Boxing on 1 computer on phinny - how?

Hello folks,

I been thinking about starting on phinny, but i really dont wanna go about using 2 computer although i have them. I want to 2 box at max, but not sure how i would go about this, if its possible at all. No fancy software, i just want to alt tab between characters if possible.

Thanks in advance

I thought the entire point of the server was not to be able to do that?

I believe that, with out the fancy software, you can't.

I'm not aware of any way to box more than 1 char on a computer on Phinny. If there is a way it's a closely guarded secret.

You could, however, alt tab between clients to some degree by using RDP or similar to your second computer and controlling it from the first computer. There are also apps that allow mouse/keyboard sharing and the like.

Whatever you do, you DO NOT want to broadcast keypresses. I've gotten booted off Phinny for simply pressing buttons on my two keyboards too quickly. Any type of broadcast is going to get you kicked immediately.

Seconded

Also still risky as I suspect as this server continues to gain popularity they will considering a ban wave to appease the main crowd. History repeats, DBG is no different than SOE. When the PR need peaks to keep it alive.....

Alright, wasnt aware this was that hard and risky. Thought you guys had found a way around it. I will use my 2nd laptop and just hook it up to my screen.

Cheers guys :)

theres a autoit script floating around that lets you swap between multiple instances (running on separate computers) of EQ on the same monitor. Just have to remote desktop them all to the same screen. The script i saw had the default isboxer hotkeys to swap instances ie ctrl+alt+#. but you can modify this to whatever you want

Float that script on over here if you can find it!

i wanna say i originally saw it on the EQ forums.....lemme see if i cant locate it.

edit* found it

Rich (BB code):
^!1::
IfWinExist, EverQuest ; local machine instance
WinActivate ; use the window found above
return

^!2::
IfWinExist, OtherComputerName1 ; selects computer 1 RDP window
WinActivate ; use the window found above
return

^!3::
IfWinExist, OtherComputerName2
WinActivate ; use the window found above
return

^!4::
IfWinExist, OtherComputerName3
WinActivate ; use the window found above
return

^ = ctrl and ! = alt. you can change them to whatever works for you..

the guy that posted this says with all computers wired with cat5e+ he can't tell a difference from boxing all on 1 comp. Wireless not so much though.

edit2* this is autohotkey btw, not autoit. my mistake

vm will get ya banned I heard another way is with team viewer but it isn't at all fast and responsive but at least if you had a baz mule up and was playing you wouldn't have to reach across to other machine as much .

I haven't had time to look up the code, what is it looking for exactly? Ip, serial numbers of cpu, what goofy shit are they looking for

no clue sorry never read that far into it saw what they wanted to do , if they leave us alone on other servers, they can have that one and quarm imho

Anyone have wireshark to see what's sent out compared to regular servers? Soon as I get my new laptop I'll hop on Linux and check it out

I used Oracle Virtualbox for months. Not sure if I was just lucky to not get banned while using it.

boxing 3 characters on 3 laptops, imo its the proper way to do it on phinigel without being scolded. you can get some laptops that play eq for very cheap ~200 and under
edit: work laptops are awesome fyi ;)

I like the alt tab boxing too. So i just added EQ to Steam and steam stream from my desktop to laptop. It can be flaky sometimes but i deal with it.

Yea, when you connect to the Phinigel server it sends an XML "fingerprint" that contains some hash values for your NICs, GPU, CPU and some other devices. I had broken it a few months ago but it looks like they added a checksum recently. (or some other form of verification to the end of the packet).

Ill see if I can dig up my pcaps but you should be able to find it quickly, its not encrypted.

Also, I've had a lot of success with VirtualBox, they definitely detect VMware though. I assume this is because their detection is pretty basic and it just doesn't recognize the devices my virtualbox uses.

I don't think a script is needed when using Chrome Remote Desktop. It works pretty damn well remoting into another pc and running the CRD window on your box with your main EQ client. Can easily alt/tab between them with virtually no latency as if you were just running multiple EQ clients on 1 machine.

why not just use multiple PCs and use input director to switch between them ? You cant automate it but you can control all of them pretty easily.

How many Desktops can you connect to at the same time?

Or just play on ragefire....... lol

If DBGs would add instancing to RF there wouldn't be an issue.

I am curious - would It be fairly easy to use Teamviewer to box with multiple computers on a single LAN?

I use it a lot to log in from work, and its slower than shit, but maybe with direct connection its a lot better?

Still slow as hell. I only use it if I need to log in from a computer in another room, usually only mule or pl purposes.

bummer.

I might have to try and scrape together 6 boxes and try that out

If you want everything on 1 monitor/keyboard/mouse I'd go with a kvm switch. I've tried different softwares but everything feels sluggish or just use your different ports on your monitor.

have you found a decent switch that has both HDMI (or dvi) and USB and is fast at switching?

KVM work well with laptops? What kind of delay do you think there will be hot-keying from one to the next?

The KVM switches I saw on NewEgg were about $60.00 for 4 ports. Looks like you can have manual switching by hitting a button on the switch (would not go with that), Hot-Key switching or OSD (On screen display). Hot Key or OSD seems like the way to go.

Not sure how these will handle switching between 4 computers for every mob pulled =P

If anyone has any experience using a KVM for boxing in EQ, I think your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I only use my 4 port kvm for display/mouse. Yes, I have a bunch of keyboards on my desk. Can't broadcast key presses and having to switch every time would be a nightmare. I generally play with a melee on my main monitor and a healer on my 2nd monitor, anything else I'm boxing can be controlled with /follow and a few macros.

Never used kvm on a laptop.
