Question - necro in box crew , worth it?

seems with everyone going for max dps per sec anymore that nercros have gone to the wayside, who uses them in box crews anymore?

i did away with mine just not enough dps compared with other classes, roll a zerk or a wiz till new favored class is chosen.

I use a necro in my main box crew, just because they are so versatile in many situations.

Heck anytime I am camping out in dangerous places, I use my necro to clear an area for the group to move in to... or log in the necro first to check where I camped last night is clear.

But then, I have been using a necro since Kunark so... =P

I just replaced my necro for wizard in my box crew, it was annoying to put the necro aside since he's been alt #1 for a long time. Wizard dps is faster and ports are a huge convenience for moving a boxed crew.

Necro is literally the only class I've never used. Honestly, with the power that other classes bring to the mix and the relatively fast fights of today's game, I don't think they measure up.

I guess maybe they might be okay if you're pulling with them, but even then... meh. Zerk/wiz are the perennial favorites, but I also really like my beastlord and ranger. Very good dps and great a-dps.

I used a necro when i was 3boxing sk,shm, necro and the necro was pretty good since they can keep themselves full mana while stacking their dot lineup. If you have a 6 box team the necro loses all of its shine since most things die before dots get time to start ticking. 2 bzr or 2 wizards is the way to go if your wanting to add dps to your 6 box crew!

What about if you, like many others, don't have a necro and you want to level, AA, and gear one up. What group would they be most useful in?

I guess I'd build a group based on surviving longer/harder encounters? The rationale is to make the most out of the DOTs, which need time to be fully effective/worthwhile. War/Clr/Bard/Shm/Nec/OPEN. Killing would start slow then ramp up as the DOTs are applied. For a sixth spot, I'd be careful adding DPS... you'd almost want to put an off-tank there, cause adding a dedicated DPS in slot 6 would start to encroach on the Necro's performance.

Not a group optimized for speed, but hey... could be fun to play? Necros are a blast, and if you do form a box group around one I'd recommend a Bard being in the mix. Duo Bard/Necro is a really fun combo.

As discussed above, really no reason to run one in a 6-box group unless they are your main or you're using them to pull. They'd do best in a smaller group where the mobs will live long enough to be worth DoT'n. Also a camp where the mobs have a lot of health, like a giant's fort in EoK.

Doingbigthings has a nice setup, with Tank/Sham/Necro. Both the Sham and Necro have excellent dots and minimal downtime for med breaks with health conversions. Mobs should last long enough for the shorter duration dots (2-5 ticks) to be worth castings. Plus on named you can crank out the long dots that have secondary auto-casts if they run their full duration.

Otherwise, they are great at soloing if you wanted to run a kite macro on non-summon mobs.

Go full dots and see what happens! For that, I think I'd try:

SK (tank, dot)
Bard (cc, dot, dot focus)
Sham (heals, dots, slow)
Necro (DOT DOT DOT and all the other stuff they do)
Druid (do they still get decent DoTs??)
Open??

....... maybe another Necro? or a Pally (just for the fun of it... rezes and stuff?)? Or Beastlord? They get dots and can off-tank, if necessary (or the pet can offtank)

Pretty sure there are necro bots running around my server soloing/moloing trash non-stop in FM and SW. Not really great in a group, but no other class is as self-sufficient on their own.

Yah, haha, I've seen those bots running around the zone perimeter. I know one of those bots is doing multiple zones, moving from 1 zone to the next. Pretty funny cause their custom path is always along the zone perimeter.

I would never use a necro in group as dots just don't have enough time to work before the mobs are dead. Mana usage to dmg done ratio would be shit. Stick with wizards, mages and enchanters for dmg dealing. Enchanter would probably be the best dotter (without using actual dot spells), as charmed pets are basically dots or even any pet for that matter. Enchanter will probably out dps a wizard if using a charmed pet.

This is (well, at least last time I was in game) happening on my server, as well. There were two or three nercros running around soloing trash. They'd get spanked by a named once in a while (usually the named Ore Miner guy or the invisible named in FM) and leave a corpse for a day or two, but eventually they'd be back.

They've recorded a path along the border of the zone, and since the Ore Miner, bear namer and Flintikki spawn close to the border of the zone, probably getting wiped from any of those named.
