WTF!!!!

Looks to me another failed attempt to make money.

I think I may check this out, just for pure giggles.

I would most likely make a class with the following combo:

Shadow Knight: Why because I deeply enjoy this class.

Wizard: Could you imagine a SK firing off those big nukes, um hello.

Bard: This would just be funny seeing and SK, firing nukes, and singing at the same time.

Plus an Oh Poop Evac....

Come on now. We know you want to see this combo.

I just hope I can wear Plate.

(Dang Spelling)
This will also probably be what I try as well. I just want a dual weilding SK with big spell crit. Hoping to make a WAR/BRD/Wiz?Chanter work in my mind as a way to bring the ol D&D Blade Dancer to life. Definitly worth a look. Cheers//

SK/Brd/Wiz was one of the (somewhat early) meta builds on THJ, but who knows if the same synergies will work on Legends.

There's a lot of speculation but not a lot of info on Legends yet. Chances are it's nothing like THJ, since THJ opened up all the AAs immediately - and made some good changes to AAs, spells, and gear to make it a lot stronger. Who knows what we'll actually see on Legends.

I thought this was interesting in the FAQ.

Will EQL have the same Expansions as EQ Live?

While EQ Legends is set in the world of Norrath, it will evolve separately with its own lore and timeline. While we do intend to release Kunark in the first expansion, EQ Legends will have its own spin on classic zones and will also add never-seen-before content

Yeah, I got that email Wednesday and was kinda offended. I applied for beta but just like old EQ I guess you had to get in the special contests or be one of the "chosen" to be granted free beta. So now they want me to pay? Nope.

I don't see any benefit to beta. Character name reservation matters to some, not to me, I like making new names. Same for the special"title" I think everyone gets full access to the game and races, zones etc so that rules those out. So not seeing what the extra $10 is for.

If I decide to play then the $9.99/month would be sufficient. But I don't think I will play this one.

It will be $19.99 to "buy" after beta too which will include a month's worth of playtime according to the FAQ. So the pre-order really isn't any extra $. The 1 month pre-paid playtime won't start until it's live.

How much will EQL cost?

The base game will cost $19.99, which includes a one-month subscription. If you preorder, your first month will start on the launch date of the game. After the first month, a recurring monthly subscription is required and will cost $9.99. EQL is a live service game, and we will be releasing new content, including DLC and expansions. Players can cancel their subscriptions at any time through their online account.

Yes I see that. Your gonna pay $19.99 no matter which way you go. So if you pay now you get a title and Character name reservation. If you pay later you don't.

And from what I have seen on other forums, the folks that are paying now are not getting access to beta yet.

Right, beta starts July 1st I think. Right now from what I remember it's closed alpha.

Edit: Yep July 1st

What do you get for pre-ordering EQL?

Everyone who pre-orders EQL will receive:

Exclusive access to the Pre-Order Beta, which is scheduled to begin on July 1st
The ability to reserve your character name for the game after it launches
Exclusive in-game title: “the Legend”

You know, my brain didn't differentiate between "beta" and whatever alpha thing they have going now. I was kind of salty about it after waiting for a key for so long and then getting "just open you wallet email", but it makes sense now.

I still won't buy it, but it makes sense. Other games have done the pre-order beta thing too.

I am looking forward to seeing what some non-steamers think about since YouTubers tend lean overly positive.

From the FAQ on Discord:

ACCOUNT CONSIDERATIONS

Does EQL allow Multiboxing?

  • EQL will be enforcing “TrueBox,” which means that only one client will be allowed per computer and the character must be operated by a real human (no botting).
  • The game has been designed in such a way that traditional “multiboxing” (multiple clients on one system) and botting are not needed, and changes have been made to discourage it.
What is the plan to combat AI botting in game?
  • We will be using anti-cheat technology, but we are not revealing details. There is also no /follow ability, encouraging individuals to direct their own characters.
If my whole family wants to play, do I need to get our IP whitelisted?
  • No. You are essentially Trueboxing, so you can have as many family members or roommates as you want playing EQL on their own systems.
GAMEPLAY: Races

How many characters can I have in EQL?

  • You will be able to create one character per server. This may seem limiting at first, but hear us out... your character can switch their second and third classes on demand in major towns. You can earn additional primary class and racial unlocks in game, so that you will be able to mix and match all of your loadouts. Essentially, you are an army of alts, suited to every battle or roleplay opportunity.

  • Dev is also working on an Alias system for post-launch, which will allow you to save a loadout under a different name, fully creating a true alt you can switch to at any time.
What races will be available in Beta and launch?
  • 15 races will be available at launch, including all 12 of the original EverQuest races: Human, Barbarian, Half-Elf, Wood Elf, High Elf, Dark Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, Erudite, Halfling, Ogre, Troll, plus Kerran, Iksar and Froglok!
Kerran, Iksar, and Frogloks were not in the original launch of EverQuest in 1999, where do these races start in EQL?
  • Iksar will emerge from a newly created zone, an encampment linked to the shores of North Ro.
  • Frogloks will spawn in the Rathe Mountains. Their appearance is in keeping with the Frogloks in original EQ.
  • Kerrans will start on Kerra Isle and will also be modeled on the existing Kerran tribes of original EQ.

I am not in beta or content creating for this yet, but I have already bought in. I am willing to give it a fair shake. I'm thinking it will still not quite scratch that Emu/multiboxing itch that I have but still give me the opportunity to do something different since I missed out on THJ server when that was still a thing.

Going to start PAL/BER/CLR and see what happens from there.

Hell, maybe I'll bang out some new songs as well if I like it. If it revitalizes the old school EQ community, my hope is it will also renew interest in the Emu community as well. At least it's a fool's hope of this old paladin. :)

EverQuest Legends confirms the addition of EQ2’s Nektropos Castle as a high-level group zone

everquest-legends-nektropos-castle-swirly-696x229.jpg

It’s time for EverQuest Legends to once again spend nearly an entire hour talking about itself and answering some player questions, although this time its particular focus is on the arrival of Nektropos Castle from EQ2 into the new-old MMORPG.

Described as a group-focused “mini-area” similar to Guk for characters that are level 35-50, Nektropos Castle and the surrounding area is set in a time before the Shattering, meaning it is still going to be intact and will have a city structure and factions within. The team showed off some in-development screenshots of the zone in progress and projects it to arrive sometime in October as post-launch content.

The vast majority of the video’s runtime otherwise goes over player questions concerning upgrading items and spells, a reversion of nerfs to melee classes in order to maintain parity with casters, how new gear from Nektropos will be balanced, confirmation of a mentor system that may be in place for open beta, and a full denial of adding player-made dungeons to avoid powerleveling cheese, among other things.

Is redguides/redfetch/macroquest stuff going to have an EQ:L option? I know this is not exactly something that can go up overnight because holy cow there a lot to redguides /redfetch/macroquest :D just curious because i'm pretty new to using this and i'm loving it. It's making my EQ experience much better.

No, it has been stated that Redguides will not have have anything for EQ Legends.

just for clarity - especially since w12 already knows this answer.

but rg will not be looking to do anything / have anything available for eq legends.

I don't know that there's a reason to -- you can solo everything in the game. At that point, automation is just like..."I don't want to play this game."

The communication this team is providing and the expectations they are leaving on the table without providing more information is causing waves throughout their pre-order beta and potentially even further. I hope they can change their course before its too late.

Merged some stuff into the eq legends thread. legends seems to generate/encourage what feels like a little bit of click-baity or at least "generate an emotional response" type of engagement. so i'm just gonna start putting them all into the singular thread rather than moving them around / deleting / fippys, etc

Rg doesn't plan on having anything for eq legends - in our (and my personal) opinion it is a very bad idea to try and do things like myseq or mq on legends, and we don't want to participate in those things, so we're gonna be pretty low on the "eqlegends community" part of it.

As someone who enjoyed THJ, and got caught up in the hype of EQ Legends..... I'm disappointed.

When they had originally released beta access to streamers, they were allowed to swap freely between any race / class combo as long as you're in town. You had up to 15 loadouts, and an insane amount of storage.

I was excited, i bought it to start the beta to figure out what i wanted to do. ..

First off, if you were not on w/in minutes.. odds are the name you want to save is gone. They didn't do it by server, which was a mistake.

I made it to lvl 10, which would allow me to pick my 3rd class. Upon doing so, I learned that which ever race / class you have for your primary is locked in place. You can only alter our 2nd / 3rd class. In order to open up ability to change your primary class, you must earn an achievement, which requires collecting of several items... Or buy it.

You are also locked into what your first pick in race is. You can switch races, upon maxing out faction with several lines of the to-be-unlocked race..... Or buy it.

Supposedly there is a way to increase loadouts, again with extensive work through the achievement system...... or Buy it.

We are locked into original eq release content, they have mentioned DLC... but they have not mentioned if it will have a cost. Or, if expansions such as Kunark will cost extra. I have zero desire to buy Kunar, Velious.. Luclin.. Pop... etc... again.

Ultimately, and this is going to be the typical "dad gamer" talk, I don't have time to invest into unlocking features.. I am okay with the slower leveling speed. But to require either a large commitment of time to unlock the game they advertised through streamers (who are not at fault for the misrepresentation) or force me to whip out my credit card for a poorly reworked 25 year old game... I am disappointed.

I did pre-order it, and I am reading in the discord that they are allowing refunds on pre-orders... I am strongly considering it.

Interesting stuff. Definitely didn't know q bunch of that.

You have any friends you're playing it with, or just by yourself?

One other QoL roll back they did as well is you have to pay 1pp per level to use the boat translocators. So in order to get from Freeport to BB you first have to pay 1pp per level to go to OOT and then again to go from OOT to BB. Poor design choice when the boats don’t work and you’re trying to get across the world at low level. I would be fine with it if the boats actually worked.

Now the cool part is you can get your own instance of zones and even make them more difficult. You get 2 charges and each instance cost 1 charge charges come back every hour. Instances have been a bit buggy lately when a zone is highly populated to where it won’t let you in but that is supposed to be patched Tuesday.

Najena and befallen have been revamped and have new mobs that drop new gear. Like an ogre named the Tenderisor that drops a haste belt in Najena and Drelzna drops the jboots. The Evil Eye drops the Manastone and Rubicite drops in CT.

Another neat thing is you can put spells in your Spellbook that are above your level or even for other classes you just can’t put them on your spell bar until you are that level or class.

I did not know about the 1pp per level! I started with Barb and didn't try to go anywhere . (I did think about befallen, but that would take my whole play session just to get there)

I will say with selling everything.... I'm not making an obscene amount of coin. I could probably afford a one way trip...

I don't get why to some "developers", hard+time sink= fun.

I had originally thought the original THJ crew were brought on. I didn't know until this thread, these guys had nothing to do with it and are essentially trying to make their own version how they see fit.

So they didn't fix the boats either but now they make players pay for them. Hmmm

I would have like it mostly for UI stuff or stuff you get from typical MMO addons.

I think they might have missed an opportunity to allow people to update and enhance the UI even further. I had a new player to EQ join me and her biggest complaint so far is that the group window doesn't show herself and only allies in the window. Since shes used to looking at group windows to heal tends to miss herself getting low.

Little stuff like that would have been nice, but I agree there is very little point to automate in Legends since you can solo, and the whole point of when I ran bots was to login and just be able to immediately solo things.
