We are at 22 degrees right now up in New England, heading to somewhere between 1 and -1. When EQ was out earlier I felt that tinge, as I have recently come back to Live. Re-feeling that patch days thing was a 'new' thing again, ha. Anyways, my point is special thanks to @brainiac and all you great RG staff and members, while I was bringing my smallest flock of chickens to the basement, I had that 'I will be soo bored if EQ goes out' (and cold). So the sight of everything running and seeing my little team of doobs xping again, warmed me up, gave me a froggy smile. <3 🐸

We are getting the starting of our ice storm right now. Tomorrow morning should be waking up to wind chills in the minus teens, and I am in southern oklahoma.

in MD here - just did the nightly stuff for the goats/sheep/chickens/ducks/rabbits - last 2 days have been really nice --- i could *feel* the temp dropping and the wind is picking up pretty substantially

It's supposed to be in the 20s in Texas next week. I think they should close the road and school when it drop below 70F. I'm not a cold weather person. I've lived on the Gulf Coast most of my life Houston and Tampa. My blood just isn't thick enough. My old ass gets arthritis.

Have to make sure all those animals are taken care of for sure! We are forecasted to get .66 inches of ice, then 2-3 inches of sleet, and 3-5 inches of snow. My work has already closed for Monday, and I bought supplies for Hot Toddies all weekend, so I'm gonna have me a nice weekend (and hope the power stays on so I can EQ it up)!

In Amarillo, TX, it is 11 degrees, and we are looking at 4 degrees overnight. It is chilly, I'm not going anywhere this weekend... Thank you guys for all your hard work you put in to keep us up and running!

Much Love!

Thanks for the reminder to appreciative of where I live. SoCal, doing beach days and hiking during the winter is normal. Its shocking hearing about weather all around.

-12 here is Michigan this morning. Its gonna warm up to 5 today... heat wave

10 currently in my part of MD. Last I heard it’s supposed to dump snow on us midnight to midnight tomorrow and then be below freezing all week for it to stick around for more on Wednesdayish. Starting to sound like we timed our Bahamas cruise later this week either perfectly or as badly as possible lol

I'm at 12 right now, and sounds like that is shorts weather for @stvski area, a moment ago a ton of snow slid off one side of the roof (no idea how with this cold, but its a beautiful sunny day before the storm hits, so maybe the roof got warm enough ? Anyway, my silkie chickens down in the basement for the day got scared of the snow fall and started to make noise, and I just found out I have ANOTHER Roo. Sigh...Last summer we got new chickens and expanded, but now we got 'unlucky' and this is our 5h rooster surprise. If any of you were close enough to NH I'd offer a free Roo, have a few kind now.
I have about 30 min to enjoy the heat of 12 and back down to 1 in two hours, wheee. and a fun email I got from my internet provider, 'Hi Hope we don't go out of service from the weather, stay warm!' Honk Honk, thanks... 🐸
@knave23 hope you make your trip with no issues, God Bless.

Sic, little jealous buddy, I want to get a mini goat or 2, but no area for a little structure yet. another possibility is a mini donkey. Are you doing any of your animals for meat or just good farm and milk/eggs etc?

so the sheep are for fleece, both sw and tw do spinning/weaving/crocheting/knitting, the goats are for milk and then cheese (we're real excited about this), the rabbits will be for meat, tho we haven't started breeding them yet, chickens/ducks are for eggs - all of them are good to help manage the land itself (composte/waste etc)

we really want to do bees (And the 3 of us got matching bee tattoos), but everything is so prohibitively expensive and we didnt' come into this situation with *anything* (knowledge, tools or equipment!), so everything has been a trial by fire, and working with what we have until we can get what else we need.

That is exciting, I have a desire to try that. Same with the bees, I saw some houses not that far away that do beekeeping, for some reason i don't get, it seems appealing to have some little dudes to take care of.. I'm not even a super honey lover. We get lots of wasps/hornets though..my kid stepped on an underground hive last year out in our wooded area and she was screaming like the dickens, she was bit all over. I went running and found her, she ran so hard she lost her shoes. I had to looking and kept thinking oh crap those angry hornets are now gonna get me.

the human -> bee relationship has been documented for about 5000 years - which is pretty amazing - there's a lot of folk ways to do with bees which is fascinating like "telling the bees" - bees fit really well into our overall goals/plans of stewardship - hopefully soon
