I've been using RGs for more than a year now.. I am a coder and I am having SO MUCH fun learning about this software. There have been a lot of times I can't figure something out, but when I do.. it is so much fun to turn the corner and figure the next thing out.

Recently I was trying to figure out why some of my Toons (I copies INI Files from the Red Guides repository) were VERY vocal in the MQ Window about healing, while other toons said nothing. My Shaman and My Cleric had different prefixes on their notifications..

What File determines this? What section? Both of these are from a 3rd toon reading their MQ window. I'm trying to unify all the other toons in the group, but I cant figure out where it is coming from!

Thanks!
-Warl

Mod edit: please don't post toon names. That is a giant "please ban my toons dbg"

that would be the DanNetOn=0 setting, that allows kiss to use dannet to speak and get information from toons on your dannet, swtich that on, and you should see similar behaviour, however some toons are not as vocal as others.

100% - Thank you!

Looks like Yellow is EQBC and light blue is DanNet for the most part.. I am running a Mixed bag.

One had EQBCOn and one had DanNetOn. Once I made them the same, they reacted the same! I have been concentrating on EQBC to start with, and was going to move to DanNet 'eventually'. Guess that will be happening sooner rather than later.

Thank you Very much!

EQBCOn=1
DanNetOn=0

FFS.. I spent the last solid week familiarizing myself with EQBC commands and making myself comfortable. Now I'm translating everything to DanNet! LOL - like I said, I love learning more about this software.. but seriously!

Honestly I'm glad I did learn about the deprecated way.

Oh Noes!!! DanNet is awesome.. but I didn't realize it is primarily for 'local' networks. :( My GF can't connect from her house.

"MQ2DanNet and EQBC are tools for EverQuest multi-boxing, allowing communication between different game clients, but they function differently in how they handle network setups. DanNet is designed for local networks and is often preferred for its ease of setup and flexibility, while EQBC can handle more complex network topologies, including those spanning subnets"

Guess I'm switching everything back to EQBC. TIL!

Same reason I still use EQBC.

I guess after looking at both.. is there a reason not to unify commands between the two? Or, if not unified, make it so EQBC doesn't need the extra / Slash. And the commands could be consolidated but with a starting "D" or "B" to determine which communication tool they use. Obviously just thoughts, and I'm sure I'm not the first one to mention it.

EQBC is a rather old program. There are efforts being made to replace both dannet and EQBC. Dannuic has been working on a mailbox system that communicates locally, and eventually on at least the local network. I'm unsure about the ability to communicate outside of the network (across town to your girlfriends, or across the world to you friends).

I use both occasionally to issue separate commands to separate machines.

MY main pc is Linux so dannet behaves a little oddly since I believe it uses the local Windows network (also self compiled EQBC running as a daemon process is incredibly stable), but there's good reason that they're separate from each other... It'd be awesome if we could connect to multiple eqbc servers at the same time but that's not possible AFAIK (and could lead to odd security issues/very weird character bugs).

Also, you can connect outside applications to eqbc (EQBCI was a neat project) which can be pretty nifty.
There is also a logging feature in the EQBCS application that can be incredibly useful for debugging.

There is a way to use DanNet over the internet. You have to setup a tool like ZeroTier that allows you to create a LAN over the internet. I group up with friends and play using DanNet.
