Hello!

Is it normal that MacroQuest wants around +10% from my 5600X CPU?

I do have the latest update for Macroquest.

I'm having an issue where launching MQ2 causes a 15c jump in cpu temp by itself.

ive tested this with no EQ windows open, all accounts open, etc, and the temps hold steady in every instance with the only variable being MQ2 being loaded.

load does not seem to increase or minimally at best, on all cores.

system itself is up to date, drivers, etc, and watercooled.

I idle around 63-64c with just firefox and task manager open, but the moment i load MQ2, it spikes to 78c+ usually holding steady around 82c with all accounts up and in game.

i cannot for the life of me figure out whats going on here as MQ2 is set to full cpu affinity.

happy to load any screenshots or provide any information if people might have a clue whats going on

GPU does not spike at all.

System specs
7950x
32gb Ram
3060 TI
256gb evo 980
 
7950x likes to run hot, that's actually pretty cool given amount of utilization. Mine is around 85 at 20%, and it'll ramp all the way up to 95c as its normal operating temperature.
 
There is something fishy but ...

Q1 - How many characters do you have logged in ?

Q2 - Are you using the MQ frame limiter ?


In general MQ2 by itself shouldn't add that much processing but ... each plugin or Lua script will eat CPU cycles. Things like MQ2Nav require a fair bit of compute.

You also might want to check your motherboard options/settings. Notice how your CPU Vcore is 1.45v vs 1.38v so the extra load is triggering your motherboard to increase the power, which also increases the heat generated.
 
There is/was an open ticket for the mq application using 5-9% of a processor in the last update or two. Several folks are experiencing it, and it seems like you are as well. I see it on my end as well with a 7800X3D chip although i haven't monitored my temps close enough to make that correlation.

I am unsure if that ticket on Git is still open or not.
 
The heat isn't a problem. 7950x will regulate itself all the way up to 95c.

I'd go back to intel, if AMD wasn't taking a massive doo doo on Intel's chest for the last half a decade.

Intel runs hotter and throttles, wants more wattage.. nah, Intel is stone age compared to Ryzen.


What cooler do OP use?

There seems to be a bug with Macroquest, it wants some CPU usage for some reson. My case, 10% from a 5600X.

I'm a System Admin by trade, I'm familiar with the chip and aware of its operating thresholds. my concern is that its a 15c jump just by starting the MQ2 by itself. not, EQ + MQ2, Not EQ + MQ2 + MYSEQ, etc. JUST MQ2. that seems like a ridiculous jump. I can run Helldivers2 on Ultra and my temps dont go over 75c, with a higher overall load.

Im using the H100 corsair water cooler, i recently reapplied new thermal paste a few days ago over this concern, and checked all parts on the cooler to verify its working and no issues. only running 6 accounts total, but again, this happens before the accounts are even loaded.

and honestly, a 5% load from a program like MQ2 isn't substantial, that's fairly low imo

And the voltage went down when closing MQ2, i think you saw the screenshots backwards.

the increased cpu load issue is a current known (and documented) bug due to the named pipe processing not waiting

The jumps are considered normal. Like you I was worried when I first got the chip. Just opening up Firefox caused it to spike 10-20c. Reseated heat sink multiple times thinking it was a bad contact. Went online and to search for a solution and it turns out the general consensus is that it’s normal. I remember watching a video from an intel engineer talking about these new chips and heat. Can’t remember the name of the video but I am sure a quick google search with bring it up.

The heat spikes like crazy just opening up small programs but I can load and run a full raid without breaking a sweat. Been running 7950x for almost two years now without issues.

Intel has their own brand brand of heat problems.

There have been a couple youtube videos from gamers nexus and jays2cents that both talk about the latest intel cpu's frying under excessive "out of the box" voltage settings.

The real issue both sides are pushing the top end chips into the red line for maximum performance.

i don't get a 15c heat spike for anything, and i mean anything, except MQ2.

firefox with 11 tabs gives me a whole 3% heat increase. i opened ISboxer, 6 instances of EQ, firefox, MYSEQ and server, steam, GINA, discord, and Gamparse and its sitting at 66c

only MQ2 causes a heat spike.

if anything else caused a heat spike, i wouldn't have posted.

Recent patch seems to have done the trick, i barely break 70c now

EDIT: averaging less than 65c now. thanks for the update <3 running great

it's a corsair H100, and as i stated in my previous posts, i can run damn near anything on ultra and my system doesn't break a sweat.

Win11- Somewhere along the way in the last week or two I've noticed that the macroquest process stays active when it is exited by a right click on the MQ icon in the system tray. Noticed it because when that is the case, the "Launch MQ" button does nothing until the process is ended manually from task manager. Can provide further information if necessary. Very minor annoyance at worst. Thanks!

I know it's automatic, but I would love to see what actually changes when new VVs come out. Is it somewhere I missed?
 
Today I had the same issue of leftover VV processes when updating VV via RG Launcher. It said a VV process was detected and couldn't update. The error stated to unload all modules from all instances of EQ. I checked and there was no instance of EQ running. I noticed an MQ process was still running so force terminated the program. The update completed successfully after that.

I exit VV by right clicking tray icon and clicking Exit.
