Hey all, looking at picking up a cheap extra box. As I am in Thailand, my options are a little limited. I know EQ mostly is thirsty for ram, so wondering if this would handle 12 toons if the ram is up to 64GB and settings are tweaked appropriately? Thanks!!

Specifications

CPUIntel Celeron 5205U
(1.90GHz, 2MB Cache)

RAM 4GB (4GB x1) DDR4
Graphics Intel UHD Graphics

Hard Drive128GB SATA SSD

Usually my answer would be that a potato would run EQ 12 characters with appropriate RAM.

However here you have less than a potato..

That is a horrible performance for a CPU that came out 3 years ago. That is basically speed of a reasonable desktop CPU 15 years ago! - https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=intel+core2+quad+q6600+@+2.40ghz&id=1038 (before oveclocking...)

I really despise what Intel has done to the low end Celerons and Pentiums in the last 10 years. Those used to be reasonable budget options in the old days.

Mind You I've ran 16 characters on this potato from 14 years ago: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Phenom+II+X4+B50&id=380 with 32GB of RAM.

So that brings us to the question of RAM, you would want 16GB of RAM but while spec sheet https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...eleron-processor-5205u-2m-cache-1-90-ghz.html says it can take up to 64GB of RAM that is highly dependent on motherboard. Do not be surprised if it is only limited to 8GB RAM and then you can't really run 12 chars.

To be comfortable I would say stick with i5 or i7 starting from Ivy Bridge (3rd gen from 10 years ago). Of course AMD is an option too, but again avoid the lower power chips.

If you want low power something like HP EliteDesk mini with i5 low power series would work splendidly (not Celeron!). Lenovo or Dell have similar models.

You can pick up these minis used on eBay for less than $200.

Something like this is upgradable to 32GB RAM and will run rings around that Celeron PoS: https://www.ebay.com/itm/363962187628 - do not know his seller but looks like a big reseller which is what you want.

Yes, just kill your clip plane, graphics effects, etc...hard drive is a bit small...but should run fine

+1 to the HP ED.
I recently got a G2 HP EliteDesk 800 w/ 16gb ram for <$200. It's been less than a week, but tooling around 6-8 toons has been pretty good. Zone load times are a little on the slow side, but no video lag during fights. (Running Emu with mq2eqwire). Extremely small form factor, no/low noise, and generally travel friendly. I've some upcoming trips and wanted a "portable" eq rig w/out toting a laptop (I'll have monitor access).
