Okay here is the setup. Got my new group up and running. The group is level 20, except the Tank he's level 22. Now the Tank sees most every critter is grey (killing would not give experience) but the rest of the group see every critter is eithe blue or higher. So the The tank starts killing the greys and hopes that a green or blue will spawn. The tank gets no experience killing the greys but do the rest of the group that sees the thing is blue gain experience or have a skill increase?

Now to add some more thinking caps going on, try this one one for size. I switch from the tank (lvl 22) and grab the ranger (lvl 20), and pulls a critter that cons blue to the ranger. Now when the killing is done, will the Tank get exp for the kill or the rest of the group get exp? Or does no one get the exp and have to look for bigger targets (color wise).

Whatcha all think?

I recently had a higher-level tank in with lower-level people (it was like a lvl 91 tank with like the lowest level a 91 could group with and still have them get xp), obviously you have to be in the correct range so that you can group and get xp but as long as that is the case, even if the mob is grey to the high person, the lower-level characters still got xp. I do believe there is a range to this so were nobody would get xp because the mob is too low, but off the top of my head I'm not sure. Now, if you switch from talking about leveling xp and were to try and get aa xp..then the mob has to be at least green to the highest-level person in the group, otherwise no aa xp for the lower characters.

I'm not sure I understand your 2nd question. Are you talking about having the tank still tank, but dropping him from the group and replacing with a 20 ranger instead? If you are talking about that, then the group should get xp as long as they do more damage than the out of group tank (and you just have to be sure to remember that damage done by damage shields doesn't count for anybody so putting a high damage shield on a tank where the mobs kill themselves in 1 hit of the tank results in no xp for the kill if the only damage done to the mob is the damage shield)

If anyone makes the mob grey, no one gets XP.

Higher level also takes a "lions share" of xp before the scraps are distributed.

I kind of thought it might be this way.

To clear up some confussion: The group consist of a Warrior, Ranger, Cleric, Enchanter, Magician, and Beasty. Warrior (Tank) is level 22, Ranger and the rest are level 20. Now the rest of the group spot a critter and it cons blue. The Tank (warrior) sees the same critter and it cons grey to him. In the first segment the group attacts the critter, kills, Tank does most of the work. Then question was do the group get experence because it cond blue to them and the tank gets none because it was grey to him. For now no AA build (their to low level yet).

Now on the second we keep the warrior as tank but make Ranger the leader and puller. Same critter cons blue to the ranger but tank still sees it as grey. Question was does the group get experence, some of the group get experence, or None of them get experence?

This is reguarding Power Leveling a toon. As I take it from what Sic said (always go with what Sic says) As long as the mob is not grey to the group (as a whole) then experence is given.

There is 1 level of grey that will give experience, but I think it's a rounding error in the game so it is like every other level or something. Forget how it worked, been years since I found it. Best to just assume grey to anyone in group is 0 XP for everyone rather than trying to finesse it.

I thought AA exp and level exp work differently when it comes to cons?

Definitely no AA exp if mob is grey to anyone in the group.
My personal experience and using google I've found other posts that back up my personal experience that grey mobs to highest level means no aa xp for anybody in group, but grey mob to highest person does not mean no leveling xp to lower levels.

I have done some experiments with a higher level toon within the 30 level range and if you are far enough away so that you wouldn't get exp but you have a tank merc up and the higher level toon is set as puller - the lower level toon can abuse the higher level tank merc and get exp. This is made possible due to the merc not sharing exp and the higher level toon being out of range for the exp distribution. This is how i have done most of my leveling without using "PL" strategies. But sometimes the merc bugs out and warps so you have to do some manipulation to fix the setup.

The second option is to always kill things that the higher level toon would get exp fighting. This will also generally give you higher exp percentages on lower level toons.
