Simple plugin to keep the upgrade to gold window closed. They used the generic AlertWnd so I did a check for the word upgrade on the button. Not sure if the Alert window is used for anything else and didn't want to arbitrarily close it. Tested on a few accounts. Any issues let me know.

Now also closes the initial Welcome to EverQuest window when logging in.

Edit: Now also keeps browser from launching on exit

DLL attached

Browswer ad window blues!

Love it, but can someone help me figure out how to block EQ from opening a browser window or new tab when I log the FTP toons out? I have firefox and chrome and neither one seems to have any settings for the adblock and noscript etc. plugins that will allow me to block any kind of page popping up like that. I even added the website address into untrusted, blocked, filter list for adblock and all kinds of other things that I was hoping would stop the page from being displayed. Unfortunately I'm not smart enough anymore to fix this, I used to have a program that ran in the task bar in windows that blocked any window I didn't open myself etc. it was the best ad blocker ever but it went out of date and none of the browser pop up blockers seem to do the trick. Or I can't find one that does. Let me know what you use, if anything to block these kind of pop-ups. I hate them for all this BS advertizing they shove in our faces now. Welcome screen, in game pop-ups, and now this! It's bad enough we get hounded every time we log in to upgrade to the latest expansion still on accounts that don't have the very best latest greatest everything! /pulling hair out

Re: MQ2NoUpgrade

I've been working on this but I haven't been able to find a solution yet. I've been just closing the window at the 5 second camp mark until I can find a way to block it. I know it can be done, I've disassembled eqgame.exe and found the text for the urls it's just a matter of finding a way to disable the call. It's doing an open url system call when the character exits so it's happening before firefox or chrome have a change to block it.

MQ2NoNagWindows- This plugin is a must, especially for free to play accounts.

Automatically closes:

  • The Welcome Screen
  • The Tome of Hero's Journey Reminder
  • The Upgrade to Gold Account Reminder on Free to Play
  • And prevents Upgrade to Gold web browser window launch after camping.

Commands
Rich (BB code):
/nonag blockhero on|off :: Toggle blocking of the Hero's Journey Window. Default *ON*

MQ2NoNagWindows is crashing AMD display drivers. Even on gold accounts with no nag windows anyways. Unloading it across all accounts instantly stops the crashes. Don't actually need it myself, was only loaded because you load it by default but figured I'd report it for others.

Is it only crashing you when you /unload OR
is it crashing you when you try to log in with it loaded?

It crashes video drivers (recoverable every time) sitting idle in guildhall. Doesn't seem to do it on a laptop with nvidia 1060 (Only running one account on that machine though) but does it on both devices with a RX480 (Six accounts each). It also crashes about 30% of the time you hover something with a tooltip while it's loaded like it might be trying to kill off things it shouldn't sometimes. It does it with only core and that plugin loaded as well, so don't think it's any sort of conflict. Will also do it while running around. Unload that one plugin and it all stops.

Alright. Scratch that. I haven't crashed in two hours after unloading it but just crashed again. So will continue unloading stuff til I figure it out.

Just wanted to post an update on this. NoNagWindows just happened to be running through at the time. It actually turned out to be a kernel bug with Microsoft Storage Spaces (Raid1) causing a majority of it. Had to get MQ and EQ both off the raid array.

This plugin is removed due to DBG being clearly unhappy with its use, putting it on the same level of scanning as active hacks.

Bah, seriously? Isn’t it akin to closing the window?

For whatever reason, it's on their scan list. They do not like it.

Also, the same functionality could be written into a macro.

Don’t they already know we’re all using? Or is the scan specifically for the naughty active hacks that apparently this is now roped together with?

I understand where DBG is coming from. This is thier means of advertising and trying to get more subscriptions. I can't blame them for not liking this. /shrug Not a game breaker and heck, maybe the new people here that do not even know it is at work, will be tempted to buy subscriptions. :eq1:toot:

yes if you attach a debugger to EverQuest, near the top will show it looking for certin dll by name like mq2cast, mq2mmowarp, and about a handful of other plugins they actively scan for

I was wondering what had happened to this plugin after coming back from a short break.

Pity, they take such a harsh stance on it but like someone said, not a deal breaker. There's other ways of closing windows.

Isn’t mq2cast used in a lot of macros/plugins?

Daybreak doesn't like anything that interferes with its advertising.
We kind of silently agreed to discontinue this plugin based on the relationship between Daybreak and the MQ2 community.
Its a minor a inconvenience but the goodwill goes a long way.

I really miss this plugin. It seems they've doubled or tripled how often they cover up your screen with this clutter. And it also seems that perhaps the silent agreement was rendered inoperable after Holly left.

MMOBugs still maintains and distributes this, though they renamed it since it was added to the dll check list. RG tries to stay away from anything that DPG specifically checks for, and away from "active hacks" in an effort to be as safe as possible while still allowing people to cheat. Cheat responsibly.

you can always find the window name and use the zoned.cfg file to close it when it loads using an if statement :)

Thank you! You motivated me enough to find a solution. I added a React to accomplish this. I won't post it here so I don't get into trouble with Red Guides, but anyone who wants can PM me and I'll give you the MQ2React code I'm using.
