This thread is to discuss the "The Red Guide" video series, meant to get new users up & running as quickly as possible. Feedback of any type is appreciated.

Well I'm a new user and although I found the video guides helpful and informative unfortunately when push came to shove and I tried the first step, i.e. installing the very vanilla version of MQ I was slapped in the face with a "you're not level two so ____ ___". Kind of frustrating!
Anyway... I'm returning from a forced break since 2017 then I underwent brain surgery that went horribly wrong. Been back in EQ about a week, I think, and rerolled on Bristlebane for a few reasons.
1. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing on my characters on Luclin. And I do mean no idea - I didn't even recognize the Spell Gem bar, which I remembered being horizontal.
2. Luclin seems to be a ghost town.
3. I realized I needed to start over from scratch or I'd be overwhelmed.
So here I am! People are telling me I should run a couple of characters as that will open the game up a significant amount, and this seems like the lowest cost option - which is important as I'm now permanently disabled and on a very fixed income. I'm trying, but my brain is really struggling :(

If you are looking to save some cash and still run a full group you may want to consider playing on test server. Starting over is basically my EQ hobby and I've played on test exclusively for 20 years. It's free, no crowds, the community is constantly handing out high level items, and platinum is all but worthless. The bazaar has been a little sparse lately but almost everything sells for 1 platinum. All but the two most recent expansions are unlocked for free as well. The only real downside is the server is down a little more frequently and when that requires a new MQ update it can take a bit longer than live. That being said you will only need one Level 2 sub here and some of the paid plugins are free for test as well.

Anyway, welcome to party. Have fun!

Edit: Gifted you a month of level 2 to get your feet wet.

I have no choice but to save cash wherever possible, but I am also compelled by principle to do my utmost to pay my way. For that reason I have reactivated my account with Daybreak. If I successfully learn to play more than one character using MQ (and sadly that is a big if :() then I'll do my best to do the same here. Thank you again.

You can "pay your way" here, in this community by contributing with helpful posts, ideas, maybe even compose a guide or write a little story.

Anyone can do any of that and the rest of the community can respond to it with a "Red Cent". Redcents are what you "buy" the level 2 here on the forums. It takes 50 RC a month. You can also hand out Red cents to posts you think are helpful. Between posting and red centing other's posts, you can earn enough to pay for a month or so.

And, like Hadler did above when he gifted you a month of level 2, you can also give someone a month if you wanted.

And yes, I agree with Hadler you should get on test server in EQ.

There is no shame in using free services. Everyone is treated equally here and in the game. In fact, most have no idea or care if someone is paying or playing free.
