I just got done going through all the trailers (videos) on the website for Star Wars: The Old Republic and I am amazed. This game is going to be fantastic.

Here is a link to their website...
Star Wars: The Old Republic

It is a MMO set to launch in 2011. One of the most intriguing features is their prospective four 'pillars' to an MMO. Convetionally, it has been Exploration, Combat, and Progression. Bioware (devs of The Old Republic) believe that Story should be the fourth pillar.

They are going extremely bold and they have game-wide full voice acting. Just watching some of the video, especially the full uncut portion showing the Black Talon voice acting, simply had superb immersion.

Think of throwing Star Wars: KOTOR in with an MMO. The combat looks decent, at least from the melee perspective. Ranged fighters seem to be more of an innovation over past MMOs.

My only concern currently is that of instancing and loot. I would like to see a proven loot system similar to that of World Of Warcraft's, but that could be perhaps because that is the proven loot system that works...maybe they could be innovative on that front as well. I haven't really seen any information on instancing, and I think a World Of Warcraft without instancing (especially at the lower levels, to me, more rather than the upper levels) would be incredibly boring.

Currently they have a prospective beta program sign up (You could potentially be selected to participate in the beta program)...I hope a few of you on here will sign up. I'd like to see a few people from red guides be in the beta.

It would be really cool to get a few of us into the beta...I'm just hoping...

When do you think it is going into beta? With a prospective release date of no sooner than March 31, 2011, aren't betas generally only a few months before the full release?

I believe they are still in "Friends and Family" Alpha. I have seen some 'testing' throughout their trailers, but I've heard nothing of any beta starting. I hope it is soon, and I really hope I get an early invite. Still haven't decided what class I plan on playing...

I hit up the beta for this last weekend and it's, IMO, not a wow-killer, but the first true rival.
Made my pre-order and I'll be playing in 11 days. =)

my friend is in beta. he say it's not bad. lots of group content, tho in trailers we saw mostly solo gameplay.

all the chit-chat and videos are annoying tho. He say that for 2 hour playtime he watched dialogues and videos for 30 mins :p

Here is my take on SWTOR as a beta player.

SWTOR = WoW in space. If you like WoW and you like Star Wars, this will be a dream come true

I find the decision system annoying, having to answer 1,2,3 to ever stupid mini quest of go here collect this or kill 4 of these. Main story line sure, but mini quests its just stupid. This is subject to change before launch, I filled out many feedback forms over this.

The game itself plays very well, and the main story line is quite good. The thing that blew me away was the opening cinematic, they were incredible.

The only problem is, I hate WoW. I hate quest hubs, and I will probably get sucked into this damn game from RL Friends. My friend is in beta too and loves it, he said that he creamed his pants when he first got his lightsaber. In his eyes, SWTOR can do no wrong, and will probably be there for life. In mine, Its something that I will probably play, but easily leave to go to Guild Wars 2. Overall, I'm completely under-whelmed by the game, and think its way over-hyped. That being said, It will have huge mainstream appeal, and I think will be one of the biggest MMOs of all time. I just don't think it will be my cup of tea, hell I play Everquest 1 still...

I was an absolutely huge Star Wars fan before the prequels but they utterly ruined it for me. I can't get excited about anything Star Wars now and I can't even easily watch the originals because that cocksucker won't release them unaltered in a modern format. :(

I was looking into this game, it looks shiny. That's the problem, these games are so focused on how the game looks and it lacks in actual content. One of the things that honestly kept me into EverQuest was the game play system and the difficulty of the game. I have a feeling this game might just be a bust, and it's rather disappointing because I was looking forward to this release more than any game in the past. Rather upsetting.

Kinda how I feel about it after playing beta. I jump right in and am able to literally go out and kill without reading anything or even configure my keys. It played just like WoW, and the producer was even quoted saying "If any MMO maker strays too far from Blizzards proven formula of success they are being foolish" or something to that effect. Sure enough, they didn't stray at all from WoW formula, and all they did was add story on top of a WoW setup.

That's unfortunate. In my opinion, it's all about diversity in MMO's, anymore companies are afraid to go out on the branch and try something different. I played Vanguard for a while, and people cried that it was too difficult, and they wanted everything to be solo difficulty, and they didn't want a PvP system. A lot of people don't like negative experience, a lot of people don't like corpse runs, and I know sure as hell, people don't enjoy camping something for hours. That is what made some games rewarding, not everything is for everyone.

I have found that unfortunately, I will never find another MMO that isn't quite like World of Warcraft that is successful. I've accepted that EverQuest was a one of a kind, that even the devs for EQ2 fucked that up. Overall, I'm just tired of buying a lame ass game, that these developers "think" will be awesome, and having it flop. How about taking in to consideration that if they want to have a good game, build it off of a solid core with new mechanics and take away that vanilla WoW look, it's pitiful. I'm done ranting, everyone has said all of this before, I just for once, need to voice it. I'm so frustrated -- haha

I'm no fanboi, but I would bet my lunch money that SWTOR will be very big in the long-run. They've done an incredible job on this game. If you're not going to play it, then why care? Well, I can tell you that a true competitor to WoW will force Blizzard to bring Titan out sooner than planned. It will also force re-looks at how to keep old players in WoW, not just rake in new players like they've been doing for the last several years.

I also believe it will force SoE into a true downward spiral. They're intent on making micro purchases their cash cow across all genres, while spending very little time on true content, comparatively. That works in Japan, but the U.S. just isn't ready for it.

I really believe the best you have to hope for lies in SWTOR for the next 1-2 years, before Titan is announced.

I think it's pretty much happening now. I've been reading about the changes to EQ2 for the move to F2P + the new xpac and the devs just completely shit the bed. Their F2P mechanics are utter shit and no one is going to pay $7.50 or whatever the fuck to unlock a new class or race everytime they make an alt. It's pretty sad too because all they had to do was look at DDO or LOTRO to see how to do it right and they didn't. The "expansion" is like $40 for no new content, one new class, and it doesn't include previous expansions lol.

I preordered this game yesterday hopefully it doesn't let me down! I need a spark again, I am just getting bored with mmo's these days. Rift was confusing to me with over 1000 abilitys and souls and shit.

God i remember I used to think that way about EQ, thinking EQ is one of a kind, it's rewarding etc. I ended that thinking in 2006. Everquest now is horrible. No CRs, no open raid zones, no guild wars, it's not the same game at all. I mean I don't know if anyone else knows this but even on the progression servers blade of carnage has a different graphic then what it used to be. Wtf happened there! God I was pissed I loved the boc wep graphic, now it looks like some newb ass wep. /rant

Hopefully star wars or Everquest next picks me up from my mmo depression. (sorry Maskoi for the double post!)

Star Wars is fun, but it's really nothing to fawn over. I'm going to be playing it up to and including raiding at 50, but it really is, in my experience, a wow clone with Star Wars lore. Not that that's a bad thing... it's just more "meh", in that it's going to be fun to run the gauntlet with Star Wars storylines and raids, but just like Everquest after PoP and WoW after Burning Crusade (for me, anyways), it's likely to lose its' luster once it becomes more about keeping the hamster wheel turning than it is about story, plot development, and truly making a game, not a product. I say enjoy the ride while it lasts.

My only hope, at this point, is that Blizzard's Titan will be incredible and they'll be willing to keep out the hamster wheels for a few years.

hows the grouping in star wars?... I mean what the best 3 man crew for the Empire team. I myself am thinking of the bounty hunter merc. But what other 2 Class's are needed? and What role is the Bounty hunter in a group? is it a Tank or DPS?

Inquiring minds want to know...

The holy trinity still exists in SWTOR (Healer, Tank, DPS) and they followed WoWs model for specing your character. So most chacters are able to be Tank/DPS or Healer/DPS, etc... Bounty hunters i believe are Tank/DPS.

Well, not exactly. Basically once you are level 10 you're set in a role with a few exceptions. The base classes split off into advanced at this point, akin more to EQ2 and once they split off they are defined. You cannot respec from DPS Jedi into Tank Jedi. You can only change your points in the trees alotted.

The healer classes are the biggest issue. For some reason the healers all have 1 tree healing and 2 trees DPS/CC.

The tanks mostly have 2 trees survival/avoidance/mitigation 1 tree dps. So its not like people are going to be playing DPS Juggernauts like warriors in WoW.

The DPS have specialist trees. But are dps, the sentinal/maurader isnt going to be main tanking the 16 man raids as a reasonable alternative from my experience. At best they may offtank if the real tanks are dead but would be more akin to a ranger tanking in EQ than a SK/Pally.

hmm so it looks like a Sith Inquisitor/Sorcerer is the healer combo

then maybe Sith Warrior/Juggernaut for tank

and a Bounty Hunter/Mercenary for DPS

Or would the Bounty hunter/Powertech make the better Tank? and use the Sith Warrior/Marauder as dps?

I just got in today. But I am loving it! Its just like a movie. Vary well done.
Some parts are kinda hard because of all the Lag. But still not as bad as the old days playing EQ.

So far a 10 out of 10 for me :)

I'm playing it and am completely blown away by how good of a job Bioware has done. I had my reservations, but they've all been put to rest. Say what you will about the "WoW model" (Which is actually the EQ Model) MMO, but Bioware has made the best one of the bunch. So much fun.

anyone know of a boting program? trade skills leveling arent bad... but it would be even better if i could do them wile i sleep :)

I'm playing on Ajunta Pal, RP-PVP server, if anyone wants to check it out. Got a small guild of close friends atm, but we could use strong players. PM me if interested.

I just canceled my SWTOR subscription and went back to EQ. anyways I was sith assassin on Helm of Graush... vVv gaming.

I'm on Anchorhead, not a bad server. Played a sniper up to 35 and then quit to try the assassin. I'm about to hit 40 on my assassin, enjoying the game though.

I'm not sure if they are running any kind of anti hack engine or if this would trigger anything but if you took the time to set it up you could simply use autoit to repeat the strokes. I have used it for quite a few games.

Hi guys,
