Hi all,

Returning to EQ in 2026 after being on hiatus since PoP, with essentially zero computer programming experience. I dipped into alt-tab boxing and found it's a blast. Using DanNet to broadcast commands from one box to the others opened the door and now I'm trying to get a kissassist ini file to work on my shaman account. I filtered for "Shaman, 60, group" in the library and grabbed the one on the top of the list, linked here - shout out to the author. I went down a google rabbit hole and edited it to fit the spells I have and what I want, and to cut the things I don't have, like spear of fate or a SGSE clicky. Almost everything works. My Shaman assists my SK to target the mob, the pet attacks, she heals appropriate, she cannibalizes based on the condition I set up. She rebuffs appropriately. But the DPS section never activates. No malo, no slow, no DoTs. I can do that stuff with a /dex command, but I feel like I'm close to getting it to work and don't want to quit.

Can anyone point me to a reference or resource with relatively basic starter info? Or if anyone's feelin' extra squirely, I'll cut and paste the ini file I have below so people can take a look.

Thanks!

I moved your kiss question to the kiss support section and put your ini in code blocks

I'd start with changing dpson=1 to dpson=2

Your spirit of bih`li has an apostrophe instead of a backtick

first of, change these values to what i am listing

MedCombat=0 we want him to not lock down to medding during combat,
DPSMeter=0 this dpsmeter is broken
LootOn=0 we dont wnaat this loot tool, its broken

UseMQ2Melee=0
DPSOn=2
DebuffAllOn=0

then this, this allwos it to load the settings in the ini file
LoadSpellSet=2

we dont want him to interupt his castings because that is bit wonky, and we dont need the checkstuckgem no more, that issue was fixed and using it now can cause other issues
CastingInterruptOn=0
CheckStuckGem=0

Buffs1=Cannibalize IV|mana|60|40

you dont need the cond check on this one, the settings mean he will cannibalize if he is below 60% mana and above 40% health, so no need for a condition to check that too

Thanks for the prompt answers! Code blocks - check. Will do in the future. Also, I clocked the redundant parameter on the cannibalize but it was working so I left it alone for now.

I’ll make these changes next time I get a chance to play and hope for the best.

All the things Kaen01 suggested to change are good changes. However, I don't think that any of those should stop your shaman from doing the dps section. You don't mention if you have your shaman set up to be using /chase mode on your tank, or if you are set up with them in a camp using /makecamphere or /camphere. If you are using a camp, you do have your camp radius set pretty small (30), and you don't have Return to Camp set to 1. I believe I have seen my characters not engage properly if the mob I'm fighting is outside of the camp radius and/or if the character has moved/been knocked outside the camp radius and not then returned back to camp. So if using a camp you might want to set ReturnToCamp to 1. Also, I think it's generally a good idea to sync up all the engage ranges...like CampRadius, MeleeDistance, and PetAttackDistance.

If none those changes help, you'd probably need to enable debug output to see what the shaman is doing or what tests seem to be failing causing the dps section to not do anything.

dpson=1 can and absolutely give you less than desired behavior (which is why i also suggested changing it)
debuffallon can as well

I mean, I didn't say to not change it. As somebody who has mistakenly used dpson = 1 and intentionally using debuffallon, I have not personally encountered those settings to make my charcters not do any of my dps sections. From my experience, the majority of times my characters are not engaging mobs/doing their dps sections, it's been related to the position of the mob relative to camp size and/or the characters distance from camp. So I'm just merely attempting to point those things out as also potentially being an issue.

i was responding to the idea that they wouldnt' stop the dps section from firing as expected, because in my experience (of use years ago, as well as the probably hundreds of folks i've helped) those two things in particular have definitely been contributors to dps not firing as expected. that's not to say those *are* the reason, or the *only* reason, but that is my point - that you can add additional things to check, which is good, and the whole point of communal support.

the |debuffall flag can do this as well, but i didn't see that as a flag in any of the dps conditions - this one is a frequent-flier for causing issues.

also regarding "sync up all the engages" - the kiss wiki says specifically that campradius should always be less than your meleedistance

After reviewing my .ini files, I was misremembering my past issue. When I said sync up the engages, what I should have been saying was sync them up between toons. I believe several of my issues were having a tank that had a value for MeleeDistance that was > than my dps characters causing the tank to end up engaging the mob farther away from camp than the dps could engage. I would not notice this issue in /chase mode which I used significantly more than camps. So sync isn't really the correct term at all. You just want/need to be aware of the values of those settings not on just 1 character, but on all the characters in the group as different values could cause issues.

i believe the main issue was the medcombat=1

this tells the toon to med to full even in combat and do nothing, i think only clerics will still heal, everyone else will just sit on their hands and pretend everything is fine
