Knightly submitted a new resource:

MacroQuest (Test Server) - MacroQuest

This is the latest build of the test branch of MacroQuest. Often jokingly referred to as "MQNext" this build has quite a few bug fixes, but has also seen a ton of work under the hood. Significantly, this marks a return to open source with the current repo at https://gitlab.com/macroquest/next/mqnext . If you're just interested in what bugs have been fixed versus Live, you can find the full list...

Read more about this resource...

Alright, first build is up. It's supposed to have the paid plugins as well, but that part didn't deploy. I'm sleepy though, so I'll fix it tomorow. Happy hunting!

This available from the RG launcher using the NEXT tag or would it be a different selection for the TEST server? Figured try giving this a shot while everything is still crashing due to clickies not even sure if that is an issue on next or not.

it is not currently available on the launcher

Is there a plan to update MQ2Next with the PoK zones in "Find"? This was fixed in the MQ2 test build but it's missing in Next. Also, I noticed MQ2Say is missing. Any plan to make that available in the test build?

Is EasyFind currently broken in PoK or are you asking because you think it might be broken?

MQ2Say is in the test build, /plugin mq2say

EasyFind is working on the MQ2 test build. EQMule fixed it about ~3 months ago (estimate). Is there a plan to mitigate his fix over to the MQ2Next build?

First: Its MQ or MQnext, not MQ2Next.

Secondly, the easyfind that you'll find in the MQnext build is not eqmule's easyfind. the changes he made have no bearing on it because its completely rewritten from scratch. The Mqnext version should already support the pok connections but I've not been able to test it. You should let us know if it is working or not.

For those of us who are barely computer literate...

If I wanted to use this build, I would extract this download into my VV > test > release folder? Then, I would guess, not use the RG updater anymore?

you would want to have an indie folder specifically for next - you don't want to mix/match MQ "Next" and MQ2 "Legacy" versions

Thank you. So, in order to keep settings and whatnot that I've already got set up, copy the legacy folder, extract this download into it, overwrite any files with the same name, then log in? Have I got that right? I'm sure there will be things I have to tweak to get them how I use them, but will this lessen the pain of setting everything up again?

no, you should use a new folder for it like where i said "you would want to have an indie folder specifically for next - you don't want to mix/match MQ "Next" and MQ2 "Legacy" versions ".

just plopping next into your current install is not what you want, which is why I said that above.

Use a brand-new, never-before used, absolutely fresh, just-now-created folder

you can use the migrator utility to move all your configs and such for you, however > Migrator <

It has been raised on discord that there was a patch yesterday for Test. I am just the messenger, if you need someone to shoot go with kaen.

I'm sorry for asking this, I'm sure it's something very simple that I'm overlooking - but I haven't been able to get MacroQuest to load. The software itself will execute, but when I try to load the game it won't. I've installed the latest version linked here, I've migrated everything into a fresh folder, but when I try to load (either a profile or a clean instance) I'm getting a version mismatch error, with the Macroquest version dated 9/13. Running it through an update check returns the "No updates available. Current version: 3.0.0.255" response.

What am I doing wrong?

edit: I triple checked to make sure I was downloading the Test server version.
edit2: If it helps, the console error reads: [2021-09-28 02:25:05.741] [MQ2] [error] [ProcessList.cpp:626] Injection failed: version mismatch (mq version: Sep 13 2021 14:39:24)

the MQ "Next" for the test server isn't something that is regularly built or kept up to date. the build that was up was a "one off".

Hopefully in the future the next build for the Test server will be something that is regularly kept up to date, but that isn't something at this time.

False alarm, nothing to see here -- still some more work to be done for the current build. Right now there's a breaking crash in XTargetInfo so you can unload that until it's resolved.

20211201_174737.jpgthis is what I get when trying to load in mq2next even though everquest is up to date and I just installed mq2next

It appears that you have used the one from the launcher, rather than the one attached to this post. In the top right corner of this post is a "download" button which will provide you with a zip file to use. Extract the zip file to a folder and run MacroQuest.exe from there.

Feedback:
Just wanted to check in and say thank you for compiling this. I got a new laptop and decided to go with "Next" instead of the other version. So far, it has been a smooth transition with a little bit of reading mixed in. I was able to get Kissassist 12 running with Next also. All my plugins seem to be working and loading as expected. Over all it has been a pretty painless experience. Today I also learned that "." is binded to mq2chatwnd, which is hella convenient. Also in MQ2 settings, and probably the best feature that I have found so far is the FPS Limiter... no more need for mq2eqwire i suppose. I got everything up and running before I noticed the migration tool.... go figure. All in all, I would give it a 9/10. There is a small learning curve but nothing crazy.

Thank you @Knightly, @brainiac, @Sic and anyone else that has had a hand in this.

With most of the favorite/best plugins only being updated for Next, is this now the official version for test? (e.g., can we expect it to be updated with the same frequency vanilla was?)

@brainiac is the best one to answer this.

But Test is probably never going to be a "drop anything and do it now" situation the way Live is. I get what you're saying though -- can we update it after patches~ For eqmule, that was his job. His only job. The rest of us actually have day jobs, so it's a bit different. But brainiac does all the updates right now, so I won't speak for him.

Understood. I am just looking to get an idea as to whether or not we can even expect it to be updated after a patch, be it 24, 48 or even 72 hours later. It seemed like next had skipped a few patches, which left me going back to vanillia. As bad as it may sound, I don't have a lot of interest playing without the plugins, and while there is a lot I can still do CoV and below, I just paid for an entire group of xpacs, so I am really routing for this to get ironed out! I'll await the response from Brainiac, thanks again for your response Knightly.

Oh for the Love of test please let there be a updates for test like Live has.... I play on Live too but I really like test now a days....

It may and it may not help, but you can always send a little plat motivation... These Dev's work hard for free and it shows. Great product.

Hey man, if that's what it takes, I'd do my best to contribute. That said, if the issue is balancing priorities or there's just no interest in continuing the product for test, then money isn't really going to get us anywhere. So I'd request that if it is a matter of compensation, simply state that so we know.

At the risk of derailing this thread, I'd say it doesn't have to be an either-or proposition. They do this because they want to or because they have other motivations with many different projects that may or may not demand their time and effort. If we donate it may give them a tad more motivation to find that extra slice of their day that they spend working on Redguides projects instead of maybe watching TV or reading a book. At the end of the day, many of the developers here donate their own time and effort on projects they don't get paid for out of the kindness of their hearts.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know shit about fuck. I'm new to mq as you can probably see by my post history and I play on the test server. That said, I was under the impression that vanilla is kind of what we were paying $10 a month for. So if "Next" is becoming the official version, I would have logically thought that it would be supported in the same capacity vanilla was. And again, if I misunderstood the monthly subscription and what it entailed, my bad.

And again, if the main issue is related to compensation, why not monetize it like the other macros or plugins and be done with it?

because MacroQuest is a free and open source software. You're paying for macros and plugins and community support.

Priority is always on the live build, because thats where the majority of people are playing. Test patches twice a month. Unless its a low effort requirement, keeping test up to date is a disproportionately higher amount of work for a lower value. That said, we do want to try and get a test build out, but its not going to be as fast as a live build.

Please understand, that only in recent years have people come to expect updates to MQ on the same day as EQ patches. Historically it used to take somewhere between 24-48 hours.
