IRL - MacroQuest release party! (1 Viewer)

RedGuides is proud to announce the official release of MacroQuest, which we're now using as the base for Very Vanilla.

Instructions on downloading the new MacroQuest are here, and migration to the new MQ is discussed here.

A few years ago, the most experienced developers in our community got together over a shared realization that MacroQuest2 needed help. It was a codebase that had been spliced together by people of different skill levels and competing visions since 2003, and any serious attempt at modernization would require a near complete rewrite. However, they were bound by thousands of user macros and plugins that needed backwards compatibility, and on top of that, they didn't have access to the full source code. A large and tedious portion of the job would be figuring out what was missing.

After three years of daily commits and a few painful slogs with tech behind the scenes, brainiac, Knightly, dannuic, alynel and exspes have given us MacroQuest: a modern scripting platform that's light, fast, and easy to maintain. You may not notice any changes initially, except that everything runs smoother and more stable. However if you look a bit deeper you may notice a few benefits, such as...

All the ini, yaml, and cfg files for every piece of software on RedGuides are now in the same place: the "config" folder.

But you won't be visiting that folder very often, as you can now change settings in the GUI: /mqsettings

We've also been granted a proper console, like most games released this millennium: ctrl + `

Sic outlines these, and many other new features in his MQ video here,

RedGuides staff urges you to switch over now by grabbing the latest launcher, which ChatWithThisName outlines below.

Developers will notice the biggest changes: professional quality code, manageable third party libraries, Lua scripts, and many more as Knightly summarized here.

And if you're the type that enjoys looking under the hood, you'll be happy to know that MacroQuest is once again a free and open source project. For the first time in seven years I have access to our source code, and you do as well. My most exciting years running RedGuides were back in the open source days and I'm eager to get back! 🙌

If this were a corporate project in Silicon Valley, it would have cost in the high six to seven figures. When I asked brainiac about his motivation to spearhead this purely as a hobby, he said his greatest desire was to see everyone use the platform as a sandbox, to experience all the unique things people create like MAUI and Lootly. So the best way to pay the dev team back is to open up Visual Studio and unleash your creativity.

Congratulations to the MacroQuest dev & test team: brainiac, Knightly, dannuic, and everyone who helped and tested over the years.

And congratulations to the entire EverQuest playerbase, as you're about to experience a software renaissance.

Late to the party as usual but have been using for awhile and all those involved have done a great job on this. This will only get better as time goes on. Someday I hope to contribute more then I currently do.

I just wanted to say thank you.

It means the world to be able to play.

There came a time when I had to retire my account -- I just couldn't do anything anymore, couldn't level up enough to play the new content, didn't have anyone to play with, the limited hours, the limited time... by the time I could get a group through lfg or the like (much less could get to the zone involved or the rest) -- I had to log off. I tried doing a second account myself, a cleric to keep myself alive, and that worked for a little while but eventually I hit a wall.

MacroQuest is the reason I can play. I log in and I have a group ready to play and I can see the content, explore the world, and when someone logs in and needs a group - I can HELP them, I can be there for them, I can help them see the quests and adventures and monsters and missions and we fight dragons together.

I couldn't do that with out you all. I would be logging in, hoping for a lucky strike of a good night with a group, and maybe getting one or two good nights a month - if at all. I would have never kept playing without MQ.

A couple nights a week I get to explore and face challenges and fight dragons and explore dungeons and help people, good people who need escape these days more than ever.

And it's because of you guys. EQ is a hell of a game, been playing 22 years, but without MQ to help fill the gaps (of all the missing players, of all the little problems, of the time requirements) it's not playable.

EQ isn't fun or playable without help - it was always designed to require help -- so thank goodness you guys are helping all of us.

Thank you.

I enjoy the new interface, but my only questions is.... Is mule assist no longer supported? I do not see an option to load the plugin and none of the functions work anymore.

Downloaded onto my second "messing around" computer, I didn't intend to but it did it anyway? Fairly seamless and after a couple of days researching on here it all seems to be working pretty good! Currently running a new FTP group on it until I am confident I have got the hang of it before switching on my mains!

I have helped 9 people come over to the new new, its good stuff. less resource use, more support.. and all open sources (or so ive gathered). 10/10 recommend it to you and your friends.

So i can install next with the launcher using settings to choose were. If i have a problem using it will i still be able to use the legacy version till i figure it out.

yes, however, legacy will go away.

It is OFFICIAL! MacroQuest is the version of MacroQuest that we offer here at RedGuides.

You will see this with "MacroQuest - Live" in the RG Launcher.

Please, check out this link: >>> Functions & Features Demo + Migration to the new MacroQuest<<<

There are a couple of small, yet important changes with MacroQuest:
1. mq2map click is Control+Shift+Click
2. new easyfind self travel is Control+Click (reminder in find window title bar)
3. new easyfind group travel is Control+Shift+Click
4. If you selected a destination in your zone guide and want to activate it you /travelto activate
5. /yes and /no are now aliases
6. your ini configuation files (like for kissassist) now reside in your "Config" folder and not your "Macro" folder

It is amazing at all the progress here and on MQ, who woulda thought still be going this strong all this time later! IMGui!?! Ooooh that almost makes me wet my adult diapers.. so good! Now there's a custom client being worked on too.. whewt! That's gonna be interesting, we might finally start getting some really awesome custom world content and models for emu before too long... So nice to see so much passion and love for EQ. Thanks and good job!
