I've put off leveling this thing for far too long and I'm ready to bite the bullet and work on this. My question is where are some good spots to AFK level this thing? I've seen a few posts referencing this but either I'm looking in the wrong places in the zones or I'm confused about what mob types level it. Any advice on places to go would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I still need to get one of these things to drop for my tank. I care a bit less about other toons.

On a side note, does the bonus work when equipped in the ammo slot?

Killing any and all Alaran type mobs with the tear in your ammo slot will level it. Killing Alaran's is super slow. The first few levels of the tear go by kind of fast with levels 10+ taking forever. The best way to do this is in Pillars. There are several quests which have an optional bonus step. The optional step will reward you with a Fragment. The fragments off 5% of experience no matter what level your tear is. Its best to save these until you have over 125. Keep leveling your tear with mob kills while doing these quests as it takes more kills at the later tear levels. Once you have over 125 fragments then use them to get through the more difficult levels.

Don't the fragments also randomly drop from mobs?

yes any alaran will drop them. There is an instance, I will find it later, that the first step is to hold of an invasion with alot of alarans in it. you just round up all the alarans and ae them down, drop and reget the instance. the fragments are what you are really after from there, since the lvl of the mob determines how much exp the tear gets. second best place is the arena area in shards landing all mobs are alarans and fragments drop there and they are the highest lvl alarans i know of. that instance takes a couple hours of chaining to get the fragments needed, any out side of that can loot on an alt or just use on the tear. the arena takes about a weeks worth of farming to get the fragments maybe a little more time. the instance has around 120ish alarans and only takes 5 to 10 mins each time.

If any of your characters are under lvl105, keep them lower level and just work on AA's while leveling the Tear as much as you can. How the mob cons to you directly affects how much exp you get for the tear by killing those mobs. Don't start using a Fragment of Alaran History till you level the Tear to where you can click to completion. At lower lvl for the Tear, a fragment gets you 10%, but it is a total waste to use fragments at lower levels. I think after lvl10, a fragment gets 5%. The Tear doesn't get too horrible to level by killing Alarans till lvl15. After that, it's like you can go from lvl1-15 with what you'll need to go from 15 to 16 and it just keeps getting worse. I aimed to get 100 fragments on each of my boxes and get them to lvl 15 before clicking. Each level on the tear takes 20 fragment clicks (actually a tiny bit more), so 100 fragments (+1) will get you 5 levels. If you're actively playing, sure do the missions that reward a fragment, but personally I think finding a good AFK spot is easier.

Do the fragments stack?

Edit: nevermind... they do :)

Yes, they stack. I've come back from a night of "grinding" to have 10+ stacked up. Other nights might yield only 3-4, but they do stack.

I get a hundred a week and in a couple weeks or 3 at most I have the tear leveled, the trick is to be 105 in a group of 105s and mass murder alarans.... 2 of my fav spots are chelsith reborn and shards landing, they die SO fast and FAST is how you want to level that thing!

Its been a while for me, but where are the Alarans in Chelsith?

I was thinking befouled not the tear, scratch that... sorry... brain fart.... its shards landing and EVANTIL not Chelsith..... inside the tree is a great spot to level tear

Now this sounds like exactly what I'm looking for:

Anybody able to name that instance?

it is Rebel Assualt
if i remember you load the instance dont hail the starting npcs in the instance and run outside grab all the trash and bring back to entrance and aoe everything, loot, drop and reget. All trash is alarans for the most part, and should be around 100ish mobs and should take 10 mins at most. the alarans will move the tear progress till 12 i think maybe a little more but should be rolling in the tablets to finish it. My guild does that instance for the tanks and takes a few days couple hours a piece to get around 150+ tablets, most runs get you between 5 and 15 tablets sometimes more sometimes less.

It goes through several name changes as it progresses. The final item is The Tears of Alaris which belongs to lore group: Tears of Alaris

Unfortunately for me it looks like they have reduced the population in this task. I ran it 3 times tonight couldn't find more than 25-30 Alarans in the zone and not one tablet drop. If anyone gets a different result I'd like to know?

Thanks Saar appreciate the help!

For those curious on rates I did the arena in Shard's Landing last night for approximately 9 hours - result tear from 70% level 2 to 63% level 5 - 32 fragments. So not too bad for one night.

Calling Phantasm is, by far, the best way to level up this tear AFK. An infinite amount of mobs with zero respawn timers so no matter how fast you kill you never run out of mobs. You'll just have to set up a macro to get the instance every 6 hours.

Can anyone make a quick macro to request Calling phantasm ?

Also , quartermaster gillis in Sarith or any of the 3 quest npc nameds in this room respawn on a 7 second timer , or atleast seems so to me , Merc Killing. isn't fast exp but mob respawns fairly quickly and gains fair amount of exp

I bet some of the older macros with that functionality could be co-opted for this purpose. The older DH macros come to mind as a possibility, but I've never looked through the code before.

I don't know specifically the most elegant way to make it work, but if it was me I'd modify the following subs, add them to a kissassist mod for the mission, and see if I could mess with it until it functioned semi-reliably. You'd have to make a path to wherever you need to be to make this work. I've never seen this mission, so no idea how complex that is.

Rich (BB code):
Sub ReturnToGribble
  /delay 90s ${Me.CombatState.NotEqual[COMBAT]}
  /delay 180s !${Me.XTarget}||${Me.XTarget[1].PctHPs}>99
  /delay 15s
  /beep
  /bcg //end
  /delay 2s
  /bcga //tar Gribble
  /delay 2s
  /bcga //navigate target
  /delay 20s ${SpawnCount[PC]}==${SpawnCount[PC radius 40]}
  /keypress H
  /delay 2s
  /keypress H
  /delay 2s
  /bcga //taskquit
  /delay 5s
  /bcga //say back
  /delay 5s
  /delay 120s ${Zone.ShortName.Equal[deadhills]}
  /delay 30s
  /varset CampNum 1
  /varset ReturnGribble 0
  /mac deathpeace
/return

Sub GetInstance

  } else {
   /bc Gribble is OOR
   /endm
  }
/return

Like others said, i have seen the best results in shards landing with my new alt leveling this again. Its easy on the afking if needed too.

Only issue with Shards Landing is its REALLY visible. Everyone knows about that spot, and there are missions that take randoms through those areas.

I can't tell you how many AFK groups I have seen in Shard's Landing pulling mobs in the arena. It's so obvious they are running MQ2 because they all freeze when I get close. I send them tells and no response. I start killing and an hour later the person running the toons comes back to keyboard letting me know they were there first.

Shard's Arena is like the first place everyone and their mom goes to to level the tear. And then just any high concentration of alarans in Shard's. I just would not afk in Shard's. You don't even have to look like a bot group, just the fact you're there 24/7 raises some red flags. This is a popular area to level the tear that people that don't MQ2 use regularly and planting a bot group right there all the time is just going to cause issues for everyone.

Calling Phantasm is, by far, the best way to level up this tear AFK. An infinite amount of mobs with zero respawn timers so no matter how fast you kill you never run out of mobs. You'll just have to set up a macro to get the instance every 6 hours.

How do you setup the mission to have infinite alarian mobs? I'm guessing its something to do with skipping a hail or whatever. Any tips?

I started by trying a few different places, but ended up just running 1 group in Evantil when I was getting ready for sleep. Cool thing about Evantil is you can bind there, so I had a wizard bound right where I camp and would just teleport to bind and my Tear group would be up and running within 5 minutes. Not saying it's the fastest way, but set-up is easy and quick. On my server, this zone gets almost zero traffic during the usual low server population times (weedays work shift USA), but on weekends you'll see a person or two every so often trying to do a quest there. Also collected at least 8k+ (maybe even 10k+) befouled silks there and maxed out all my 14 accounts for personal tribute (and guild tribute) from the attunable gear that drops there since the drops were so common and lvl98 gear doesn't sell very well even though I sell at tribute price. I am so happy to be done with this on all my accounts!

The mobs will auto respawn when all are cleared, because you "failed" the event.
The only problem with the Calling Phantasm mission is that the mobs don't drop tablets.

Simple rule: Don't click ANY fragments till you have enough to complete the Tear.

The amount of kills required rapidly increases to insane levels. Your kills will make the tear progress, as you collect fragments the amount you need to complete goes down. When they meet in the middle, clickfest! I wouldn't use Calling Phantasm, tablets is the only sane way to go.

Just stay near your PC when you camp SL Arena.

Sepulcher of Order and East have an abundance of Alarans @lvl95-98 or so. Live and undead mixed in all over the zone, see invis mobs as well as see SoS mobs. Not sure about Sepulcher East, but there is no "safe" camp spots in Sepulcher of Order where if you were to AFK and you don't use MQ2, that you can take a break as no matter where you're at, a mob is going to agro on you sooner than later. Unless you invis after making sure no see-invis mobs in that area I guess. Still, nobody likes camping in there. It's always empty unless somebody accidentally falls through the cracks in Shards and zones in by mistake. Respawn is something like 13min30sec. I leveled my new zerkers tear there, I'd estimate if you went straight up and never left once you get everything going, it'd take 3-5 days of 24hr camping to max the tear. There's a lot of areas in Sepulcher of Order and I'm sure no matter your kill rate, you can find a spot where you don't run out of mobs.

Was this nerfed at some point? There are only a couple dozen mobs and they are a pain to get before the npcs kill them.

Shard's Landing - either do the trial mission on repeat (failing over and over will respawn the mobs) for 6 hours at a time, or kill mobs in the arena and they drop clicky tablets to help level boost as well.
Screw the VoA missions, seriously.
