Next question - as I know best F2P healer is a cleric...what's the best F2P tank? How do they all compare, or done one stand out?

I'm thinkin' my mage pet... his name is Goner. He sounds like a real Winner!

Seriously tho, so far I think my SK is out performing my War FTP

I prefer my WAR over my SK for now.

If just doing a group grind it's probably neck and neck in many cases. The SK's ability to tap / dot offset the slightly increased damage they take compared to a warrior and it's likely a wash as to kills / hour or exp / hr.

I find warriors have a deeper toolbox when it comes to survival of a big pull. By that I mean that its been my experience that things like no time to bleed and etc. make tanking a named (when defensives are available) almost easy mode. SK's can do it but it seems to me that warriors make it easier.

Warrior utilities seem to conflict less than SK utility with other group utility. I could be wrong on the specifics but I believe SK things like Staunch Stance conflict with shaman Ferocious Growth, the SK defensive proc conflicts with the mage one, etc.

On the other hand, if I were doing some questing or progression or etc. I would probably favor the SK due to their increased utility (invis, lev, FD, pet pull, etc.) it may make getting from mobs in this zone to mobs in another zone easier and the SK is tanky enough to do the job.

and from a purely mathematical point, warriors get 5% bonus xp, have a smaller AA pool to max AA, fewer spells..

I have a SK and a warrior, both in T2 EoK gear and some ultra-rares (so not F2P), but my observation is the SK seems to operate better with KISS than my warrior does. With KISS, the SK manages individual vs. AE agro better than I've been able to get my warrior to do, and locks down mobs faster and harder.

With that said, the warrior is stupid overpowered when tanking something toe to toe while using a disc. Back when the warrior was way undergeared the SK got plowed because I wasn't paying attention (forget the exact situation... I think it was Delerious Beserker in FM), and the warrior stepped in to tank. Even SIGNIFICANTLY undergeared compared to my main SK, the warrior tanked the named no problem with the exact same healing.

I like my SK better for grinding, but the warrior is a solid tank, as well.

warrior by far outdoes any sk, any benefit of dps is a wash compared to survivability. then that leaves utility, thats what the other classes are for. now if u have a sk and dps classes only thats the only time i would consider a sk over a war for any tanking at all. as far as the comment of locking agro, war by far wins hands down (most of my tanking is done by me not kiss). tanks are just that, not finger wigglers

Warrior is the best at taking damage - they take the least amount of damage of any class in the game and that alone arguably makes them the best tank.

However, I would argue that MQ2 controls and pilots a shadow knight much better. The SK class allows for much more sloppy gameplay and it doesnt require perfection to be amazing. On a warrior if you time all your discs and cooldowns perfectly you're pretty much invincible, getting a program to do that with automation is nigh impossible.

Therefore I would argue while Warriors are the best tanks in the game, Shadow Knights make better mq2 tanks

But you can't pet pull with a warrior....

Just pull it all and let the chanter/bard sort into out!

With my sk I just tag whole rooms of mobs in EoK tier 1 and OS and he tanks until the cc locks it down. SK is in EoK tier 2 armor with a few ultra-rares.

And I'll add the jump from EoK tier 2 to EoK tier 2 with 3-4 ultrarares isn't huge. I was doing the same thing using a mix of EoK and TBM high AC gear before I finished out gearing the SK.

To be fair, no tanks should be F2P if you plan to do content where you really have to consider if the SK or the WAR is best in my opinion. Get a Wurmy and everything will be cake.

I've got all 3 tanks, and tbh Warrior is by far the best tank, hands down the best, BUT I find that if I'm playing with a bard for CC the SK is best (if SK is pullertank) as sometimes the warr seems a little slow to pickup aggro after pulling it in, whereas the SK pulls with a decent aggro spell and so mobs don't end up taking a swing at my bard when I pull them in.

Paladin isn't a bad tank either, never have any aggro issues, but it just isn't as much fun.

But for survivabilty on a bad pull warr always comes out top.

I have all three tanks as well and would have to agree, warrior. Not even a contest. Although my warrior is geared better than my SK and pali. With my heal team, I think you can pull all of Seb HH onto my warrior and he will survive it or at least there is no spot where anyone can pull enough mobs to wipe my team. I have one or 4 toons that keeps using AE spells or wild pets and I'm too lazy to adjust the ini, so CC is broken a lot and my warrior is usually tanking all mobs at once. Not a problem. I don't care about feign death pulling as I don't pull a mob, I just pull the whole area. I don't even have to use any disc to survive through @6 EoK T2 mobs. Although my heal team is two clerics, a shaman and a healer merc as I run more than one group all the time. Warrior is geared with all the good EoK chase loot in all slots except ears. Sk and pali isn't that far behind in gear and they do great on most things. It's just when things get too tough for them and they die......I know my warrior would have survived. With conditions, my warrior will disc/defense based on nameds, number of mobs or if he falls real low on hitpoints. With all the different defense disc combat abilities AA's and clickies, always one up ready to go. I mean, the two best ones refreshes so fast, a warrior can almost always run a defensive disc at all times. It's when I manually play my warrior that I see I don't even need to disc, but warrior bot will disc.

One thing I really like about my pali is that he is a good healer as well as a tank. I set up my Tear of Alaris team and forgot to start the mac on my cleric so pali was the only one healing and that team was fine 8 hours later. If the tank was my warrior, group would have wiped. Not sure how well SK's do refilling their own health bar as I just pretty much started the SK and haven't really used him on his own, but would assume on low difficulty camps, SK/Pali would do better as incoming DPS is probably trivial, so you can run more DPS classes instead of a dedicated healer. With a warrior, you will always need a healer as well.

with the power of EoK gear a FTP tank is totally doable now! MAKE SURE YOU GET AUGS!

This is the most honest real advice out there... I have the same issue with my war/bard. He's about to get swapped for an enchanter. I run mostly SKs as my tanks, and if I don't I run a war/enc or pal/enc... Bard songs pull too much aoe threat for the Pal/War to pick up fast enough... With an SK seem to never have an issue with Bard.

Paladins with a Zealtor in an undead area are some nasty nasty DPS though... They destroyed TBM.
