I have not been playing in a few years and was new to RedGuides when I did play, so any knowledge I did have seems to have dissipated.
I store my EQ files on an external hard drive. I attempted to put the launcher on MyBook as well.
In F:\Daybreak Game Company\Installed Games\Everquest\ to be exact
I clicked the button to run the launcher when it was done installing, to which I received the following pop-up.
Restart Required
Settings have been migrated, please restart the launcher

So, I find the launcher in the eq folder and get another msg.

Restart Required
Please do not launch the exe directly, use the shortcut, this is for YOUR safety.

Let me start by apologizing for my extreme ineptitude.
I am wondering if I am a lost cause or someone might be able to lead me in the right direction and let me know what I am doing wrong.
Thank you in advance

Mq files should not be in EQ directory. They should reside in their own directory, as F:\RGVanilla\ or something similiar. If you are installing somewhere other than default for the launcher, you need to adjust the settings in launcher to point at both your EQ directory and the RG directory. Default for both lands in Users\public on your C: Drive - if files are not there, it's likely why it's having problems. In launcher, click the settings button at the bottom, and use the ... buttons to navigate to the appropriate directory for your install. And by launcher, I'm hoping you mean RG launcher, and NOT EQ launcher. EQ uses launcher.exe to start game up the normal way, which is where it is believed that most of the detection of MQ happens, which is why it should not be used.
