So my brothers and I all play Everquest (have for years) and are currently working on setting up a solid group. Currently our group consist of Cleric/Shaman/SK/Bard/Ranger so I was curious what would be our best option to fill the last spot? We currently have a 100 wizard and 100 necro but would like some opinion on what fits best with this group. As of now we are doing Into the Hills and Grelleth grinding just as an idea of what we are killing.

I think I should let it be known that we are not limiting ourselves to the necro or wizard for the last spot but rather which class in general would best fit in our group.

I'd definitely go with the Wizard in that last spot, solid dps and with the porting aspect also just makes it big win!

I used to run a similar group, just with a Warrior as the tank and it was an absolute bulldozer :)
 
I have tried almost every combo and have yet to come close to what wizards can do for dps and not wizard mercs they kinda suck badly compared to wizard with kiss I see him spike for 60k dps a lot on parses but usually in the end the sdps is around 23 to 30k dps on a 30 sec 1 mil hp fight
 
with just an empty kiss ini and no solid dps rotations on my rogue i can deal 35k, my raid geared zerker can burst around 100k but i only burst on named other then then just frenzy and volley my zerker does 20 to 25k dps. Now if i can get my rotations down for sdps my rogue should hit 45 to 50k not sure on my burst cause after i pop my burst on my zerker mobs die to fast lol. Just need to find out the dps rotations for my rogue, and my rogue is max aa so that might make a difference.
 
I've never found a kiss setup for wizards that does good dps really. Example is kiss can use the AAs but it wont know not to use arcane destruction if prolonged is on and not to use improved twincast if you already have tiwncast . It also will not use your AA nukes inbetween cast of spell nukes for maximum efficiency.
 
yeah wizard is not max aa but again he don't do bad and the numbers you are talking ive never seen out of a rogue using kiss , was always told they just don't work well with kiss is that all mq2melee based?

would love to see a raid geared wizards dps im willing to bet he will make ya zerker cry lol
 
I have to agree with the Wiz all the way, I tank with my wiz but I am crazy.... I do wiz wiz wiz chanter cleric sk, I call this the Michael Bay approach to EQ! Lots of Explosions!
 
yeah the dps is mostly from mq2melee, i have a couple holyshits from the rogue ini that william12 posted in the kiss forum, but i have an rof t1 raid dagger and the sol dagger thats rogue only from cotf grp merchant. On non named rogue is always 30k+ with my zerker at 20k+, on named my rogue hits 50kish (doesnt seem to want to blow the main dps disc's) so i manuelly do discs on the rogue so im a bit tarded at the rotation. But my zerker i just hit my raid burn key and watch his dps spike up close to 100k on named, thats without shammy clicky either nor running warcry so cant complain. Once my enchanter gets 100 i will be trying out my brd+chanter+wizard to blow things up, but thinking i might change out chanter for brd but my brd has the dps of a potato, he just gets skinned.
 
well I went bard route for a time but found I like the mana buffs of a enchanter and the ability to lock down a lot of mobs fast plus im not running a melee group so I felt the chanter was key with having mage wizard enchanter but I have always wanted to max a zerk and a rogue to see but alas I haven't had much experience with mq2melee and went path of least resistance with kiss.
I would love to have folks run parses on there inis and post what there ini does on say 30 second fights since most trash we usually deal with are around, named its all about burns but so many variables .

i do question what would bring more to table in a melee group a ranger or a rogue,
 
Well since the last patch rogue would out shine rangers, parsing wise, same with zerkers with just trash mobs. Burn would be zerkers if the holy trinity happens (stars align, no wind etc) but rogue can burst now and have high passive so they shine quick and last, were as zerkers burn 10x faster but have no passive dps. I can post some parses in a couple days that will show trash mobs in neriak fourth and i pull 3 at a time and i dont cc them and they last maybe 50 secs total with a war ber rog enc cler shm. with just ber and rog they do 60k dps, war about 10k sometimes more shm about 15k and cleric at 9k =) and last and least enc at 3k. and thats with kiss and mq2melee no abilities other then volley, frenzy (now that its fixed), bs. now for support i would say ranger just because of root park cc and single pulls.
 
It looks to me like the rest of your group is not actually built for extreme dps. If you are more concerned with steady DPS and survivability rather than with burning down mobs with extreme DPS, perhaps a different class would be a better fit.

Considering the makeup of your group, I would vote for necro. He may start slow, but the class burns things down consistently, and necros are survivors.
Most wizards need supporting characters to survive, especially if they are attempting to learn how to play the class. This could mean that the person building the Wiz might have to have help just to level the character until he adjusts to playing a Wiz. In my opinion, the necro would be easier to solo while someone is learning the class, and he would fit in with the current methods of your group.

OTOH, your group needs a transporter and Wizards shine at playing taxi even when the player is just learning how to play.
 
One thing to consider is how it looks when you have melee classes out in the open using KA. They all look a little suspicious if they return to the same spot. A wiz is a good addition to any group for ports and DPS. My group is mage/ranger/bard/druid. We really burn the mobs down so fast that there is no need for a slower, and usually I ranger tank.
 
I have a similar question. I have war/wiz/chanter/cleric. What should I fill the last two spots with? Was thinking zerker and rog, or bst and rog. Any thoughts?

I'd recommend sticking with caster dps since you have the chanter. Add a wiz/mage or wiz/wiz, in my opinion.

I have the same advice as HiHi. With a chanter in there, I'd add more caster dps. wiz/mage/druid even. I would avoid melee dps with that particular group. I also avoid melee dps for boxing as it looks more 'suspicious'.
 
Yeah, Druid could be a solid choice as well. Backup heals, some debuffs, ok dps, etc. Never played/boxed one, but I know they're pretty versatile. You also get more options for your bind1/2/3 for easy access to your preferred camp spots.
 
I now have 3x 100 wizies and I put a cleric and a chanter and lead them with my SK all 100 and stuff dies FAST! OMG so so fast!
 
I couldn't live without my mage. CoTH is just way too useful to pass up since im uber lazy and hate running places.
 
I use teleport blind and park all my team in pok until I get to the "spot" either way someone is running
 
Unless the zone doesn't allow binding. ;-)

Teleport bind is useful though. I run a mage/wiz combo

So I've been thinking of swapping out my bard for a chanter. When I'm active at the keyboard, I like the selo's and being able to use the bard to pull singles and such. When I'm running KA and not paying much attention, I've found it's better to just have my warrior pull and have the bard CC as needed, instead of hoping the war grabs mobs off the bard quickly enough after pulls.

Going from war+wizmerc/bard/wiz+wizmerc (and cleric after expansion comes out and I get him caught back up) to war+wizmerc/chanter/wiz+wizmerc. Will the twincast and mana flare and such come close to making up for losing bard focus? I know the CC difference will be pretty significant, as well as having "real" slows from the chanter. Are there any downsides I may not have thought of, outside of losing selo's, some tank ac and spell focus?

P.S. Razkle, is "Teleport Blind" where you close your eyes and pick a random port spell from your spellbook and run from there? :P

I switched out my bard for an enchanter with a war/cleric/mage/druid/wiz group and lost a lot of DPS. The Mage + Wiz + Druid all use fire based spells and the bard amplifies that so much that mobs melt. The Druid also has a fire based amplify that seems to stack. The chanter will lock down the crowd much faster, and of course having haste/mana regen is a plus, but the bard seems to be all around better. This is perfect for zones/spots where no one will realize you're boxing all 6, but if I ever bring anyone into the group, I drop it down to only 1 melee class. as we've all said... multiple melee classes looks suspicious if there are any onlookers.

Hmm, perhaps I could try out using war/bard/ench/cleric/wiz/wiz or mage eventually. I have an account that I could PL a chanter on fairly easily. I know there's some overlap on the bard/chanter abilities, but think it might give me the best of both worlds that I'm looking for.
 
I tried that for a while, but ended up shelving the chanter. Maybe it's just not my play style. A Mage would be a great addition though. Port with the wiz, then coh with the mage. Just my thoughts
 
I will have to look hard at my bard, I have 3x 100 chanters and no 100 bards, will level my 93 bard to 100 and see if he makes a dif to my teams (I have 3x 100 teams)
