Problem - started an emu account

You may need to provide a bit more info. Which server, a screenshot (with personal details not showing would be good, its EMU but still) to show your login info as might be something wrong or have you checked the server page/website to see if any issues today.

you may need to add the server short name to the list

like this

Code:
[Servers]
Project Lazarus=Project Lazarus

also double check the eqhosts.txt in your EQ folder.
should look like this

Code:
[LoginServer]
Host=login.projecteq.net:5999

can you get to the server select and server of choice without mq? if so it should be the one above this.

@Naturesong wouldnt that put me to that server only? i would like to see a choice of servers first.
Kinda yes, all the EMU servers use an old client, and then mod it. So you would need separate EQ client installs for Project Lazarus,P99, PEQ etc.
The login server though is the same, so you would see the selection screen. And you may even be able to login to a different EMU with the "wrong" client but gameplay would be unstable - or instance, we see P99 folks log into Project Laz all the time and ask in /ooc why nothing works properly outside chats.

@Naturesong ok, first thing i did was download the steam rof client i think 2012. i modded the client host file with the login.project.net:5999 or whatever it was and 1 more line that i have since removed it was "Host=login.eqemulator.net:5999". i modded the everquest shortcut they instructed me to do. then started the patcher put in my account after i oked a EULA, got to a darkpaw red screen then the login, put those in and thats as far as i have got

@Naturesong oh and i am currently downloading the laz patch as we speak
Yup, just follow the instructions for the laz install and config - including the dbstring file from here: https://discord.com/channels/548643730714918913/573969966844346368/1019311900242219078

From there, I set the RG launcher to EMU (make it's its different to the live folder) and download / update.
I installed mine here: %localappdata%\VeryVanilla\Emu and RG live here: %localappdata%\VeryVanilla\MacroQuest

cant get into discord, i have tried many times. lol i hate that program
Oh.

You may want to set aside a little time to revisit your discord aversion. The #patch-files channel of projet lazarus is particularly useful. As in, you'll need to grab a couple of files linked there.

But, to get it up and running initially, everything you need should be on the Lazarus site

Edit: the discord channel invite is here: https://www.lazaruseq.com/Wiki/index.php/Server_Resources#Discord_Server

i'm sure its something simple on my part that i cant get the stupid thing to run, i just havent figured it out yet
Did you verify the eqemulator account? If not it won't be valid. Also, I wouldn't have two host= addresses in your eqhost.txt file. Just use the eqemulator one.

You ran the eq patcher after editing the files in eq that it asked you to? With emu you should never open the eq launchpad / patcher or you will undo most of what you have done. Use your shortcut instead with patchme that bypasses the launcher.

@aquietone no i used the patcher with the change of patch me added in other words the modded launcher
You're still using the words patcher and launcher which is what I'm hung up on here. So when you click your EQ icon, does it take you straight into the EQ instance where you accept/decline the EULA? Or does it open the launcher?

OK, then in that case, not quite sure. if you just sit there trying to connect to the server select screen from login, then it sounds like it isn't correctly pointing to either the peq or eqemu login server, which is what editing that host file should have made it do.

Code:
[LoginServer]
Host=login.projecteq.net:5999

This is what i use for eqhost.txt. The projecteq loginserver is generally more reliable than eqemu loginserver, and also easier to use when setting up autologin.

edit.. which is the same as what grimmier already posted.

@Naturesong woot got to server select screen with the laz file that you told me to download, only thing i can figure was i had the wrong client
