Question - A Question On Getting Banned on P99/ And How to Safely Buy On It

Hi folks ...I started EQ over 16 years ago and I retired 5 years ago.
I loved the game and I really loved classic and early expansions. So P99 is of huge interest to me.
I want to return and this sounds like my best bet.
I rather buy several accounts on P99 to get a boost. And to enjoy the game. Since my RL time doesn't allow enough to really get far enough to enjoy anytime soon.
I know I will get burned out starting from scratch.
Sorry for long post and thanks in advance for your patience.
I have accounts on Progression ready to go and my old ones on live servers. But I needed to know certain info about safety buying accounts for P99.
I can't afford to throw away my money. I'm just very new to the EMU server concept.
I used to buy on live servers on Playerauctions. But I began to enjoy this site.
I'm a firm believed in RMT. I even bought items for live servers in 1999 to early 2000 on eBay. EQ was big business on eBay. Till it quickly got shut down.
So I need advice , so I can safely enjoy P99 and not waste my money on purchases.

I did read how easy it is to get banned on P99 for buying Plat.
*** So am I correct that the safest way to get plat is to buy a high level toon or toons that already is well stocked with Plat and sellable items ?
Thus if the seller is honest and he never did RMT in the last year or so, or maybe he never did RMT...is this the safest way to get plat? To buy an account well stocked with plat and items already ? And of course I will have one or more high level toons to enjoy. And those toons could get me plat from regular game play. Making alts easier to level up.

First , I was curious. If i do buy an account or accounts for P99, since I didn't even download it yet.
How do I get the game downloaded if I don't have Titanium? Do I have to buy the discs on eBay ?
Most important ...When you buy an account. And I login.
Let's say I'm in New Jersey and seller in Texas.
Won't the GM's in P99 then flag that the account I bought was registered on another IP address far away from me , and now I had the account on a different IP address. Will that get looked at and flagged ?
*** I read guys buy/sell accounts on P99 often. I was curious how I could be safe if I login from my IP address. Not the IP address the account was registered with.

I'm very interested in buying accounts on P99, I just fear losing my money.
Do I play the account and make believe I'm the same person who registered the account ?
Or are you permitted to "gift " an account away ? So I say I got the account as a gift?
Or is there no way for GM's to track accounts bought & sold?
I bought plenty of accounts and plat on live servers. But I read how P99 is different and the GM's are hunting for RMT.
I am gonna avoid plat buying. Isn't buying Plat the easiest way to get caught ?
But how do I buy an account for P99?

Once I download P99, don't I have to register my name and my IP address gets recognized.
Thus if I buy an account from a guy in Texas and another account from a guy in Vermont, won't that bring my IP address to the attention of the GM's?
Even though I plan to play one account at one time. Not Multi.
Years ago me and my friend played WOW and we paid a service to create a high level toon from scratch. We had to give the power level company our account info.
By the time the company was at level 12, Blizzard would shut that account down. Blizzard would tell me that they recognized my account was being played at another IP address.
So I did get a refund. But that experience made me wonder how it's possible to buy a P99 account successfully and play without getting banned.
Even if I follow the RMT and boxing rules , with the newly purchased account.

What's it mean when sellers say no SMS set? Why do folks play so long without setting SMS? How is it a positive thing when a seller says "No SMS set"?

Lastly ...if I bought two accounts and make a third for myself. I will get an IP exemption for my teen son.
But my question is about getting Banned on P99.
If somehow my son does RMT behind my back or two boxes , and gets one or two of my accounts banned.
*** WILL I still be permitted to run other accounts from my IP address and start over?
Meaning is my IP address banned? Thus nobody in my home could ever play P99 ever again if just one account out of three of my P99 accounts get banned?
Or is only specific accounts banned. ?
And I could always buy another account if I am unlucky and the seller had recent RMT history.

And let's say I buy an account. And the seller did RMT a month ago. And my newly bought account gets banned.
Can I then go and buy another P99 account ?
That's why I ask , would my IP address be banned ?
Thanks all for the input !

Theoretically yes they could track the IPs and see a new person is playing on the account. They could also track your Mac address and what the user name on your computer is. The p99 staff wouldn't just blindly start checking every account to see if IP addresses are different because sharing accounts is not against the rules so various IP addresses on one account isn't so out of the ordinary. The account you buy will probably have to be reported by someone in order for the staff to start looking into it. Or the same person you bought your account from got caught selling items/plat and they follow the IP trail.

The main reasons why people play p99 is the no boxing rule and because they don't allow RMT. So I would think the chances of someone noticing a different person playing the account full time might trigger a report.

As far as bans, unless you're a 100x repeat offender they won't IP ban you. They will just ban every account you have logged into and they will tell you to start over clean.

RMT on p99 is risky because technically their logs last forever so in 3 months or 3 years you could be banned

Thanks for the info. Is there anyway to change your character name in P99? Or change from male to female ?
If not, I'm hoping if folks buy a toon and play it the correct way. That nobody will have an issue with it.
Plus, since folks are permitted to give away accounts.
Then if someone reports him , no action could really be taken ?
I do understand why folks don't like RMT for Plat and items. On live servers it led to camps taken 24/7 so "farmers " could line their pockets with cash.
But if you don't play your account anymore. And if you give it away as a gift. Or you charge a person $5 or $500...I don't see the problem with that.
In RL, people are carpenters and painters. Others don't have the skill nor the time. So people pay the person with the skill and craft.
Buying and selling accounts is similar.
I don't think buying and selling accounts can really hurt the game economy. Plat and item RMT can hurt the economy.
But since you can gift away an account. It shouldn't matter.
But just like on live servers ...,RMT of every kind , will always exist. It's just human nature.
Back in October 1999, if you searched on eBay and typed your servers name , over 50 auctions came up for mostly gear, rare drops and plat.
Some folks just have a RL schedule filled , due to job and family. But they played EQ years ago. They love the game. And they want to play the classic game again.
So they RMT, since killing rats for copper, wearing tattered cloth armor with a rusty sword , will burn you out after a while.
For some , it could take a year to get far ahead.
Hey...some will agree it's right. Others say wrong. Nobody is right nor wrong.
But in the end ...it's the GM's server. And live belongs to Daybreak.
So just like in RL, some try to get away with breaking rules to make life easier. As long as it's not a RL crime , then I don't see any serious harm.
Everquest is dear to me. But on the end , it is just a game and a healthy escape from reality.
EQ kept me sane when I escaped to Norrath after working my crazy job.
Verrant somehow got EBay to shut down the RMT anything related to in game items , currency and accounts. It barely lasted two years on EBay I think.
So folks ran to Playerauctions.
I am fairly new to Redguides. But this site seems like it's a great place. The community on here seem genuine and helpful.
I wanted to thank the Admins who run Redguides.
I think since RMT will always exist , you made a safe community to watch over each other. Plus your site is full of helpful folks and lots of information.
I need to get myself verified and really start exploring more of what Redguides has to offer.
Thanks again to those out there who give good advice.
Everquest will always be "Evercrack" to me !

I have never played P99 but have some friends who played there for a bit. They quit as they said the culture on that server is that you are only allowed to have fun "the right way" and after a few months they became fed up and quit.

Why I even bring this up is that what the OP is asking for is advise on how to "have fun the WRONG WAY" in the view of the P99 culture. I can't tell anyone how to do anything but I might suggest that you start a single character there first and try that for a bit before deciding to jump into it with both feet and a boxed crew

After years on live and a year on p99 (a solid year more than 1 toon to 60) and 1 ban with no reason I could find other than buying an item with plat that was not RMT'd but the guy that had the item had RMT'd.

Fuck p99 go to Phinigel

P99 IS CROOKED AS HELL !! Everyone knows how corrupt they are , I agree just go to a TLP and have fun its worth the 14.99 when you compare to P99, there is a lot of other servers that would fit your wants , some will even let you use MQ im creating one that I will allow . its called Stormfire
