Problem - MQ2 Causing Everquest to Freezes for .5 second intervals

Hello everyone,

I am having a problem with mq2 that wasn't there 5 or 6 months ago when I was using red guides. I use to run 7 boxes using 5 CWTN class plugins, mq2eskay, mq2bst, mq2berzerker, mq2rogue, and mq2cleric, and I freakin loves these plugins. 5 or 6 months ago i never had a problem running them or mq2. About 2 months ago i stopped using red guides and mq2 and started playing only one account on everquest on aradune server, just to take a break and do something different. I'm back now and I'm having this reoccurring problem of the gaming stuttering and freezing for brief intervals. It is making the game completely unplayable. I'm only running 6 boxes this time with the same class plugins. I have narrowed the problem down to mq2 because when i do a /bcaa //unload, the problem goes away shortly after executing the command. Before I discovered this, I resetted my pc, uninstalled everquest and red guides, then reinstalled. I updated all my drivers, tried to do a clean boot thing, and nothing seemed to work. Unloading mq2 was the very last thing i tried because i was really hoping that wasn't the problem. However, I know my computer can run 6 accounts and mq2 on it because it was doing it months back. I'm not sure what happened in the time between then and now. I didn't uninstall red guides when i took my break, i just left it alone.

I am using a ssd drive, i have 32 gb of ram, so i know my computer should be able to handle 6 accounts running. I'm not sure what is causing the lag. If anyone has any suggestions or needs more info please let me know, I would really appreciate it. I'm not sure if someone has gone through a similar situation. I was looking through a windows application (that i can no longer remember what it is) recently, and I saw a bunch of error entries (57,000) that were mostly mq2, I wish i could remember what file this was so i could delete all those entries, that could be what's slowing down mq2. Until then, I think if it starts to stutter i will do a /bcaa //unload, then reload mq2, this seems to fix it for a bit.

Double check you don't have mq2log loaded

/plugin mq2log unload

This can cause the issue you mention

I also recommend turning off eq logs unless you need them /bcaa //log off

If you haven't already done so, I would also recommend ensuring you have all entries of cpuaffinity in your eqclient.ini set to -1
For 7 toons this would be cpuaffinity0 - cpuaffinity6

Mq2eqwire is also worth looking into (but not a substitution for eqclient adjustment and turning off logs and mq2log.

Hello,

thank you guys for responding. I have mq2log unload and eglog turned off, and the cpu affinity i will do that now.

These are the plugins I have loaded currently. I just turned on mq2fps after reading some posts, so we will see how that goes. Also, I'm going to check out that wiki post.

mq2fps is not used as much these days - did you just turn that on to try and fix your issue, or has that always been on?

since you already have mq2eqwire there, i wouldn't have fps on also

since you have eqwire you wont need mq2fps, and i would try and not had dpsadv loaded permanently on all toons, only load it temp say on your tank or something, and another thing that i had problems with that gave a similar issue, was mq2targetinfo.

so my suggestion is try andunload those 3 and then if you need targetinfo dpsadv, only load it on your driving toon.

I have tried to unload all 3 of those plugins but i still have really bad stutters in my game. I noticed in the windows program "event viewer" there are constantly being errors adds to it from mq2eqbcs. Like an error is being added every second. the error says this:

MQ2EQBCS error: 6

SetServiceStatus

The only thing that seems to fix this is unloading mq2 altogether then reloading it, but this is only a temporary fix because the stuttering comes back.

Also, I've tried unload different plugins to see if that would work, and I eventually got to the point of having all plugins unload, but only when i unloaded mq2 altogether did the stuttering/freezes stop.

Which version of eqbcs are you using? Try a different one. I used to get that kind of hang when I used eqbcs but only after a couple of hours of play. I've since started to use the eqmule version and had no issues since.

similar to vsab, i use eqbcs2 because i would get noticeable delays and lack of response using eqbcs

I am using version 16.601 of mq2ebc. How do I use eqbc2? do I download mq2mule and then unload mq2eqbc?
eqbcs-mule and eqcs2 are both options from the VV launcher, as well as just exe files in your release folder

Yup..your rig is awesome...that's the dark side of the force balancing your universe right there.

ahh I see. I did the drop down and switched to mq2eqbc2, but in game the mq2 window shows that i am still using mq2eqbc. will it do this or do i have to log out every1 than log back in?

Sorry for all the questions i really appreciate the help, this issue is driving me nuts lol

Actually, now when i load mq2eqbc2 it says waiting for connections on ports: 2112....

and my toons arent connected. Im not sure where to find commands for mq2eqbc2

mq2eqbc just connects to the eqbcs/eqbcs2/eqbcs-mule server

you will want to disconnect everyone and then reconnect everyone to the eqbcs2/eqbcsmule server --- you connect the same way you would normally - but you wouldn't want the eqbcs (server) running also

mq2eqbc is the plugin, all the commands are the same

try a /bccmd reconnect

and if that doesn't work

then /bccmd connect 127.0.0.1

The stutters/freezes are still happening unfortunately. I unload mq2 from every1 then reload it and it goes away for a bit. this is the only fix i can think of atm. I did a lot before this tho. I went to device manager in windows and went through everything one by one right clicked update driver. I know it has something to do with mq2 but my computer use to run it just fine without these stutters. Im at a lost.

Guys, when you tell someone to begin using eqbcs2 you need to tell them how to ensure eqbcs isn't still running as a service at startup! Otherwise you have 2 competing programs trying to watch the same port!

I moved away from eqbs and run dannet it fixed a lot of the eqbs errors i was getting and i hang a lot less

I feel like it is a memory cache gets too big or something because I can unload then reload mq2 and it runs fine for about 2 hours. Then the screen freezes start to happen so much its really frustrating.

would unloading mq2eqbc remove the problem of stuttering, hang ups, mini freezes, etc.? I tried this but it didnt work, so i was wondering if maybe i had to just not use from the beggining? I tried dan net and that will take some time to learn lol.

I think i found out the problem. It seems to be the plugin mq2cwtnbuffs, because when i unloaded the plugin the stutters went away. This really sucks cause I use 5 cwtn plugins lol. Is there anyway I can update the plugin?

Do you have the MQ2 directory on a networked location, in a "syncing" type system like dropbox/onedrive/googledrive that would require the files are synced to multiple computers, while using MQ2 on multiple computers?

Sounds like two things are trying to access the same thing on a networked location.

The plugin writes to and read to a locale file repeatedly. If the file is in the process of syncing, it can cause some issues. If you're using it on multiple computers and it's trying to access the synced file, the file could be getting downloaded, uploaded, access by another computer etc which causes the issue. You cannot use it over a network like that.

And also before coming back to red guides, i started using a laptop beside my main pc and was going to try to keep using the laptop, but i ran into the snag because my toons using cwtn plugins wouldnt buff the toon on the laptop, but my dumbass had already connected their ip addresses trying to set them up, im sure it could of been that along with one drive syncing on both comptures that created this mess. Im going to disconnect my laptop from the internet for now and disable one drive on my main pc, hopefully that will fix the trouble. LOL the link that CWTN gave is a perfect description of my problem. buff over multiple networks, but i had already connected their ip addresses by then, so im sure that had something to do with it.

Could mq2cwtnbuffs be reading accounts i no longer have access to? I have resetted my entire comp, and I created a new microsoft account so that it would be starting from fresh. I'm not sure why this one plugin keeps causing this chop.

Guantlet3200, well done on tracking down the trigger of your lag problem. There is always something satisfying when there has been an issue, and finding a root cause to it.
What I also find good, is no sooner is the chat plugin called out, the man himself responds minutes later with a diagnosis as to why it could be trouble, which you confirmed the case.

Great stuff all round, well done.
