Guide - Obtaining The Tears of Alaris with Overseer Currency

One of the additions to the Overseer vendor in the January 2023 game update was the Fragment of Legendary Alaran History (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=100964), which can be purchased for 10,000 Overseer Tetradrachms each. These fragments are used to evolve what will eventually become The Tears of Alaris when fully evolved to level 20. While this item is quite old now, it's still useful (especially for the min/max crowd) as type 3 augment, particularly if you have any unfilled type 3 slots on your gear.

If you haven't done it yet, you'll need to start with this quest: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=5481 Don't have to do this quest. Thanks Kordaaf!

Clicking a Fragment will give you: Very Small Stone Tear (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=100106) This is the item that you will evolve. Equip it in one of the stated slots (such as charm), and click Fragments to evolve it.

Evolving from ZERO to MAX requires 262 Fragments, so 262 x 10,000 = 2,620,000 Overseer Tetradrachms for a maxed Tear. Yes it's expensive, and yes it takes a while to accumulate that much currency, but what else would you do with it? Yeah there a few useful things like rez tokens and unattuners (and now older power sources and previous expac currency if that's your thing) but it's mostly garbage.

As a side note, this quest (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=6014) can be run to obtain one Fragment each time. The quest does not have a replay timer, so it can be run ad nauseum, and can be used if you feel like it to fill any currency gaps. Using Overseer currency was attractive to me personally as I do not have the in-game time or patience to run the quest hundreds of times.

Hopefully this simple (and probably already widely known) guide helps some of you who decide to get Tears for some of your toons.

It is so much faster to just run the quest than to try and build up 2.6m currency. Back when I did it, before I switched computers, I wrote a quick and dirty macro that processed the entire quest.

you actually don't need to do the quest to get the very small stone tear, as soon as you click 1 fragment you get the tear

I hear you, and absolutely true. I wrote this primarily for those who may want to use the new currency option instead. I had 2.5 million currency on a toon just from doing collection Overseer rewards over many months. I'd imagine there are probably others who've accumulated a lot of currency over time. Choices are good. Cheers!

/mac fragmentfarm and start streaming. Do that for a few hours, for a couple of days and you'll have it. Note: if you're not an invis casting class either get a bunch of clody potions in pok....OR get an invis clicky

Get a couple of mages to CoTH back n forth and it can go really quick

2.6mil Tetra is a fuckton, like you need 130,000 for a Rez stick. Rez stick worth 20x whatever non zero value u ascribe to the tear.

I had no clue you didn't have to do the quest to start this. I've been sitting on 265 fragments for 2 years because I've been too lazy to do the starter quest LOL. Now I have the fully evolved stone after 5 minutes of clicking since it gave me the beginner stone. Yay and ty!

One other benefit of the tear, is it can equip in the Ammo slot. In that slot, it won't give any stat credit like Attack, Heal Amount, etc.
But the Defense +5% will still apply.

Therefore it's still a Top-In-Slot item at 120 in NoS if you aren't a Ranger.
