Like so many other threads, I am a returning user to EQ after many years away. I came back the end of November and at first tried to box up to 5 accounts and it is just too much. So I thought I'd finally cave in and try MQ. I downloaded very vanilla MQ last night and have been experimenting with it. I used INI files from the library.

The group I am using now is a lvl 80 warrior, 73 monk, and 73 beastlord. At the start of the fight my monk and beastlord do not engage. It is like they are spinning in circles. Eventually they will engage and fight normally, but not until well into the fight. They just spin in beginning. Any suggestions on what command I need to look at?

Many thanks,

John

Welcome To The Team GIF by MOODMAN

Welcome to RG and welcome back if you're a returning player!

Assuming the ini files you are referring to are KA files, I would look at the KA link below for the commands and see if you can determine what is causing it. It's hard to assist on this because there are several variables we do not know. Is the tank assigned as MT/MA? What % does the ini tell them to engage? Is use melee on? etc. I think if you could provide more details, some of us may be able to provide more insight.

Watch the vids in Sic's signature (I'm sure he will comment shortly if he did not already while I was typing this) and then mess around with Kissassist, RGmercs, and especially cwtn plugins. Lots of info and videos on them here and a super helpful community when you get stuck.

I suggest taking the toons somewhere safe and lower level at first to get your feet wet and explore the automation options. You can also /testcopy and use the cwtn plugins there for free.

Check out the macros and lua's available as well like buttonmaster, mq2autogroup, mq2autoaccept, mq2status, GuildClicky, and more.

This community makes the game great again.

There are some really great people on here to help you with what you are looking for. I see that you are using a Warrior, Monk, and Beastlord and I assume that these are your primary DPS and would it also be safe to assume that you are using Kissassist as your controls for your toons? I personally like the CWTN Plugins for my group and they are very well written and don't require as much tweaking as Kissassist. All of this is my opinion and not necessarily that of others that use Red Guide applications. I use EQBCS along with the CWTN Plugins which are not "Free" like the Kissassist.ini files. If they are spinning in circles and not attacking at the percentage you have them set to attack, then I am not sure that this is a problem with your Kissassist file and not some alternant glitch. If you have them set to Assist the MA / MT at a certain percentage such as 96% which is what I use, then they should assist the MT at the time the mob has reach that % of health. I prefer to use the CWTN Plugins because they are almost plugin and play right out of the box with minor changes and setup. I would watch SiC's Videos on MQ2Monk , MQ2Beastlord , MQ2War, and any other of your class toons that have CWTN Plugins available for. If you look at any post from SiC, he has links to all his videos at the bottom of all his content or posts. I hope this helps a little, but as far as your toons spinning around, I don't think that your .ini file is the cause. Sic'S Videos can be found here:

Thanks for the replies. I am using kissassist and a ini file from the source library. The tank is the main assist. The use melee is on. I'm currently looking at the melee settings and options under stickhow. I am still learning a lot (much has changed since I first played). My wife and I started EQ in March of 99 one week after launch. We are both back now and really enjoying it. I know once I work out the kinks this program will really help me enjoy the game even more.

I will look into some of the other resources people have listed here. Once I get this sorted out I will start adding casters into the mix. Right now I'm using the 80 Warrior to help power lvl the monk and beast lord.

Thanks again,

John

eq is complicated, mq by extension is that + more. make sure to give yourself time, it doesn't happen over night - can feel and get overwhelming trying to learn modern eq + mq all in one go. You'll be an expert in no time!

glad to have ya'll back <3

I'm going to hazard a guess its MeleeDistance=50

If they do not engage until the tank gets closer to them with the mob, that's likely your issue.

I'm going to try the CWTN Plugins and see how that goes.

Now your talking! I use 4 and love them. You will not be disappointed. But do watch the videos Sic put up for each class you buy as they are super helpful. Always check the faq first as well if it's doing or not doing something you think it should/should not. In fact, maybe review them anyway just to be familiar.

WORTH IT! (but if you got 5, might as well go 6!)...

Happy Pop Tv GIF by One Day At A Time

I had taken a long break, came back and EQ alone had a lot of changes, the walk throughs are nice, not everything is answered, but it's enough to be dangerous LOL... that said, I definitely found that learning and refining the INI taught me the most; experiment here, ask a question here, apply it there, seemed to teach me the most about it... I really enjoyed the older INI websites that walked me through (though I believe some are out of date or whatnot... they still were a really great place to learn a basic knowledge)

KISSASSIST

Still one of my favorites for learning and quick reference, if there's better, I am unaware... another one I liked for / macro commands was

MQ2MOVEUTILS

Just a couple nuggets that help me sort it out... and then again, asking questions of the community here @ RG has been HUGE!

Good Luck and Welcome Back!

Just wanted to give a brief update. Second night using the plugins and .....wow.....so nice and fun! I have some issues I need to sort out, but it sure is a big improvement over my manual switching back and forth boxing that I did for years.

My beastlord is casting duplicate buffs and constantly running out of mana. Yes I read the FAQ and threads....lol....I'm working on it.

Any other returning players like myself I highly recommend trying the CWTN plugins.

Are you seeing this in a specific zone or zones?

The times I have seen this, I have figured out its an issue with them unable to find a good path to the target. As an example, I thought I was going crazy at first in velks working on hunter progression, and then realized that every so often, the terrain just nopes you out of correct pathing to targets, and you spin around for a while. The most fun was the tank pulling, getting himself stuck, watching half the group die, pulling them into a spot they couldnt path out of, ressing them, then doing the same thing again in reverse.

Sounds like you are using follow instead of chase.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This!

Used to drive me crazy watching my bard spin in circles instead of engaging. Reconciling the 4 reasons why a character might be trying to move somewhere was one of those glorious moments when all the pieces of MQ came into focus.

1. In-game, traditional /follow command. Can be used independently and in addition to other methods. Very confusing!
2. MQ /afollow which I believe uses the moveutils plugin. It's important to know that /afollow works even when your automation isn't loaded!
3. MQ /chase which in KissAssist uses MQ2Nav plugin. Chase only works when automation is running. Chase and Camp are mutually exclusive!
4. MQ /camphere (return to camp) which I believe also uses MQ2Nav. Return to camp only works when automation is running.

I have buttons to explicitly enable or disable each of these modes. I routinely forget to use them and then hilarity ensues.

Def check out the Sic vids, and guides. bookmark and refer back if needed. So much good info, some of it you wont notice until a week later, and then you will be like *wait, I watched/read this*

Second, all the major combat automation programs support a /chase function. The /afollow, while it can be used with programs paused, is junk, and will have you cursing. I recommend only using that when you want to do odd stuff (jump off a cliff, alot of times, chase tries to take a path. afollow doesnt.)

i would make the mele distance like 70 . and can change usemq2mele to a 0 so its off . will prob help a ton
