Question - Dealing with FTE (first to engage)

Yes, I have /mac kissassist and use it at a very basic level. I have been relying on the class plugins, primarily, because I am still fairly new, and they are easy to use. I would switch to entirely ka if it is the only approach that works for what I need.
My 1 group is fully automated, with an oog healer using xtar. I would like to also be able to dps from outside of the group (without a raid setup), but I want to automate the “/yell,” and have no idea how to go about it. I am open to solutions using /mac kissassist or any other method anyone knows.

You can add a /command in the DPS section of the KA you want in the group to do /yell once. Also could most likely make a simple Lua for that. I really don't recommend either of theses as you are going to stick out like sore thumb and likely get the 🔨 sooner or later.

That's an important point that I hadn't considered. Thank you.

So it doesn't sound like your question is a kiss assist question - but just more broadly.

I don't use kissassist, so I can't give you details on how to do this... but you could use dannet to set a variable in the relevant clients script with the ID of the npc you want them to engage. The slightly modified kissassist script on the out-of-group characters would check if that variable was updated every so often, and if set (or if a different ID than the current target), would engage the target.

DPS1=command: /yell I'm attacking ${Me.Target}, stay off it! would make that happen, although as mentioned above, might kinda make you stick out.

We used to just hot key Incoming %T and then something funny. Or when we trained the zone line we would yell out.

It was a subtle way to let other's know it was our mob or to get out of the way. Times have changed and I find there are not many areas/zones in the game that come up for dispute for fte.

I would see no reason to have to automate this because the other players are not going to pay any attention anyway. If they want it then they will take it. Players are very rude it seems anymore so I just go to a different zone.
