Question - best/ideal out of group dps

I plan on leveling up a few new toons and I’m curious if anyone has any input on the best/most logical choice for out of group dps. I usually just run with six and pl one or three at a time, but some outside dps would speed things up. I’m thinking mage, but I’m good looking and not smart so open to any ideas. Thanks for your time, I’m curious if anyone has given this some thought.

my personal choice for out-of-group assistance is a druid.

They're not likely to bring as much DPS as a mage will, but if I'm p'lvling a cleric they can add in some heals, they can handle ports & etc. if I want to park my wizzy, hp buffs if my cleric / shaman aren't up to snuff, etc.

As Darkie mentioned, a Druid might be good. Mage isn’t bad. I’d probably go with a ranger, though. Get him a good bow and a modern arrow and it’s easy outside dps. Only thing would be if the ranger starts headshotting the shit out of stuff ... lol.

Headshot only fires vs dark blue? And humanoids? Zero rng experience here. I might be the only one in EQ without one. I’ll probably pl new dudes just leeching in tbl zones so things should be mostly yellow.

Druid is an interesting choice. I know they have some interesting abilities. High wolf uptime should give them reasonable dps if they aren’t tasked with healing.

I posed this question to a buddy and said I was thinking rogue and he said they were too dependent on a dps which seems strange to me because I simply can’t ever run out of discs to click on rogue but I suppose that’s not the same thing.

zerker, pay chats for the zerker plugin, never have to worry bout a thing.

You could do a pure melee, but why? It’s easier to just use a toon with other abilities (heals, pets, etc.) that give them some autonomy. You don’t want to waste merc time on a single random out of group toon.

I used to be very Pro Mage , but since I have aa'd out a few rogues and bez's I have seen the errors of my ways when I shunned melee toons in the beginning (started using MQ2 a year ago). Don't get me wrong, I have 3-4 Mages outside of group, but the consistent and dependable DPS output comes from my ROG/Berz.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.... when they're in group. Out of group? Too much of a pain in the ass, and they also look super botted/MQ2'd when you're playing more than a groups worth of toons.

My thoughts on this is a little opposite. I have a tank - a warr/sk and some healing - either a j5 or cleric/sham/droods. Then I build my dps group outside of that group to mop up the place. Kinda not aligned with the OP question but a different way of going about the same thing.. kinda. My dps group is a mix of sham berz brd wiz. If I'm PL'n I will swap out a zerk or the wiz depending on what class I am pl'n. Also as Kaen01 said if you run a zerk, grab Chats plugin.. its a great addition to your zerker(s). I also have a rnger that I'll peel in if there is opportunity for head-shots. I do stick him in the tank group at times to do nothing but pull for the team.

EDIT: forgot to add I have a chanter for CC, he always goes in the tank group.
