Question - Thinking about a new group on a different server, advice?

I have been playing on Test for a year now and LOVE it. I grew up playing on Povar. Lately I have been thinking about stating a new 6 box on a different server with no rush to level. What are some fairly active servers that are still fun to be on? Any server that needs to be avoided?

Bristlebane and Firiona are both busy. Firiona being RP with special rules allows trade of gear that's usually no drop. It may be easier to gear your toons there. However, if you are taking your time, maybe that would rob some of the fun from camping stuff?

The real FV rules that the droppable loot was supposed to offset 20 years ago are long gone. FV is active from 20-75 and 110-115 for solo people. If your doing slow rolling with a 6x, its a fine server. Buy trader bags and do what you want as your grind, sell TS and rare unique items..

I think Test rob some of the fun of camping. Everything is practically free... I wish I had not geared myself up so fast in the beginning . I regretted it later on when I started grinding Acheivements in EoK, RoS and TBL... I was already wearing armor from ToV, so I kept having to let good gear rot in chests, that was a let down. But, I still LOVE Test.

I moved a group of characters over to FV a few years ago and found that it wasn't as fun as I thought it would be, mainly due to that sense of accomplishment that feels missing. It's similar (but worse) on Test where there are so many test copies.

If that's part of the reason that you want to move from Test then FV may not be fun for you. But if you don't care about that then it's a good server. Just remember, you can always transfer TO FV but you can never transfer OFF FV.

Also, since you can /testcopy from any server, FV is a good place to stock up on stuff if you ever wanted to testcopy back to Test, since you can borrow items for the copy and then give them back. Which is doable on every server, but obviously FV can do it with items that would normally be no trade.

I also thought about rolling a group on FV but ultimately didn't because of similar feelings to what Knightly described above. I thought that if you could just buy everything then the economy on that server would be too pricey for me starting over again and i worried that my efforts would go into raising enough money to buy the gear i wanted instead of working to acquire it naturally, losing any sense of accomplishment. There is the downside of a regular server like the one I am on where I will eventually hit a wall where I can't go any further by myself, even if I can box a whole group or even someday a whole raid myself. Everyone raves about FV and I was thinking I was a bit crazy for feeling this way but I'm glad someone else confirmed it and felt the same thing. Additionally, I'm not sure a MORE populated server than the one I am on is ideal for my goals of boxing my way through the game now.

I currently box in FV and it has been a breeze with all the armor, augs, and weapons you can find in Bazaar. They can be really expensive because the server economy is just crazy (kronos are going for ~6.2-6.2 mil).
If I had to do it again, which I probably will, I may choose a very low population server so I don't have as many crybabies potentially reporting me.

I play on Rizlona. It’s a lot of fun. Some folks dog the server but I swear is one of the better communities. People will go out of their way to help you.

Rizlona is at lvl 75 and in TSS - which is a great expansion. Not too many AA to catch up, defiant gear is dropping, 2 strong non-box guilds on the server clearing content. About 7 weeks until TBS and Solteris.

High need for clerics and bards in guilds, probably medium need for DPS and low for tanks. It’s a lot of fun.

I personally recommend FV simply because you can achieve a lot more equipment wise for sure without having to actually raid yourself. Yes, the economy is strange there because almost everything is available in the bazaar. And things are expensive after I would say lvl 80. Lower than that, everything is really cheap. But the economy still beats never being able to obtain some pieces like on other servers where it is no-drop. And the language thing is daunting (unless you run the language mac). But overall, it's a good server. More people "police" the population for some reason on that server. But then again, it may be this way on other servers too, and I am just not aware. I have played on a lot of servers, and FV has my vote.

Just start tinkering with a new FTP crew on a server and see how folks are. If it's not to your liking, move along to the next. Your original server might not be a bad choice as I would think you would have toon(s) there that might be of assistance.

Best bet is to start new toons and ask people in general chat who is interested to start all over with you from level one .

Try to find people who play during your schedule and you will be surprised how fun it can be and also make new friends

this is prohibitively difficult - have you done this in the last 20 years or are you just broadly saying something that sounds warm and fuzzy?

when dbg hit the folks that were streaming @VorpalChicken did streams of several hours a day, every day LFG in pok - never once did anyone take him up on that offer - busy server too, not a ghost town.

unless you're on a TLP where people are just starting out, finding people to do that with you is very very hard - so much so that it would likely sap the fun out of the game unless you got incalculably lucky

Totally agree -

…..that being said, if anyone ever wants to start over on FV I am constantly making new characters for my army. We can set you up with level 1 gear. i have multiple sets, for each class, for every 5 - 10 levels, I can loan out. Whenever you hit 105-110 I can give you a a set of unmade 110 gear + a million plat or something, at which point finding people on FV to play with would be very easy.

I of course would still be happy to play, I have a very small guild (6 users 180+ accts) with a few RG users in it. They come along on raids whenever they happen to be online and/or join one of my XP groups etc. I usually have at least 60-70 characters logged in spread around the world. I do have a small vetting process for the guild, leveling though I have a separate IP and computer I use, will play with anyone.

1. Definitely 6-box (or 3 Gold + 3 Merc) ... so you can login and have an instant group!
2. I was talking to someone who recommended using more empty servers like Erollisi Marr to learn so you're not really ever prevented from getting stuff done (i.e. quests, tasks, or whatnot) as you navigate slowly through content with no rush to level up
3. I would recommend strong setups like melee or caster synergistic group setups that will give you more grace or mercy as you push content by yourself (with no help from others)
4. Have fun! Make sure you're main toon is the one toon you'd absolutely love to play and build up around that! :)

Just my two red:rcents.

Are they the one who’s streaming straight AFK farming? Saw a stream last night of someone obviously using MQ and definitely seemed to be fully AFK.

Hello Taz,

I had the same thoughts but from FV to another server, I returned recently (6 or so months I think) and pretty quickly conquered enough content to become bored at the ease. I am not certain of any servers to avoid. I chose to go to Bristlebane to restart fresh. I have found that I can pick up LFG folks easily and sit out a box or two for them, I found the same on FV as well. At times I prefer to self group but the guilt of seeing so may folks LFG eats at me. I am still trying (after 20 years) to figure out what I want to do in EQ, I wish you luck, hit me up anytime.

No, those from several years ago were not afk.

I’ll have to go back and look up who it was, legit AFK for about 6 hours streaming. Left a couple of messages in DMs trying to warn them that it was obviously not GINA or GamParse and even people not familiar with MQ would put it together quick.

Edit: Yup, definitely still botting on Twitch, I was banned from chat for asking what addon he was using if it wasn't GINA.
