I've been away from EQ for a while and I'm probably missing some things that have changed in the last few years. For example, I just found out this quest (No Heroism Without Fear) http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=7485 gives you access to all merc levels (J5 and lower) and only takes about 15 mins to complete instead of the much longer way it used to be done in Korascian Warrens.

So do you know of anything else that someone who has been away for a while may not know about?

All you need to know is lots of shit stack to 1000 now.

Kidding...Let's see.... illusion through doors was fixed (if youre a rogue or bard looking for profit, or broken for the rest of the player base). AA bank has changed to I believe double your level. Can't think of any others off the top of my head but if I do, I'll post them.

OH, auto follow (in game AF, that is) now works regardless if grouped or not.

They recently implemented the ability to turn on in game timestamps. I have not used it but I expect that this would also adversely affect my parser just as the timestamps related to mq2. Which is why I have not used it. I'll add more if I think of it.

Well, depending on how long youve been away...

You can no longer leave trails of coins and you wont die from not eating ;)

Food/water wont kill you but will hinder regen if you go without it to long. At least on TLP it does assuming live too idk. They fixed illusion bug for going threw doors, they added HA's for Cotf expansion and higher where you can use the coins from missions to buy gear up to 100 and merc gear / augs

Edit--

Also they added picked zones

Regarding the regen hindrance... that's what I originally heard and thought, but someone was telling me that isn't the case. Do we have a confirmation that it does anything other than spam you with hunger/thirst messages?

The regen you lose on live is negligible.
Sym when did you stop playing? Depending on the classes you play and how deep you want to get into pregression it can vary widely how much you "missed".

At the bare minimum tbm prog for dicho is the only thing you need to really see gameplay improvement.

If you're still ftp, but at 105, get yourself some old Seb HH gear.

Personally I think RoF, VoA and CotF were really fun and the preogression is kind cool to go back and do once you're 105. I hated TDS. TBM is pretty boring but dicho is awesome.

It definitely does stop your regen if you go without food/drink on the TLPs only. On live it just decreases your regen since we have so much bonus mana and health regen our regen is a ball that can't be stopped rolling!

Aye if you can spend some plat this is definately the way to go since you can get a full set of basically T2 visables from the bazaar without camping and camping for T2 gear!

I stopped playing just before CotF came out, pretty much all classes with various group makeups. I did progression for RoF and VoA and I'm currently doing TDS since I'm ftp. No worried about progression so much as mechanic and quest changes. I spent a ton of time doing J5 merc quests back in the day. I was avoiding doing it again now until I stumbled across the new quest for it.

HH Seb is no longer available except you can still buy the glowing seb pieces just an fyi sym

I'm coming back after being a top player gamewide through RoF/CotF, and beta tested TDS raids.
I leveled to 101 easily with the saved up quest rewards I had stacking for months back then. Getting through 101 is kinda slow in my old stomping grounds however. I'm still silver, not committing to raiding again or even playing every day like I used to.

Where is a good place to go that's easily handle-able as a nicely raid geared Cleric (the main since '99), Rogue (farts out DPS still), semi-geared Paladin and Mage alts? Remember, all silver, with A5 merc help! I don't have the latest expansions, just what's auto-given past CotF.

I am upset at the Fade changes, but beyond that everything is the same or better than before.

I still run Gribble #1 &2. I can run each in ~20 mins but can handle 4-5 mobs at once. I think when I started it was around 45 minutes singles and doubles with CC. I find the lazier more bulk I can pull the faster. Xp is 10-15% regular level 100-105 per HA. You can also check in Plane of Knowledge if it's a daily you get more xp. If you have the time to be picky I would suggest finding an instance with dark blue rather than white cons, you will be able to tell the difference in hp/dmg output of the mob.

If you want current content, Lcea isn't a bad area with 104-106 trash mobs.

If anyone knows of a faster area I'd like to know lol

Just go crash through tds progression. Take the xp as it comes. It's not super fast, but the an trophy at the end it's a bonus.

Do you know of a good writeup on the Tear of Alaris(sp) progression? Also, is there anything from COTF progression that is worthwhile? I'm a relatively new returnee also ^_~

I used to do the shard's landing mission on repeat (failing so it respawns the witnesses) -- the only time it became a problem is if all of the 4-6 spawned ghosts took out one of the characters in the opening round, like the tank or healer.

I hadn't even downloaded the TDS maps. Got them all, thanks for the idea. ;)

The Veils of Alaris expansion? Or evolving the stone tear? If the later, just go sit in SL and slaughter alarans until your eyes bleed. Then kill more... Don't click your tablets (after the first) until you have enough to finish off leveling (<lvl 10 10% per click >lvl 10 5% per click). Cotf is where the heroic AAs start, and those certainly help, especially if you are looking for stuff to do. A few nice augs from some of the CoTF stuff (especially healer and nuker modifier augs), and a nice AC trophy from ToR progression.
