I use a macro to cast nukes and i have the first line as /pet attack, then after that it goes in to a loop. each time i change targets and hit the macro, /pet attack again. is there a way to make the macro that IF the pet is already attacking and has a target, it stays on that target but if NO target, it then switches with me?

I think we need a bit more detail on this one to really offer suggestions. What type of automation are you using? Toon class? Macro example, etc. More detail allows more help.

sure. So in the attached this is a simple 3 dot macro. lets say its tied to 1. so i hit 1, macro starts. first line, pet attack, then the script of casting the 3 dots. now lets say im multidoting and change targets, hit 1 again to start the macro and cast the 3 dots. in its current config, the pet will also change targets with me and a new /pet attack command is given. i am wondering if there is a way that in that /pet attack line something can be added that if the pet is already on a target, it doesnt change targets with me. just keeps attacking. but if it has no target, it starts attacking the new target. keeps the pet DPSing but doesnt lose dps by changing targets a bunch of times. that make sense?

Try using /pet qattack instead. It will tell the pet to attack that mob after the one its currently on is dead.
