SonyOnline.net Domain Expires, Shenanigans Ensue for all SOE Games, Forums, Websites

We are in the process of researching this issue, but it looks like the domain registration for the domain SonyOnline.net expired this morning, reverting back to being the property of NetworkSolutions. While SOE did not use the domain publicly, preferring SOE.com, the aforementioned domain contains all of the nameservers (ns2.sonyonline.net, ns4.sonyonline.net, ns6.sonyonline.net) which route users to SOE's websites and forums, as well as connecting to its games.

For the last 20 minutes or so, we have been monitoring the situation. We've seen the forums and websites briefly become accessible before going dark again. It's possible that conflicting DNS information is propagating out there, preventing users from reliably connecting to SOE's websites, forums, and games.

It seems plausible that the expiration notices from NetworkSolutions have been going to an unread e-mail address at SOE for the last few weeks and NS finally decided to reclaim this one. The expiration for SonyOnline.net was set for 26-may-2014, while today, July 15th, is some 7 weeks later. That's some grace period!

UPDATE: Although there don't seem to have been any changes behind the scenes, SOE.com, EverQuest2.com, and other SOE websites all seem to be loading "domain parked" pages full of advertisements now.

All info Found Here

If you know the ip address of the servers. you can hardcode the domain to IP addresses on your PC. On Windows 7 and 8 the location on my PC is here. C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. The file you can add the entry's too is the Host file. The Host file has the instructions on how to add the entries.

UPDATE: As of about 6:05am PDT, NetworkSolutions.com is reporting Sony Online Entertainment owns SonyOnline.net again. SOE websites and games should start resolving properly for all customers around the world over the next few minutes/hours.
To refresh your DNS info, go to the Start menu, choose "Run…". Type ipconfig /flushdns. Now relaunch your web browser and/or game launchpads.

Please go to

Rich (BB code):
%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\

and delete any changes you made then

To refresh your DNS info, go to the Start menu, choose "Run…". Type ipconfig /flushdns. Now relaunch your web browser and/or game launchpads.

There must be a domain missing from the above list. Try pinging the lp.soe.com and see if it returns the 64.37.171.24 ip address. if you get that address, then your host file is setup correctly and returning the IP address listed in the file. When I ping lp.soe.com from my system without any of the changes made to my host files I am getting 208.91.197.132.

When I ping lp.soe.com I get 64.37.171.24 but the request times out. It's not pinging I guess. (Also networking is NOT my thing so I'm a little slow.)

Well this shows that you have the host file setup correctly, but that doesn't mean the Host List posted above is correct.

Will have to check other sources for the correct list of FQD's and IP's.

That shows that your Host file is not being used. That's what I get when I ping from my machine and I have NOT added anything to my Hosts file. Make sure your Hosts file has NO extension

Anything else I can try to get this to work? I've changed all my host files that I could find. I've rebooted. Rebooted the router. Flushed DNS. Released/renewed. When I ping I get
2014-07-15 10_28_55-C__Windows_system32_cmd.exe.jpg

If I go to Soe.com in my browser, I'm still going to the domain park page. My hosts file has no extension at the end and just for the record, here is the entire thing:

What a bunch of tards over there at SoE. Have they not heard of the term Auto-Renew. . . . whats a .Net run these days 14.99 a year?? Lol push it out for the max 10 years and call it good and then let it auto-renew. Most companies like Godaddy will contact your bank and get a current card if they have an old one on file. . . All I can say is Wow.

from my machine at home, I am connected to EQ in trader mode this is what I get when I ping the Domains:

Does anyone know the ip addresses for everquest servers?

Still not working for me. However, I can get to all the EQ websites from my phone on LTE network. :\

When I ping from my phone, it seems to show the same IP addresses in my host on my computer.

adding 64.37.171.44 everquest.com to host makes my Everquest.com work, but i still cant get into everquest login...

It could take up to 48 hours for DNS to resolve across the internet, trying to locate Ip address for servers.

Changing your Preferred DNS server to one of the following.
64.37.175.11
64.37.129.11
64.37.132.11 ( all of these are Sony DNS servers be careful)

Then your secondary to google 8.8.8.8

Will allow you to connect. FYI!

You will need to go to network and sharing center, then into change adapter settings, then right click on network card, choose properties, then go to Internet Protocol version 4 and click properties again, then click Use The following DNS server addresses: and type in the two i have listed about and hit ok.

You should be able to log in.

If you don't want to use SOE DNS servers you can now use Googles and it is working correctly.

Switch it to 8.8.8.8 for primary and secondary 8.8.4.4

I use Googles normally.

It really shows how little staff they have left, that someone is not checking the domains or the person who was hired to take care of the network did not check this at all. I would have looked in the first week and put it on my calendar with reminders set for 1 month, 1 week, 3 days, 2 days, 1 day, and OMG WTF are you doing pay the $10 before you get fired 1/2 a day mark.

and OMG WTF are you doing pay the $10 before you get fired 1/2 a day mark.

HAHAHA!! We have a web development business and I'm so glad I'm not in charge of renewing the domain names for our customers. SOE probably paid for 10 years of that domain name and never imagined that EQ would be around this long. :)
