ilu lol. this made me think...i should take a current pic of my desk since icant play on it for al lthe crap blocking the 6 mice from moving lol... then i realized i have a Gollum funko (and plush) on a shelf above my main, an old cardoard candy box i kept because it had 2 cute kittens on it and a Supernatural magnet hanging on the wall, a trophy from high school solo music fest with my trunmpet, and a collection of longguns ....not to mention 30-40 prescriptions and supplement bottles and empty water bottles and venom cans. I dont think you could see the desk, and i dont think you could NOT see all the rest lmao.
your pic hit home though man, i have 6 externall hdds to my left with their cords woven in and out of a computer desk facing away from me (repurposed) that has my beast underit. it used to be turned before i rearranged things but now it kinds sticks out in the walkway. but yeah cables these are all 3.5 not 2.5s so 2 cables each, plus the 3.0+ hub which NONE of those drives are plugged into lol...and somewehre else...i forget where currently...are all the things the 7 cables coming out of that hub are parked at, maybe its the hidden shelf i meant to put hdds on (and really should move these to so i can set another keyboard up there)- not to mention those ext hdds all have bottles of suppelemenets and whatnot sitting on top- i jsut collectively call it my drugs, lol, some Rx, some vit/min some supps random OTC shit and even some snake oil lol.
I remember when my dru pc died (jsut the hdd but i pulled hte whole thing out and popped a new machine in her place) and crawling under my desk trying ot dort the wires to the UPS..omfg. idk what goes to what anymore, stuffs been shuffled around and other things plugged in woven through other stuff etc, 4 towers under my desk and the power to a laptop i was working on the other day, a dead kvm switch id tried hooking up a while back and ...just left it...and every monitor cables ive abandoned when swapping screens or machines around (either changing type or just grabbing a different cable cause i lost the last one) Then therere the 3 piles of hdds on my desk and keyboard tray pre and post testing and cloning, the single and dual docking stations doing said things on...a big pilled of screws from hdds and a laptop, and the pile of cheesestick wrappers i just emptied.
oh and the 8 different notepads all with the same purpose, the gutted smarttv stick im trying to flash, and a tangle of usb and earbud cords- not sure why theyre together really offhand... this is my brain lol. that mess of wires in your pic is perfect.
It really isnt always this bad..ok the cables mostly are but not the desktop, the desktop is a result of not having time to finish projects and acquiring new ones in the interim, it's also a handy tool for procrastinating farming the anniversary augs.
On the subject though: i went to the attic yesterday and actually MOVED the tower i started building in november...then i came down to get a screen, mouse and keyboard to go install windows and...idk what happened lol. That things gonna be mean but not 128gb ram mean (i start smaller side on ram but keep open slots to upgrade without replacing, so 1 pair installed the other empty) but we got so lucky when we decided to build that BUT werent like some of yall that get your hearts set on one specific make model this and that of each part and HAVE to hat the absolute top of the line (doesnt matter, theres ALWAYS a newer one coming just around the corner) and ive built so many machines ordering al lthe parts at once(makes more sense too because they all have the same sale date you dont finally build a machien 6 months after you started getting pieces -err ok not usually- just to find out the first piece you got shouldve been RMAd at the getgo. There was an awesome sale on just the parts we wanted at just the right time when we got all this stuff (and someone else's build thread was very very similar iirc) but almost all that shit is out of stock and/or double the price it was then. It wasnt until much later i found out how lucky we'd been getting all those parts and paying what we did for them, i didnt even know therewas an electronic shortage- though i shouldve, i mean theres a fucking sodastream shortage and 99% of all diet sodas and sugar free everything not to mention giant things of taco seasoning...poof, gone from the shelves, why wouldnt electronics be the same? bored people, gotta build new toys they have to buy from home...hmm...new computer
and the scalpers with the foresight to buy all the stock and jack the prices (i'm told walmart did the exact same thing when...ps4? maybe it was ps5? idk lol, when one of the systems launched they preordered way more than expected to need, but barely stocked the shelves and even put the price a bit high...but because theyd overordered stock there wasnt enoug hstock for everyone else- target, best buy, whoever- to get THEIR full orders so when they all sold out, walmart had a monopoly. cant remember if this was reigonal or national strategy though, or if anyone ever figured it out (insider info).
Fuck shortages. the shortages now make absolutely no sense. even the kids are back to school 5 days a week- AT the school, its only people whose entire job is to talk (thus phone works) who havent gone back to the workplace, and nothings really stopping them from doing so. I didnt actually expect ot get a vaccination, though i really didnt care either way(surnames dont match license and insurance and state form just to book appointment) and i hadnt heard of ANY that do ppl under 65 closer than an hour away. no way. The other day, im at the pharmacy 5min down the road trying to pickup something that wasnt ready for a few more days and as im turning to leave- with 3-4 more people in line at the pharmacy somehow- i get told "Hey! I got an extra covid shot, you want it?" and since i didnt have to fill out the nys online bullshit form just some recent health survey, boom, poke, come back in a month (yup, a month, i guess its a lot more flexible than they were saying.
ironically, while i was in line at the pharmacy that same day, i overheard the pharmacist telling an assistant how to deal with some lady's refills because she couldnt come get them, she tested positive for covid. The very first i've heard of in either of these 2 little podunk towns (one 1200pop one 1800, not a stoplight in either but 4 old wooden covered bridges) i get home, phone rings, school recording: Monday all kids go back to school 5 days a week for the rest of the year (they were going 2) but do you know what seems not ot have bounced back yet? Generic diet dew lol. not a single offbrand diet dew (or most diet sodas, though dr. pepper seems fine) is to be found just about anywhere, but the named brands are doing fine, new flavors AND in zero format even, a couple apiece i think...it's kinda crazy. You want toilet paper? too bad. you want a shot people been fighting over for 4 months? here ya go. How about some diet soda or a co2 cylinder? nope. ram or a new vid card? nope. how about 3 different flavors of cheetos mac and cheese? You betcha. some industries or companies seem to have bounced back very quickly/early if they even dipped, and others stil ldont seem to have a clue whats going on. How is there a shortage of CO2? and why taco seasoning when everything else is always fully stocked? what year did i last see at least 6 different new pespi/dew flavors/types all come out? i mean they even made zero versions of some of the wacky flavors (watermelon dew?) oh, and Guiness now includes a cup of coffee in their special kegcan things that rattle when you empty them. My brother in law thinks its awesome, but hubby couldnt stomach 1 swallow lol. Then again, he doesnt drink beer muchless guiness usually, hes more frufru or fireball, but the brother drinks 3-4 CASES of beer a week in the 2 days he's home from work. Why isnt there a beer shortage???
oh, and how did curfews ever help anyone avoid crowds? just funnels people into tighter time windows. We had bars closing at 9pm here on halloween, (and a few weeks before and after, but idk when that stopped) why do BARS somehow become more virally dangerous after 9pm? We had fullon chinese buffets open where everyone serves themselves out of the communal pots(and yes i did go and i ate and i filled my plate 4 times :P ) but bars had to close at 9pm for some reason. New york is illogical (then again if you were 65 yrold marathoner you could get vaccinated in january but you couldnt if you were 64 with cancer and copd and fucking aids- because underlying conditions werent allowed, only hospital workers and 65+ lol, it wasnt til after fastfood workers and walmart cashiers were opened up, that they added the sickly, and thus vulnerable to DEATH, to the eligibility list.
i totally went off the rails here guys lol. but yeah: lots of wires. i can relate. Building new computers: fun but difficult now. And covid, it sucks and so does new york. I'm gonna go cook something now lol
