Hi,

So my TLP guild collapsed and thinking of rolling on live. Never played on live before but there is a guild waiting for me.
I normally duo. Completely bored of SK / Shaman as I have been playing that for years.

If I was to duo again any interesting combos that work well with MQ2 for my box? I was thinking of an enchanter or ranger in the mix as the new guild is short on them (even both).
I would like to be able to do my own stuff from time to time but everyone tells me tank mercs suck as well. So completely indecisive about what to do.

Thoughts?

Eventually, you will wind up making a 6-box group. SK/cleric or shaman is a solid duo with a couple of DPS mercs thrown in. If it was me and I was starting over, I would start with a 3-box group and add more as I got more comfortable using MQ. With 3, you can fill a group using mercs

enchanter and ranger will work super well for a duo running around doing things, the chanter pet can easily tank most things in a non instanced group setting even named with a bit of planning, and the ranger is just gonna run around shooting shit, ive seen this combo work super well on live.

You'll want a group with a Tank (Shd, Pal, War), a healer (shaman, cleric, druid I think is the 3rd one), and a crowd control (enchanter bard).
Which Tank and healer? Your choice. THey all work. Some of the general pairings you'll find if you search the boards enough are shd/shaman, war/cleric, and I'm not sure about the paladin. There are some that say Shd/cleric works well. Its your choice.
Bard or enchanter? Bards are usually paired with melee dps. Enchanter usually with caster dps. Me, I'll always use the bard. At 110 they get an AA that casts invis and IVU so everyone in the party has both. I've grown to used to it to think about moving to enchanter.
The other 3 spots. If you only want to 3box, then use dps mercs. Caster or stabby your choice. Again. But, if you start using the automations, then its just as easy to 6box once you get used to the automation you are using.

Generally speaking, play what makes you happy. If your Shd/Sham are boring you, sounds like its time for one of the other tanks and maybe a different healer. Its all about the journey and having some fun.
Another tidbit I here on these boards is, these automations are not appreciated by Darkpaw. So, use at your own risk. Don't afk hunt and don't get attached to your characters/accounts. When the ban stick swings, its usually for the fence.

Mage or Bst for tank, Druid for the match. Mage tank will generally be better, bst has all the buffs and slow. Druid to round out buffs, ports, etc. Great combo choices.

Back in yester-century, I ran a BRD, SHM duo that was a blast. Very slow even with all the right gear, but fun and safe. With mercs being an option, you can run your duo with a couple of ROG mercs to really speed things along, or you can run a CLR merc and a ROG merc and use your SHM for dps.
If you're just not wanting another SHM, then a close variation to this is a BRD, DRU duo.
However, if you choose to do this particular combo, getting the BRD epic as early as you can is critical, as is gear that has instrument/voice resonance in order to significantly increase your song damage or effects.

PAL/NEC
Both can rez. Both yeet undead. Good paladins are rare, so you'll stand out. Plus you're your own healer (and occasionally the group's only healer).

Idk if I'd ever box without a tank. Tank mercs are weak and pets can't keep aggro if you're trying to play your characters at (or remotely close) to their full potential.

If you're sick of sk paladin is a good choice. With warrior you're super dependent on your healer so you'd either need a cleric or shaman (druid+warrior combo isn't great)

Hi
I know you want to duo, but with mq2 you can also try bigger group to make it even easier to do content you may not do easily with 2..
I have tried many different groups. my latest group is so much fun and seems to just destroy mobs, i use SK, War, Rog, Rog, Bard, Shaman. I know having 2 tanks seems odd, but the warrior and sk are so much dps and it is nice having backup tank. Of course you can replace rog with another dps, but they are so good and easy to use, also nice using the same ini. Hope that helps.

Given your constraints I would go with kaens suggestion, or something like enc/mag, RNG/bst, or PAL/anything.

It depends on so many things, but if you're willing to equip your animation (and this applies to all pets) with level-appropriate defiant armors until the point where mage summoned sets surpass them, then you'd be surprised at how tanky Mr. Sparklepants can be.

Charm rando mob_XX and you have a pet in ToB with like 75m HP's.. chanters dont use summon animation, they charm (either a tank mob or a DPS) and use that..

I’d charm a @durango773 undead pet…then send it to kill a raid lvl dragon and watch it die…again…just for funsies

There is no comparison. Bst and mage pets can tank and off tank 2-3 mobs at a time. They have far more abilities and buffs provided to them. Yes enchanter's pets are serviceable up to a point, but that's about it.

Yep. No question. I was simply pointing out that any pet can benefit a great deal from equipping them with defiant at lower levels until the summoned sets offer more AC, HPs, and saves. Not trying to suggest an ENC animation is a substitute for a tank. The context was in reference to the post about a RNG, ENC duo.

Just get started on the 6 box group....make the classes you always wanted to try. You wont regret it....if you want to invite guildies in feel free to give one of those alts a break
