I've tried to afk a couple of times and when I do, my group is dead. I can sit there and watch it for hours but if I really go afk something goes wrong not quite sure what it is. It seems like at least 1 of the 6 toons stop working and gets me killed. Tried again last night and same thing. Any ideas as to what could be going on?

Is your main perhaps a Necromancer?

I've set up my tablet to mirror my monitor and put that in the living room so I could let them grind while I was doing other things like watching tv. I haven't looked into the text message warnings and all that yet.

What are you using? Kissassist?

@bizban666 the most common problems Ive had occur were:
1. Line of sight problem - where sometimes the terrain, a rock, or something random can cause your tank to not assist your other toons or vice visa. Fortunately, last time I checked, Muleassist fixes most of these problems.
2. Summoning mobs - sometimes I’ll have my healer get summoned/killed/and rezzed which will set up a new camp spot. Then she’ll get killed that way.

@Saffron look into mq2discord. It’s so awesome

I'm much more nervous about doing it on EQ1 than on EQ2, but yes. It feels like you're just 'hanging it out there' doing anything in an open zone where somebody else could come up and see you, or do something to mess with your characters in an unexpected way. Now, instances - that's a different story - albeit they aren't entirely safe either (on EQ2 I've been banned a few times, and seen how GMs will spend hours tracking down every account you have - every account from the same IP, every account you ever gave anything of value to - and no, I'm not talking about dupes or the like - I'm talking about characters that were just running to instances, doing them, zoning out and back in).

That's the double edged sword as I see it - you can build your character faster, but you always are at risk of losing it all.

Edit: Just to expound a bit more on why the difference between the games - on EQ2 almost all content is instanced, there are overlands, but you don't really do much in them beyond the first week of an expansion - they just exist as a means to travel between the instance entrances. Also, when you buy the expansion you are granted a character that is boosted in level with the expansion purchase and are usually max level in 30 minutes - it's all about gear, not levels. That means it's a lot easier to 'start over' again if needed.

Just be super paranoid, use common sense and you'll be ok. I always use MQ2pvpalert to alert me to anyone zoning in when I'm semi afk/tabbed out, also always use mq2posse when you're afk. Depending on zone I set mine to a large area, often in the thousands and have every toon simply /quit if anyone comes too near. Just don't give anyone the opportunity to get close enough to see what you're doing.

Just a bit of context, this thread was originally part of a post titled 'POLL: Have you ever AFK'd?', and my post was in relation to that question. I guess bizban posted it there by accident, so his post and all the ones after it got split off into this thread. My reply doesn't really make sense in the terms of helping bizban since I was replying more to the original topic of being honest if you've ever ran AFK.

yeah the original thread was from like 5+ years ago, and the conversation was about support and figuring out why there were issues - so i moved so we don't have some necro'd disjointed thread, where bizban was just asking for some help

Turn logging on and then use those to see what happened. mq2log will make a mq2 chat log in a folder in the mq2 drive.

/plugin mq2log load
/mlog on

discord plugin is great for live updates on your phone. You can also setup text or email updates via mq2gmail

Thanks, I can see that being handy for what I'm trying to do too. (see if any of the data types of Spawn/Target change between one Narandi clone to the others, or how it signals the client to generate the blue circle)

If your operation system is Windows 10, using Win Key + G , you can record your main char video, then play back to find it out what happen.

biz ..you say when you afk ..how and where do you mean ? like are you rolling an instance or are you talking open world ...because if could be a mesh issue ..make sure your mesh is good .. on both .. open world could be line of site .. or mobs summoning could be breaking you like mentioned above ...if your instancing could be zone time lag there are a lot variables … but if you are having an issue you could also try the pocketfarm.mac and see if that fixes you if you're just looking for a quickfix without knowing what exact type of afk'ing you're doing .
