I spent some time this weekend in TOFS helping people get keys and earring progression and I happened to notice that the mobs needed to start the various spawn chains to get keys show up differently in ShowEQ compared to the common mobs. ShowEQ identifies them with '#' preceeding their name like it does for named mobs.
For example, the key to level 3 requires you to kill mobs on level 2 until "An Angrier Librarian" spawns. This mob will spawn immediately after the death of a random mob on this floor. I found that the mob that will trigger the Angrier Librarian is identified in ShowEQ as

#a ghostly student00 vs a ghostly student12. The real trigger mob will also always be numbered 00, because there can only be one up at any given time. The "real" trigger mob is not always up, you'll have to kill until it spawns, but if it's already up when you come into the zone, no matter how many mobs you kill, you won't get another "real" trigger to spawn. But because there's no way to identify the "real" trigger via traditional methods, one could spend hours killing in one area of the floor and not get the key dropper to spawn. So if you set out to do ToFS keys, fire up ShowEQ and check for mobs with '#' preceeding their name. Also using a social with
/tar #a works too.
