My lvl 65 warrior using default settings for EQ continually does target clear, and I don't know why. as I'm really new at using this, I suspect the problem lies with me.

the tank works just fine when he isn't in a raid, it only has issues when being the raid tank.

found it, under config->combat->assisting->self assist fallback change to always

We dont self-fallback in raids by default to avoid having dudes go rogue in a raid and ruining things, that is correct.
You should always be assigning an MA for every character... whether that is through assigning a group/raid MA in game or using the assist list, it is no different.
I also prefer to keep my MA on his own assist list because I also keep other tanks there and at times move tanks up and down the list.

A guide to our assist system can be found here:

I'm realizing that rgmercs is great at following a leader, but not so great at driving itself. I'm trying to write a script that will kill all of the flagging bosses for plane of power, and realizing I love rgmercs to run my dps, but my tanks are going to have to have a little more direction. as well as I want to have some of my clerics do a CH chain, and I need to give them some direction.

Driving itself is actually a major strongsuit of mercs, I'm not sure how you mean.
We do not support CH chains, however, and do not plan to. There are existing resources that will do that.
Edit: Staggering which HP% each cleric will use CH can somewhat mimic, depending on how tight your timings need to be.

so far, for my MA, I would love a way to order which npc for this zone to target first, as well as a blacklist so I can assure that some NPCs never get attacked.

for my tank, I'm wondering about a way to indicate that a tank should be an off tank. I have 6 tanks in my raid setup, and when fighting a mob I want the tanks to target anyone who is within a radius of the boss, and not fighting a tank.

not sure if this behavior is possible, but I know I can script it for each raid boss. using my tank as a driver, i wrote a 16 line macro that does the hedge maze. all it does is follow thelin, and kills any one who isn't thelin that is within 100 units of my tank.

External scripting is the way to handle most specifics like this.
Bear in mind we have support for temp settings, so your scripts can change things on the fly without changing your standard play options.

This is combat automation... not raid zone completion automation.

The pull module, however, can mimic some of the behavior you are asking for, I encourage you to explore it. I often use it to select targets or clear to them when I feel scripting isn't worth the time.

Who is assisting what MA is entirely within your purview and control.
You can issue force target commands to tanks as you choose, which can also be accomplished by scripting.
You can also disable autotargeting entirely as needed to have more control of a tank.

Coincidentally, I am working up some options for our target selection priority that may help, but I am not sure I will be pursuing ignoring certain mobs per se. It is an interesting concept however, and I'll chew on it.
