Hello everyone,

i am like most here I play off and on, and up till recently I 3 boxed toons with 3 mercs. I have recently tried to add 2 additional boxes and seem to experience alot of lag, and difficulty logging in the group using the mQ2 profile section. (eqgame.exe crashes)

running windows 10 with an older, but decently setup system.

I need to compare what I have to what others that are 5 box or more are using for there systems. looking for basic system or some specific things you do to run that many boxes

I have an amd 4 core processor with 16gb ram and a 250 GB ssd Hard drive with a 2nd Hard drive (standard drive) that Everquest is installed on.

looking for what others are using for there multi box setups

Thank you

Check out this CPU/memory tips thread from quite awhile back. Windows 10 handles memory pretty well, but you may want to check the graphics and other settings.

Your 4 core and 16 gb should handle 6 easy. Back of the napkin number is about 1 character per MB of memory, though you can drop the memory usage after they load if you're not zoning a lot. I do 6-7 on 4 core laptop w 6 gb, though I've got the graphics settings down to almost the minimum.

Some players also do multiple installs of EQ, so they can have their puller, tank or healer run at higher background cycles or longer clip plane than the DPS or support toons.

Intel Gen 4 I7 4 core with hyperthreading @3.4 MHz, 24 GB RAM, 250 SSD for OS, 4TB raid 1 (so no faster) for data/programs. GeForce GT 635 (forgot RAM) running Windows 7 Pro. I run 4-7 boxes with little lag running avg of 4-5 working hard. I did turn down graphics a bit (spell effects off and such) and works well for a 4 year old system. Also able to run other programs in the background without effort. You should be in the ballpark.

Video might be your biggest issue.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Running in full screen windowed mode with no issue. One thing I have noticed is /mapfilter npc (on) in crowded zones can really chew up your resources quickly.

3-4 yr old Intell i5 with 16gb DDR3 memory 1gb Video card nothing special around ?50 nvidia job, and I 10-12 box all day long,

only time I start to have problems is when opening to many graphic intensive web pages. can even sit and watch a streaming movie while AFKing ( I didnt say that honest.)

Sorry to forget this, but my video card is a POS nvidia geforce gt 610 with 1gb ram. maybe a 30 dollar card, my origional was fried when liquid coolent leaked in system. I will check out the Link EQTRADER74 shared to see if there is anything there to help, but multiple instances of EQ did not seem to help, even seperated my secondary drive with 6 small shunks and put an instance of EQ in each one. and still having lag issues

/shrug, maybe video card finally needing upgrading, but been running multiple instances on this card for over a year now

if you can spare the room I'd move the eq directory to the SSD

if you have 6 accounts running on a hdd and their logs are on and you could also turn off windows defender active scan. If you don't need the log on on your boxes you could turn off the logs.

If anything having multiple everquest directories on the same spinning disk drive is going to make things worse. Everquest gets a good performance increase on zonetimes and such from being on an SSD.

I'd use at most two eq directories, the second one you could have stick figures turned on.

fyi its 1 toon per 800mb to 1200mb of ram i can 12 box with an i7-970 16 gig ram and use 12g of ram with browser open and running nav meshing in the background. anything under 800mb per toon requires a bit of work, stick figures no luclin models no mounts sound files gone graphics on min. I have had 20 accounts running on same setup a bit choppy but 20 toons running with 16g ram and browser open.
