I know this may seem obvious to most of you.... but the new Tradeskill ear is not very difficult if you've previously worked up your skill close to 300 AND IF you are already done with ToV Mercenary and Partisan quests.

The TIP here is to jump on the earring quests and then do the evolving while simultaneously working on collections and hunter in the ToV zones.

(Background: Each stage of the ear has to be evolved before you can request the next quest in the chain. So you can be doing the evolving while mass killing for either Hunters or Collection drops!)

Earring of Rallos Zek

Need to be done everything you can do as a group player in ToV. Type 18/19 augs are made through TS’s, as well. It’s not a short quest, but it’s worthwhile. Getting all the collects and hunter done is a pain in the dick, but outside that it’s easy.

Question:

If you're a group player that has't done any of the TBL chase items or the ToV earring, would you just start on the ToV earring? Or, would you go back and do the TBL chase loot first, then start with the earring? This is assuming you're starting with 0 tradeskills.

It’s all unrelated. I have done all the evolving up to this point I am just getting ready to start mission 7 on the earring. The earring evolves quite a bit faster than the TBL items. And all the items can be evolved in ToV zones which is a nice bonus. All the evolving items are still the best in slot items in the game. Hunter for me has been the most painful part of both with the gloves and the earring.

Sorry guess I didn’t really answer your question. So TBL fire fight is so random if you can box it with your team that’s a bonus but the drops rates are pretty low I’ve had none drop for a week and have had multiple drop in one instance. The earring you can get anytime as long as the tradeskills have been worked on. If you don’t have tradeskills I’d do firefight after each lock out and then work tradeskills in between.

@crs399 Sorry, I guess what I'm asking is.... Are the TBL items worth the effort now?

Yes absolutely. It’s a lot of work on all of them but the pieces at this point can’t be replaced even with the best raid gear in game. Lots of rewards for completing all the work to evolving the items also.

Hi crs399, sorry to revive a slightly necro thread, but I just returned to eq from a year and a bit, and I had previously gotten the TBL rares before I left, leveled them a fair bit, then promptly went insane..

So, I'm now reading about this new leveling item in ToV, this TS'ed earring, which I'm going to look into, but I was curious about your statement "all the items can be evolved in ToV zones.." ... can you clarify? The TBL evolving items will gain xp in the ToV zones? From what i read, i was under the impression it required 'fire' creatures or w/e to gain xp on them..

Cheers,
LorDeth

yup, they changed the TBL evolving items - xp from mobs in tbl and tov will increase their evolution

Which is an insane gift, since evolving gear exp is entirely based on the con of the mob. You want to be killing even cons as fast as possible to evolve the earring as quickly as possible. Yellow cons are better exp, but also generally more hp and slower to kill. Look for even con non-giants and crush it!

@LorDeth yes ToV will evolve all the items. I find Eastern waste or GD to be the fastest depending on your group make up. Mobs die fast and there are plenty of them with fast spawn times. I’ve leveled up all the evolving items at this point some multiple times for boxes.

Yes this is reminding me (sharply) of the ol' alaran tear, and if I got to doing it too late, that the mobs were all light blue or worse, and seemed to take thousands more to level the tear than if I stayed at 100 with a group down in shards and did it..

But yeah, seriously helpful to be able to use current content to level them... especially considering the lore doesn't line up.. but Im not complaining!

Event though this is an old thread. Just as an FYI you do not need to complete the FF mission to get the chase drops. They will drop off the final set of mobs before the end scene. Just leave/drop/repeat the mission if all you want are the drops.

Negative. The FF mission "loot locks" as soon as you engage the final 4. leave/drop/repeat is just spinning your wheels.

this is accurate - if you press alt-z you can see your loot lock - its possible to go in the instance after your instance lockout is up - but still have loot lockout and screw yourself.

folks used to do the "get missions, kill mobs, leave mission, rinse repeat" but there's a loot lock out now

Hmmm - I don't know if it is working as intended then - 'cuz I definitely got gloves and tabbard on back-to-back missions. Stood out as a 'woot' moment. Was only a couple months back. I have a complete set, and several pieces on alts, and have only completed the mission fully a couple of times. I could be (and probably am) wrong, but I know I got two pieces very close together.

No, they fixed flipping that mission around a year ago.... DZ loot lockout the instant you kill one of the final four

how exactly do i find out how to evolve the earrings? i seem to be daft to find where its described ...
you evolve evolving stuff by killing mobs in that content

so for rallos zek ear - tov and cov mob kills - its based on con of the mob and not on xp - so you want white con mobs if you can (tho the xp in tov appears slower than it should be).

OK, figured posting this here was more likely to get a decent answer than on the EQ forums.

Working on the 6th earring (Wrathful Harrasser's, Tactical Observations). All steps prior to the final combine are completed. All toons have 300 skill in jewelry (unmodified, no trophy on the alts, which is maybe a mistake). When I try to do the final earring combine I get the "You are too inexperienced in your craft to even consider attempting this combination." message.

Everywhere I look states the minimum for the combine is 300 - and I have that. Is it really 300, or is it something like 301 (unmodified, so have to learn some new recipes?).

According to this thread there is at least one combine requiring a 313 skill level... ToV Earring Evolving Quest | Page 10 | EverQuest Forums (daybreakgames.com)

@vandersl yeah you’re going to need to get your trophy at least to 326 to be safe

Maybe old trophy will be enough and easier to do.
Anyway, it will be a part of expert and/or master trophy tasks

Thanks for the replies. As an update, I got a Grandmaster Jeweler Eyeglass (+5% jewel making, 315 modified skill) and was able to do the combine. So required level is somewhere between 301 and 315 (with mods).

Unfortunately, was only ultimately successful on 2 of 4 toons. Lost the hardened pick on the other two so it is back to farming those marrows (a stupidly low drop rate - got one in the last 45 minutes, sigh).

To be safe i went and did the jc trophy on all 6 of my "a team" guys. 300 was to low. Took 2 days. Bought most items needed in bazaar. Had to make 2 runs into ummm.... Drunder methinks. Can't remember the name of zone. Ya drunder. With trophy maxed all 6 toons had only 1 fail combined.
Currently doing the rallos zek augs. Fun fun. Also got each toon a type 22 luck charm aug. Have Fun

you evolve evolving stuff by killing mobs in that content

so for rallos zek ear - tov and cov mob kills - its based on con of the mob and not on xp - so you want white con mobs if you can (tho the xp in tov appears slower than it should be).

So, just to confirm...killing in CoV can also level up the Rallos earring??

Cool, that makes things easier! Does it matter if your XP slider is set to AA or Normal XP, does that effect how much the earring gets at all?
nah - its just based on mob con.

having said that xp in cov for evolving stuff is mega super ultimately slow

You want to kill lots of mob v quickly. The best answer is to find someplace where headshot, assassinate and decapitate works and take along rangers, rogues and zerks. Then pull trains of live humanoid mobs and slaughter them as fast as possible. There's a spot in ry`gorr mines, on the live side, with lot of orcs that works great other than pathing issues. You will routinely pull half the zone on top of you, so have a good CC solution. But yeah, it's only affected by kill count and con color. No xp bonus, LOTD, xp pot, AA/reg split, etc. has any effect on evolving items. Nor does it matter how many evolving items you have going.

Does being in a raid reduce the XP the item will get like it does with normal XP?

No evolve xp in a raid iirc
If you form a raid using the raid window, you get no xp to evolving items. Even if you only have 6 people in the raid window, nothing. You can, however, take 6 people in a standard group and do the ToV raid instances to clear trash for augment ores and luck augs and evolve your items at the same time.

I gotta get my JC up over 300 now for my next step. I never got my trophy when leveling because I hated doing tradeskill and only did the bare minimum. That’s kicking me in the butt now. I’ve scribed all the jewelry books in PoK and it still wasn’t enough to give me the extra point.

Scribing books is helping when you are 300+

There aren’t any books you can scribe to bump your base JC up above 300. The earring requires a modified 338 JC skill. You need a 300 base skill and a 7/7 trophy to give you a 345 modified skill. Else you need a 302 base and a 6/7 trophy.

I was terrified of TS for a long time. I got some advice from @deathlock and started saving all my ToV mats about half way through ToV. Now, I’ve got maxed trophy/345 skill for all of them. Including research, tinkering, poison craft, and alchemy (for those damn power sources.

It’s really easy to do if you have the mats already in large quantities. You can find a route to 345 in almost any TS using only ToV mats.

300 Raw or 345 with maxxed Trophy I assume you are meaning. Just want to clarify, because getting to 345 raw is completely different trip down the rabbit hole.

I would appreciate some advice on getting to 300, ive only managed to get JC to 300 so far, fletching 260, tailoring 160, brewing and pottery around 200, smithing 130 ish, its destroying my will to live and I only want to do it on my tank I could not imagine doing it on all 6.
