Just coming back to EQ and found Redguides, man I wish I’d found you years ago, I’m very new to all this. My question is how to activate some parts ie Farming and Hunting how are these plugins activated? I tried /Mac farm and /farm to no avail. Please have pity on an old noob.

Welcome Streykat!

You will start with getting very vanilla

And then you should check out Redbot's Video Guides

This will get you started.

Take it one thing at a time, there are MANY amazing things you can do around here, and it can feel overwhelming trying to do them at once.

This is a great community and we love helping people get rocking. Follow those video guides to get very vanilla working, eqbc working, and mq2nav and you'll be well on your way to fun times.

somebasics for you to help your thought process

a macro would be in your release -> macro folder
and to use it in game you would /mac macroname --- so you doing /mac farm was correct
to stop a macro you can just type /end (which is /endmacro)

if you wanted to try the plugin version - that is currently named MQ2FarmTest (added clicky link for easy reference for ya)
all plugins go in your Release folder and can be launched by /plugin pluginname --- so /plugin mq2farmtest
For this plugin, you can get the help menu once the plugin is loaded by typing /farm or /farm help

If you want to exit a plugin you can /plugin mq2farmtest unload

I'm real excited for you, it is so exciting opening the world that is MQ2/VV for the first time

Also - macros and plugins, while being very different things, can often have similar functions, but it is important to keep in mind that you can only run 1 macro at a time, so trying to /mac supercoolstuff while already running /mac omgvanillaisawesome would stop the one running and start up the other one. Multiple plugins can and will be running at the same time
