Discussion - I need some laptop help

K so here it is.. I'm in need of a laptop in never home so can't really use my PC right now.. I need a laptop that can run a few EQ accounts. Ok I can make do with running one but I don't want to.. So it's going to need Ok amount of ram a Ok video card and some hard drive space... But I don't know shit about laptop's... I also want to keep it as cheap as I can... Any one got any ideas? Post and let me know... Thank you

The Acer laptops with a dedicated video card are pretty good for the money. They do get pretty damn hot though, so do not put them on your "laptop" if you ever want children.... I can run 2 bots while doing compiles on mine, but starting to need a memory upgrade.

If you tune down graphics you don't need anything special. I have a gateway laptop shared graphics 4 gb ram duel core... About 5 years old that I run 3 accounts on.

I can run up to 7 instances on my laptop https://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/G51J/

I use EQPlaynice to lower my framerate and setttings (EQPN handles it better then ingame framerate settings), only my main client has medium details and all the others are on lowest details possible.

With 6 instances I have no problems, but 7 gives a hickup here and there.

Atm I want to buy a new laptop as well, but a friend of mine suggested to wait a little, cause there are some awesome video cards inc soonish.

Its a bit pricy though :S

Yes stick figures help a TON. I have a quality Gaming PC and I can bot up to 12 easy but Stick figures weather it be on raids, or just zoning into the lobby it rocks.

What does stickfigures do exactly? I understand you need to edit the eqclient ini to get this done, but what does it?

It makes stick figures out of all player races except Drakkin npcs included. stickfigures=1 in you eq ini will make it happen. I love it.

Yup can add it anywhere I put it at the top or bottom for ease of finding in the event I want to turn it off.

A well-built, small and lightweight laptop will always be well-built, small and lightweight.

A cheaply built, big laptop might be nice for gaming now, but when those bleeding edge specs aren't bleeding edge, what do you have left?

Always take quality and size over specs, with laptops it's worth it.

I recommend a small Thinkpad. Get it used off ebay or craigslist, they're tough enough to be good as new.
