This task is irritating me. It has apparently changed somewhat from what has been posted, as I am getting an add right off, then adds every 15-20 seconds or so... and even having my tank use a mod rod or a non-damage weapon, they are freaking going down in 2 ticks. Heck set up MQ2melee to simply have the tank target himself as soon as the " Agonizing Needles" buff icon pops, and standing there NOT attacking the tank is keeling over, losing roughly 60-70% a tick despite double healers on him.

The best I managed was using an SK with out attacking, just casting hate over and over... and had 4 spawns pop up by around a minute. Concentrating on killing the adds did no good as, the moment the tank targeted the named, WHAM dead.

Thought I would ask how others are handing this? Apparently my play style make certain things easy, and others oddly harder then they need to so --shrugs-- hep me hep me!

I am trying to avoid using the "army of pets" route, but if that is what it is gonna take...

No offense, but I didn't know people still struggling at this mission.

I think a ROS TS geared tank can handle it with appropriate Healer Macro.

So if your tank is undergeared, gear up him; if your heal macro is inefficient, correct that.

Otherwise you just need a massive burn, I farm this like every time it's up. And only take 40secs-ish to burn it down(1.5M- 2M dps from Gameparse).

Of course casters would help but pure melee is just the same, my melee group are constantly war clr brd bst ber ber, and the boss is still down in 50secs with none ever died.

I'm not 100% sure with this but try use the Clr buff--Vicarum's Retort on tank and see if that helps you on tank survival or not.

im not sure your tanks gear, or what you are using. but i kill this all the time easily.

cleric/sk/mage/wiz/maybe a shaman and who ever else ...

ive dont this 2 ways... both ways, my sk does not use a weapon, just shield and hands

1.. massive burn from start.
2... kill sproutings... /tar sprout and nuke/melee it before they spawn adds.... kill burg mobs as they pop... then named...
.
if you have zero dps chars.. adds will pop faster and you will get over run.

all my characters are group geared. max aa

edit.. the only time i cant box it... is when im going for that artob ach.. (whatever its called, one where you merge 3 pitafuls together.)

I'm with the guys above.

I down this event every time I try with ease, 2m+ burn every time. Forget the adds and burn the cactus - Blood drinkers coating helps a little to offset the DS.

Interested in how your tank is geared because they shouldn't be going down that fast vs the DS.

I must be doing it wrong too. This mission kicked my ass.

its not a DS it is a defensive proc that debuff you with a lifetap from weapon, do you do damage, it will take a % of that damage and hurt you for that much giving it to the cactus

and not a high proc chance, just need to check if you have it on and if not burn else dont attack. Just as an fyi ber can one round themselves with that on them thats how much dmg it is. Pally splash may cure it not sure but for sure more casters better the mission goes.

I had problems when using a weapon before on the tank, now i dont. cause im not using a weapon

Well. the tanks I am using have RoS tradeskill gear and RoS merchant augs, and do fine tanking until the debuff is on... then they take massive damage while standing still targeting themselves... even with 2 healers chain casting on them.

Guess I will look into the mass pet army option instead, heh.

Will come back to this mission later, moving to another zone for now.

don't dps on your tank use a lower dps weapon and just have him tank. Let the others dps him. Thats what I am going to try.

My tank was still in TBM raid and poor mix of augs when I first did this. My group barely scrapes 1.2million dps .

But my war, I usually go backwards with disc's...start with defensive style then finish with avoidance. I almost always have the last 30% with tank under fort

I will wipe on occasion, generally due to my error.

I don't run a normal macro for heals, it can be too slow...I just use a simple straight up spam macro of fast heals and eqbc my cleric targeting to other group members as needed

It can still be rough for group geared tanks, esp if dps isn't up to par. Make sure your toons are burning on the first mob - except for things that are mob specific (like mental contortion). With an enchanter I'll throw out a ton of pets and let them take all the damage while the group burns it down fast. Try a rune glyph for the tank, crit glyphs for casters, etc.

I attempted this tonight, war clr bard zerker shaman enchanter, got it down to 50% twice then it got me down. So far no luck, my tank is in all T2 RoS mixed with RoS raid gear. I must have the WORST ini's for my group because even my zerker was only doing ~70k dps (I've seen him burn named for 400k) everyone else was around the same making for a lot less than a 2 million dps burn. all 110 all around 15-17k aa's

If you are getting at least 800-900k dps you should be able to beat it, thats the lowest burn i have had and won....see my post above.

If you don't have the DPS to straight up burn this encounter, you can do it the normal way by killing the sprouts (you can pull them into camp with lure or hates attraction)

Fell foliage and balance of power are cake, for fell foliage i use cleric to mark the named then go full ham with my crew. (brd, zrk, clr, rng, shm, war) i have issues with End of Empire that is the true PITA

1.5 to 2 million dps? Is my group composition garbage? I can stay alive for nearly 6 minutes fighting this, my entire team is in full scaled or scale touched armor and my rogue has a chase loot dagger (aug'd and all that). Am I missing something here? Do I just need to reroll zerkers?

My best pulls are like 800k rolling 6 dps average, I do have spikes up to 1.5 mil for like a second maybe early on. Do any of you guys have parses of this? I'm just curious if I'm missing something dps wise on some of my toons here cause my dps seems super low if you guys can sustain that kinda dps.

Ok, I finally beat it but still, nowhere near the numbers you guys are pulling. This was just a straight burn, didn't touch adds dps wise.

Something is wrong with your Enchanter for sure. Chanter should have no trouble at all pulling 200 to 300k. I also get 50-60k out of my cleric by just turning melee on with a good 2hb and the proper bard song procs. I use a 2h pierce on my SK and monitor the nasty spine thing and turn off attack routinely until the cleric heals me back to 100%. My group only does 800-900k total but can down this just before the locking add would appear.

Make sure you are using Calculated Insanity, IOG, and Chromatic Haze on the chanter and use your big burns on wizzie for those 2 ticks when Chromatic Haze is active.

Well, slightly better numbers tonight, that last parse my glyph spray wasn't up on the ench which apparently made a big difference. I am using Chromatic Haze and CI but I have them popping at 93% of the mob's HP in my ini rather than triggered, maybe that's the issue? I could make a downshit or an MQevent I guess to pop them when they see a certain event from the wizard perhaps. IoG is also being fired at 99% every mob. So all 3 are just in my DPS section.

That's interesting about the bard too, they've always felt so essential due to their movement stuff but that seems less and less relevant now on live servers, maybe I should get rid of the bard for a zerker or something.

I don't use a wizzie in group, I depend on a mage for much of my dps. So I'm trying to delay firing Chromatic Haze until I have enough pets on the mob that the mage's Volley of Many spell will hit for big bucks. Consequently, my chanter's DPS section is very nasty looking. So I keep checking for how many pets are up before firing CH.

Also for namers I think a DPSInterval of 2 is too long and a DPSSkip of 20 is too high. I think you want to keep burning until it's DOA.

Finally you should know that the preliminary mob in the Cactus mission is considered a NAMED. All my ${Target.Named} conditions fire TRUE on that preliminary cactus. But it turns out that works great for my Mage because a Mage takes hella long time to ramp up their DPS and that beginning mob dies really quickly so none of the big DPS stuff gets wasted on it.

Think of mages as a cross between necros and wizards. Many people forget swarm pets are essentially dots, since its not burst dmg.

Thanks Big, very good catch on both settings. I was aware how they worked but just something I missed. I'll make the tweaks you suggested=). I also manually hit my burns using the burnin command to avoid blowing stuff on the first mob, I had that same issue where my guys were poping discs cause MQ reads it as a named.

I was finally able to box this thing. I ran with a (non 110) ranger, (raid-ish geared) tank, (group) wiz, (group) bard, (group) shaman and (group) zerker. I put the ranger on ranged attack to avoid being eaten by the DS and didn't dicho on zerker for the same reason. Group DPS was 750k and it died just as the 3rd add popped. Had to hold off on hitting the KA key until the first mob was ~20% to save the good stuff for the big guy. Realized halfway through that the bard had melee turned off, likely safer that way anyway since I had no cleric mark going. Super pumped to finally have taken this one down, gave up on trying until I came across this thread and decided to give it a few more shots.

Haha, I think I'll just be happy with this win for a while before banging my head against that mission any more.
