I've been playing Everquest (on live, and emulated serves, and Everquest II, and now Legends) on and off for years, but never realized the amount of extra functionality that had been built up around the original game until a friend told me about the various packages people use to assist their multiboxing efforts and I wound up here. Very much looking forward to absorbing and making use of what looks like a ton of information here.

Would anyone mind offering some personalized suggestions on where to start with all of this? I am a lifelong developer and unafraid of configuring and coding things myself if I have to, I don't aspire to run more than a single group, I tend to prefer casters over melee, and while I am planning to learn to box better on live, I'd probably end up on emulated servers as well.

If it matters, this isn't me asking for someone else to do my legwork for me, I generally teach myself to fish instead of asking for a meal. I've read a decent amount of the "beginner's guide to.." posts, but I don't have all of the time in the world for experimentation, so I'd be thankful of some educated and up-to-date takes from the community at large who might be able to start me off in the best direction(s) based on my use case as described above. What software/packages/plugins to start with, on live or emu, must-have plugins, etc.

Plus, it's nice to interact with people (sometimes).

Your expert opinions are appreciated in advance. In return, I offer a photo of my cat who thinks that she would like to live in the dishwasher.

> Getting Started With RedGuides <

I suggest getting started with any of the popular automated systems like CWTN plugins (probably easiest to use for casual IMO, hardest to customize for multi group boxing, if at all possible), RGMercs (I haven't used much, but appearst o be a hybrid of clickable options like CWTN with customization like Kissasist), Kissassist is full customization, not really much works out of the box, but is bloated and a little slow at times (pro tip - do a ctrl F for Delay=5 and change to delay=1, your guys will engage much faster. Have to do this update everytime you update MQ2).

Along with that automation you will want to figure out how to move your toons around. "Come to me" and "follow me" and "chase me" are popular ones. When i move my 36 over water, for example, i do a "come to me" command which pauses everyone, stops casting all spells, dismounts my toons, stops singing if bard, etc. Then, i hit my Travel Selos hotkey, which tells my bards to sing Selos Song of Travel (all invis and lev now). Then i click my "stick me" hotkey, which is just /bca //stick uw (uw is key as without it, toons will run to bottom of water instead of floating on top). But, for when i'm killing, I p0ut all toons into Chase mode as the follow is MUCH better then /afollow or /stick (stick runs into walls, follow seems to also run into walls where chase navigates around them).

Then, when you have your toons moving like you want, turn on whatever bot program you have and play around. Each class will have different settings (liek when to heal, what to use to heal, etc, depending on the prorgram you are using). Here is where CWTN shines for single group content, but really lacks in multi group content. For eample, if you ahve 2 shamans, they both buff, the same time, same order, and no way to stop that. Shaman A buffs toon A with focus, Shaman B also casts (both casting at same time or very clos to each other). Shaman 1 lands, 2 overwrites, wasting time and mana. a simple solution is to buff in reverse order, but logical simple is not the same as code simp0le (as you are aware).

Also learn the MQ command like /target, that is huge. /bcaa //target agent, /bcaa //nav target will target agent of change and travel all toons to him in the zone, for example.

Oh, and don';t be afraid of AI for coding needs. I used AI to develop a complete, full complete heal Lua, where i can set delay in seconds, it tells me if i'm too low, visual timers of when next heal will hit, ability to swap tanks, swap order, etc etc. All with just prompts to AI. I'm currently creating a Lua version of ModBot, all with AI, 0 coding on my end (even though, I too, and am a lifelong developer).

The biggest limitation in coding is knowing what you can and can not do, and for that, lok at the Macroquest wiki for list of commands that are available.
