When I first started playing, I begged people constantly for gear and plat. And somehow got level 46 on a dwarf warrior as a 10 year old wearing cloth armor.

Never again

also, the groundhog saw his shadow.. it's not the end of Winter!

When I first started playing it took me hours to figure out the gamma so I could actually see where I was going! Almost quit without even playing.

I started playing in the Kunark era, and my first toon was a Wood Elf Ranger.
Apart from dieing like 3000 times, falling from trees... here's the story.
At the time my friend was a very high end druid ( he was only level 36, but you know, noob level 1 i was...) he came to buff me so i could go kill orcs.
I find the way to the Bank of Kelethin, and i see a bag on the floor... click on it, and pick up an item.
Hey, what's that, Eye of Melnor ? blablabla 5 wis, blablabla...
/shout anyone could tell me how much Eye of Melnor is worth ?
3kpp.
level 1, richer than my friends... they were pissed, i was happy as hell :)

Since i'm in a good mood, i'll tell another one : same friend, wanted to PL me in the Karanas ! i run there (he wasn't online at the time...) and wait...
Oh, there he is, running past me... i run after him... here goes the wall... he ran for 10 mns in the wall, me sitting behind him and sending him tells...
Then he sat, camped... and texted me : sorry, fell asleep, will catch you tomorrow !

hope you liked it, and i have plenty more :)

I had a friend who played a bard in Qeynos, and another who made a Barbarian warrior. I figured that a high elf wizard would be cool, and bard said that I could portal places! I figured, great, I can get over to where they are in no time. Level 18 bard starts the trek to Faydwar, dies on the ramp to Highpass, dies a further 3-4 times to get the corpse with full banded. I ended up leveing in Crushbone, bragging to the about killing the Emperor and Dvinn and getting a magic dagger, then met up with them at Crocs a week or 2 later in Oasis.

The bold part, a thousand times... I think almost everyone can relate at some stage :p

I died too many times falling while lagging trying to turn around the tree tops and bridges on my old AMD K6-2. It was that, after being lost in the qeynos aqueducts for hours and deleting that necro to then making the druid and falling to my death. Way back when the Tribunal server existed!

The first night I got the game, I was super excited to try out both the Necromancer and Enchanter class. My uncle, who had been playing for a few months, had a 40(ish) level druid and I decided to roll a High elf enchanter. I started my journey into Greater Faydark and he told me that all I had to do was follow the trail that went from the right of Felwithe and he would meet me at a city in the trees. He said do not leave the path or you will die.

I will say that I took him WAAAAAAY to literally and spent so much time trying to stay exactly on the path on the ground as it weaved through the forest. Every 20-30 seconds I would stop and stare up into the trees trying to find the elusive "tree city". Long journey short.. it took me about 40 minutes to make it from Felwithe to Kelethin because I refused to budge one inch off that path.

I first started playing when i went to college in 1999. I ended up hanging out with some dude in the EC tunnel. we eventually teamed up and sold a ton of shit on Ebay. it was great until he had me list and sell a bunch of things and then when they sold, he disappeared and I lost like $300. super fun! but I learned a good lesson about online selling that day!

Another great story from my humble first few days in EQ. My uncle (once again) told me to take the boat from Butcherblock to Freeport. He said it was super easy and all I had to do was sit there. Being a lvl 6 enchanter, i stumbled my way through the Faydark forest, into Butcherblock and eventually with some serious luck (and EQAtlas!) found my way to the docks. The boat eventually arrives and I decide that I am going to just chill and flip through some random notes I had on the East Commonland hunting.

I zone into Ocean of Tears and am enjoying the scenery when out of no where, a random guy runs past me yelling "Run!". I panic... I literally freeze not knowing wtf is happening. About 30 seconds later, I see 4-5 seafury cyclops come jumping across the boat and instantly aggro everyone who is just sitting around chilling. At this point, my heart felt like it was going to literally jump out of my chest. All i can think to do is run. So i hightail it to the lower levels of the boat, only to see another cyclops beating on some poor fool down there. I'm distraught and have no idea what the hell I am doing, so I maneuver halfway between the top and lower decks and for some reason felt that ducking would make me safe.

So here I am, a lone level 6 enchanter ducking in the corner of this boat as I hear the grunting sounds of the cyclops nearby. Things slowly begin to quiet down and I muster up the courage to head to the top. Just as I step foot out into the top deck, they see me....

Back in that day, corpses had a common occurrence of ending up on the ocean floor, so I had to petition to get a GM to summon my corpse back to me in felwithe. It was a wild ride that I will never forget.

haha, so many of these stories resonate with me! Gone are the days of epic trains hitting zone lines and people losing their shit over it, but I digress.

My first toon in everquest was a erudite mage. My buddy, who'd been playing for a couple of years at this point, had told me about the game and how I had to try it (this was 2001). He played a druid and fancied himself an EC tunnel aficionado.

Anyway, after struggling through tox forest for a while and running to the zone lines to let the guards take care of mobs that had overwhelmed me, he came and got me. We ported and ran to the orcs in gfay, he buffed me to the teeth, and then watched over me while I tried killing orcs. It was exhilarating! I joined an awesome family guild that he was a part of, and once I hit level 48 they let me come on a plane of hate raid. I must have died 30 times, but it was so much fun!! I also had to stay up way late because everyone was Euro or Aussie, which didn't jive with the PST time zone we were in.

Anyway, I'll have to tell the story about what made me quit the first time..... lol... but that's for later.

That was the first thing i ever did when i first made a woodelf ranger was walking along and fell right off the pathway up in the trees and boom fell to my death.

Ah the wood elf ranger's with poorly constructed versions of Legolas phase, classic.

I was convinced to play EQ in 99 by my older sister's boyfriend, who at the time had a 50 monk and was in one of the best guilds in the game (I obviously had nfc what that meant). I honestly can't remember why I decided to start a female dark elf mage, but I thought it was really funny to name her Aparatus (the correct spelling was taken) because it kinda sounded like a sex toy or something. I was instantly twinked out with amazing gear  stein of moggok, SMR, all that good stuff and needless to say I became addicted to the feeling over being extremely OP... Then I found out it didn't matter how well geared you were when epics came out, f*ck you Quillmane. So I figured I'd start and SK because that epic sounds easier right?! Turns out SK/Mag were a pretty awesome box duo and then the next EQ addiction of PLing alts came about. To this day I still randomly pick a class and PL it just for fun? :toot:

Keep being weird EQ

I showed up a few months, got level 3 creator access, then completely disappeared without a trace. That was pretty much my 2017 RE: EQ. Gonna give it one more go with a new server and new set of characters and if that doesn't do it for me, I'm going to sunset my accounts myself.

A few weeks after EQ launched, I was playing on my noob Barbarian Warrior and I had just made the long and dangerous run from Halas to Highpass. Immediately upon zoning in, another Barbarian Warrior ran up to me and asked if I could please help him as he had been poisoned. Of course I couldn't. So he sat down for a few moments and spammed /ooc asking for a cure/heal. With about 10% of his life left, and still poisoned, he stood in front of me while I was sitting and then looked away and ducked... he then asked if I could please suck the poison out of his buttcheek to save his life. He ended up dying from that poison a few ticks later.

It was quite the random interaction as I still remember it 17 years later lol.

I started in Freeport and hadn't really explored much outside of the area. Walking through Freeport I came to the port area and decided it was time to explore the ship ride. After boarding the boat I was in for a 40 minute boat ride. I had no idea what might happen if I lost the boat and was hoping my "dail-up" wouldn't drop. Finally, I arrived on the other side of the world with drawfs, goblins, and orcs.

School had just started. We had a new student that was seated next to me. We ended up hitting it off and becoming good friends over the simple fact that we both played Runescape. Runescape was life, I had never played a computer game before it. The ability to keep my items after logging off and playing with others online was the hook for me. Matt kept bringing up EverQuest in an attempt to convince me to play. At the time I was embarrassed to even talk about computer games around others. It was SUPER nerdy and I was just too cool for that! I would always cut him off and change the topic to girls. I remember THE ONE day he brought up EQ and I didnt shut it down. He described EverQuest as basically a more detailed 3D version of Runescape. He told me that 50 or more people would gather together to kill dragons and that you could be anything you want to be like an elf archer, or a dwarf warrior! I finally had given him the chance to sell me on it, and he did. I made up my mind, I wanted it and I had to have it! I started asking so many questions which annoyed him because I ended up repeating the same questions just in different formats. What can I say I was excited! For me the most important question was, are the dragons actually big on your screen? He told me you needed to look up to be able to see them! This was it! He then told me that there is magic that explodes with colors and throw sparkles all over your screen! Everything he was saying sounded sooo cool and I wanted to play it so badly! After school that day I rushed home and I started calling all the Best Buys and Circuit Cities in the area. The only Best Buy that had EQ was down to its last 2 copies and was over 30min away. After nearly an hour of continual nagging my dad, he finally agreed to take me to purchase it. On the ride home, I remember opening the games box and pulling out the poster along with the 2 pewter figurines (a dragon and the elf lady). EverQuest, the gem that would impact my life forever, was finally mine! After the 7 hour install and the updating through my AOL start up, I was finally ready to dive into this magical land! However, now it was bedtime, so maybe tomorrow! My first day in EQ, I made a Dwarf Pally. His name Quama Kazi! I remember the bandit camps and running through the dunes. The giant spiders which I hated looking at due to arachnophobia. I lived in High Keep, slaying goblins all while admiring Ran Flamespinner. Sitting around for 15min respawns to kill 3 Goblins, this was the life! It didnt bother me, I was enjoying it, I felt like Rocky in training. All this dedication and determination to reach my goal of encountering my first dragon! Back in the day there were Naggy and Vox pickup raids multiple times a week. After months of training I was finally level 50 and ready for battle! One day right after school I logged in and noticed there was a Naggy raid setting up. Finally, the time had come! It was early enough in the day and Lord Nagafen had to die! I joined the pickup raid and headed to the gather location (after asking several people how to get there). I was so excited! I remember how hard it was to see in the dragons lair, there was so much red fog! It wasnt only the elements but it was the Man-eating bats that would come from the walls and kill my fellow adventurers! The experience was just as Matt had described it, I called him on my corded landline to tell him about my journey! As soon as I finished gloating I told him I couldnt talk and hung up because I needed to be able to focus! Now comes the depressing part of my story. After being on the raid for a couple of hours clearing the fire dragons lair, laying waste to the man-eating creatures, finally about to see and destroy my first LORD NAGAFEN, I ended up checking a corpse (King Tranix which off on the side with nobody around it) . On the corpse there was a necklace a Polished Mithril Torque. Reading the items description it said PAL and since I didnt have a neck item, I snagged that bad boy! Oh man what a find! Keep in mind, back then there was no advanced loot, everyone was a vulcher when it came to corpses. Click and loot fast so I did and I was excited! A fancy necklace and my first dragon!!! What a perfect day! Then it happened. I saw the question in chat... The question, who looted the Polished Mithril Torque? Now realizing that I made a mistake, I kept quiet. I felt like maybe if I didnt type the raid would forget about it and move onto bigger things like slaying the dragon? But people started typing things like really? WTF who looted it? whoever looted it should be kicked from the raid! whoever looted it lost their chance at Naggy loot! Im still thinking holy moly this is bad BUT they still dont know it was me. Then some tattletale said QUAMA LOOTED IT!!! No joke I felt flush and sunk in my chair thinking, oh shitshitshitshit! I still didnt type. I received about 10 hate tells simultaneously. These tells ranged from telling me I was scum to leave the raid and Im unwelcome. I felt like my reputation was forever tainted. My dreams of killing a dragon were crushed! I remember I finally mustered up the courage and typed, Im sorry I will give it back... to recieve the response of ITS NO DROP YOU IDIOT, YOU CANT! Feeling helpless I deleted it thinking this would show I was truly sorry and would help fix my mistake. I told chat that I was sorry and that I deleted the item. Then I received even more private tells informing me that I am an idiot and that I should have just kept it. I remember I pulled the plug after I was told to leave raid. I even cried a little lol, feeling like I would never play my new joy in life, EverQuest. The next day at school I told Matt what had happened, he told me I screwed up, and people would never forget that I did that. Super bummed and confused we decided there was only 1 real solution to this problem. I ended up starting over as a Necro, which is another story for another time.
