We should have some kind of a sticky-thread that can show progress. I know folks are working hard while a bunch of annoying people try to be patient. It would be great to see their progress through these steps. Personally I could use a few days off of EQ, seeing the team's progress towards the fix would help me plan my week out.
Here.

0/100.

As I've said, when RG has something to share they will.

Anything else is a distraction.

Thank you to the team working on the release for live. The impatient folks please know your whining doesn’t increase the speed it gets done and just increases the frustration of the volunteer team making their best effort to build a quality and as safe as possible release for live. We all agree the game QoL is so much better with MQ, let’s not drive off the folks trying to retain that. I suggest in the downtime you look at learning how to play classes individually better you may rely on automation or plugins to do for you and look at alternatives like ISboxer if you are bored. Unfortunately the loudest voices in angst are probably too lazy for that and I would recommend just uninstalling and reading a book. Thank you again to the those working the live fix.

Thanks for keeping your patience with the impatient, Sic. Very much appreciate your (and more importantly, the teams) efforts here.

we > all < want the release as soon as the best good-faith "everything is correct" is achieved. I know the folks working on it have skipped out on a lot of IRL stuff since the patch.

trust circle time:
this is all scary for everyone - I haven't seen much of my fam this week trying to be "at the ready" to check stuff in my office (which is in an out building and not connected to my house) - had some tears of feelings of helplessness to myself last night because it *is* pretty frustrating not being able to influence the things you need/want.

Im one of the most impatient folks you will ever meet, however... this is worth waiting for. Ill be so happy when this gets patched, i might even make a whole new crew :D

Not sure if this is allowed, but found this interesting. A forum I read has a guy claiming he's already compiled his own MQ2 for live. Also, after looking at Project Quarm, and seeing the ruleset, NO MULTIBOXING ALLOWED, YOU WILL BE BANNED, and NO KILLSTEALING, it really seems like some kind of middle finger to live EQ and TLP servers, the fact that they would even be willing to work with someone like that, says a lot about DBG. I don't think he's doing anything for them besides the EQ Legends stuff. (Secrets)

P99 was fun about...15 years ago, for about 15 minutes. But to each their own. I disagree with them creating their own THJ when they could have just worked with the creators, instead they bring legal action against them and hire a clown like Secrets..
If i was an EQ fan spending 15 years on an Emu project.........i could have done my own MMO game.

You’d be surprised how often companies end up shooting themselves in the foot on purpose for one reason or another. That said, I still doubt that’s actually the goal here—I’m in the corporate world and I’ve seen it happen plenty of times.

If it really does hit a big chunk of the playerbase, let’s hope they don’t stick with it for long.
@Dalalen i think you are all assuming DBG is doing this for the sake of players or the game itself…call me nuts but isn’t this exactly what you’d if you wanted to clean a game before you sold the portfolio. Lets face it with AI on the rise it isn’t long before someone sets Grok or Chatgpt lose inside this old game and fucks up the IP…just saying if cwtn and Sic already built plugins that fo it’d be surprised if some nerd on china or India isn’t writing a thesis and getting a phd for doing it…

If at all possible could someone link where I can download the launcher for the test server so I can continue using RG. I've actually played on the private servers before but has been a bit ago. Thanks

?

the test server from dbg is the same launcher as the live servers - you just change the little dropdown to "test"

If you have some combative shitty things to say keep it to yourself. Next bullshit that is incendiary is going to the trash.

Like Redbot said any heads up or warning is better than none and we should be grateful. I am, even if I have the feelings I previously shared. It's a shame we don't get anything more but that's the reality, and no one is obligated to prove it or show anything.

The folks working on it will continue to try and find whatever things they can find so we can continue enjoying the game that we love and the way that we like.

I've talked to knightly a lot of the years, much of it about personal things. I don't always agree with him, or how he communicates, but I do consider knightly a "safe" person for me who is through and fair.

Knightly is often a "behind the scenes" person, but I've never known him to be confidently incorrect nor lie.
please don't make me tap the sign.

I think you’re reading a bit more intent into it than I was suggesting. I’m not assuming DBG is acting “for the players” at all, they’re a business, so their decisions are going to come down to what makes sense financially.

From that lens, it’s pretty simple: you either fix the product, sell it, or shut it down. Any changes we’re seeing could fit into any of those paths, not necessarily some coordinated effort to prep for a sale or protect the IP from AI.

The AI angle feels a bit speculative too. People have been building tools and plugins around games for years, it’s not really new, and it doesn’t automatically translate into companies making big strategic moves because of it.

So yeah, I’m not ruling anything out, but I think this is more likely standard business decision-making than some bigger behind-the-scenes play.

I think it has EVERYTHING to do with THJ lawsuits... I'm no lawyer, but I've done contract negotiation ad nauseam. One rule out there (yeah, it's a law or a regulation or some crap, but I haven't seen a state or fed contract that didn't allude to it): if you don't ENFORCE your own rules, or at least attempt to do so, you can't litigate when others break those rules... period. These activities line up right there with that as the sales of subs would then take a back seat to overall IP ownership value... which is a bigger check... membah what I said about them and the checks right?

@Dalalen memory isn’t what it used to be but i’m pretty sure DBG or Verant or whatever the fuck used to be called got into some shit because of kronos due to laundering or something to that effect. Just my two cents but the fact that we (us) can if we set our minds pretty much dominate or take over bazaar and or commerce via these tools, coupled with the fact that this game has its own online currency that equates to actual dollars…doesn’t seem far fetched that if you hook an AI agent into these applications you couldn’t re-open old wounds.

I haven’t actually leaned into playing for about a year or so but when i was fully leaning in i had maybe 3-4 servers where i was buying 2-4 kronos per day and had maybe 3 or 4 bazaar bots locking shit down. That’s just me fucking around with 2 old lenovo t430’s farming shit and selling for 4-8 hrs a day while WFH…a truly bad actor could (and have) created havoc.

This community knows all too well there’s been assholes running shit 24/7 farming plat and or ultra-rares disrupting livelihood for others and giving the community a bad name. Not an expert but from my limited experience with agents … seems like something fairly reasonable. If someone in china or india can grab kronos with little or no effort and flip them for $$$ may be a better livelihood that call center living.

These are moderator issues; EQ is so lightly moderated that bad actors can get away with stuff like this easily. On a monitored and managed server this would get resolved quickly with bans, trade reversals, and possibly roll backs if bad enough. A managed server would be closely watching accounts with unusually high throughput of pp/krono/high value items and lock them down quickly before they could do much damage. It sucks, but this of course gets blamed on the guy just wanting to PL a bot group in dead zones up to the mid 70's so that he can play his legacy character through content that he missed years ago.

Bring on Claude - EQ ?

In a sense, as AI integrates with so many things, that will be a thing for games as well, probably already is in some form. We had levels with Wolfenstein to Doom2 to Duke Nukem to you name your modern day favorite. Each increased a level of NPC 'intelligence'. I see many games increasing that today 'modernizing' the way things will react. A future MMO would have a AI dedicated code in it in the server to make things react and learn a lot more natively than just programmed in. This will also lead to adaptive scaling on the fly to create a level of enjoyment for the user to win and (hopefully) not feel cheated/easy moded. Though that human feeling to truly feel the accomplishment of winning is hard to gather per user..but creating the hard mode to easy mode need per player will be in there.

I was thinking in terms of giving an ai the inputs used for, say, live patch, then feed it all the MQ source, and tell it to generate a new MQ to work with the new inputs.
I saw a post about a guy who fed his old, dead game from the 90's into....some ai, and it built a playable version for him. No idea what that process looks like but it *sounds* like my example above might not be too far out.

But I could be off my nut as well....

its been covered about 17 times between these few threads. That's a vast oversimplification.

Somehow my entire Instagram feed has become a rotating generic Gen Z dude going "I'm sitting here in a house with my boiz and we're LOCKING IN with Zyn's to the dome 24/7 and we've got 10 OpenClaw agents running our whole shit for us and not a single one of us knows how to code at all and we got funded by Y Combinator and we're making 50 quadrillion $ per second on the app store with our vibe coded app that takes the sound of your poop hitting the toilet water and remixes it into techno songs for 6 year olds."

It's my fault for becoming somewhat fascinated with it. I'm sure 90% of it is sales hype or garbage, but I do wonder what a bunch of synchronized AI agents are able to accomplish at this point. I haven't been able to mess with it enough to get it to do much more than the desktop app is capable of, but it seems some people have.

Superb work incredible guys. I can only imagine how hard you worked. Truly grateful and will happily donate when the option becomes available! Thank you all for your dedication to the community. Much much love as always. Cheers to the future!

${Me.Invis} always returns false on Test server
I suppose this is a bug in openvanilla?
