Whether Live survives or not, we are committed to keeping this community going. We are already working on bringing CWTN plugins to the EMU scene with some upgrades tailored to EMU. We'll be shifting from "hard-coded" logic to an "Addclicky" style system. This allows you to pick spells, AAs, and discs, and set their order for downtime, combat, or burns. This is essential for the custom mechanics found on EMU servers as Sic and I couldn't possibly go to every server and do custom mechanics for each one. We are shifting INI structures to allow the same character name across different servers as we expect it will be much more common for players to be on multiple servers on the same class with the same name.
I wanted to say I really appreciate you and Sic staying committed to building these for Emu. This has been a huge item on my wishlist, and I am looking forward to seeing this develop over time. Appreciate what you all do for the community, thank you!

Not sure why people think MQ would work on Legends when it comes out. Look who is making and you will understand.

I felt the same way with EMU but once I tried it I never went back to live. Once you see the creative aspects of the custom servers it will blow you away live didn’t do the same thing.

Yeah, i also wouldn't trust it from them. Secrets helped develop a truebox bypass, took money for it, then snitched to DBG about how to detect it a ~year later (around the same time she entered the deal with DBG for Quarm.

This is a true statement. Watch the company you keep or TLPs you play. If you sleep with stray dogs your bound to get fleas.....

I just wanted to let everyone know that the plugin purchases have been disabled for the majority of the day because for some reason people were overlooking the banner for this conversation and continuing to purchase them, once I was notified how to disable the purchase of them, it was done. These were disabled to prevent you from spending money on things that you may not realize you don't want to buy right now. I realize the irony in me posting this to the discussion where people aren't reading the discussion to be in the know on the current events. But all the same I wanted to make it known that they are disabled - however people with currently active licenses will be able to continue to download the plugins. Once we have a better idea of what it looks like going forward they will be re-enabled, be it for emu or live - whatever the result.

I'm optimistic about the entire situation as well! I think it's far from over even without certainty. I understand the MQ devs position and appreciate all of what they've contributed. But in any event I feel the same way as burd and a few others. No refunds necessary on anything regardless of outcome. Would prefer you keep the money from me personally. Yours and Sic's automation is excellent, I can tell how much of your soul you have put into these ever since I've been using them and watching them evolve. You've been more than kind and generous for such time and excellence put into these plugins/software. They've helped me conquer many projects and continue to do so and I consider the price more than fair. You guys are super solid, as well as the rest of the community. We'll see how it turns out and cheers to what's to come either way! 🍻 🍻

I went scorched earth on the last ban wave that hit me. I cancelled and went free to play on live servers. I can still log in and manually box. I could still use ISBoxer if i wanted to. I just dislike doing things without MQ and since the expacs are so lack luster and cookie cutter lately it isn't a big loss to not grind out the end game time after time.

MQ isn't going away. Plus, we all hate the cat and mouse ban waves on Live. To me this is a good thing. And I think we should all rally behind this change and support EMU development. I would love to see an EMU server push towards ROF era content... Maybe even get an MQ friendly server IP instead of using EQEMU. This community will still remain active as there are just too many resources available here. Plus, we can talk openly and freely about the game without fear of reciprocity from "official" sources. I implore everyone to try EMU and dive into an MQ friendly server.

Let's stir things up.

Honestly, it'll probably be like it was heavily limited on Truebox, where only a few people had access to MQ and they were especially good with coding and would not let it get out to the masses. Seems somewhat similar, either way, there is a protected class that will never get banned, and the fact that Secrets had his hand in developing a truebox bypass is something I am familiar with. I never used it, and I never used MQ on any truebox server, because I didn't know how at the time; but also because I actually do like being on an even playing field with people. Seems crazy to see 30-40+boxers running automation on TLP and they never get touched, usually just a few people. Follow the money, as they say

Hopefully I'm proven wrong. I really wish we would have gotten a bit more notice on this, and had replacement(s) to take over the development. I miss EQMule.

Greatful for the time I had.. kinda super pissed I just send loads on plugins that arnt going to do anything anymore but its ok the weight this will throw into DBG will hurt lol but yall won't see me on emus... Thanks to the MQ team for all you have done. Prayers to keep going on live/test. Love yall you have kept me sain for awhile now... time to do.... idk back to Warzone I guess lol. Until next time.

If a hobby becomes a non-paid job it's time to stop.

Thank you for all your efforts, TLP with MQ has been the last time I had fun in official EQ.

I'm not going to play EQ after this. I have a guild and friends on live, MQ made this game not so tedious. I'm disappointed we were only given a two week notice. I just bought 6 CWTN plugins and paid a year sub to Redguides. I thought our money was used to pay for moderators time, I was duped.

You never know, new people might turn up to take over. Years ago I wanted to do it but the community was kinda closed and not as open as the latest devs, so I ended up in eqemu development, doing some packet RE and fixing a few bugs in the server code.

These days I don't have the time, but others might.

This has got to be connected to EQL and the folks at Game Jawn somehow. Timing is too sus.
Call me crazy, or a conspiracy theorist, but I think there is more that we are not being told. This is unbelievable. NOTHING would stop MQ from being updated in the past, even if it took a few days, it still got done. It's unfortunate that they would abandon us without finding someone to replace the current team. I'm not interested in playing emulators, and I haven't bothered with one in years. Everyone has their own playstyle. Once you get used to MQ it's hard to go back, but it is possible.

The real fear I have is that it seems like they care more about things like "EQ Legends" and their politics, instead of fixing the actual game. Daybreak is getting worse, and worse.

There's a reason why so many of the good devs like Prathun, Absor, and many more have left. Part of it is time, yes, but I don't think we're headed in a good direction, and honestly, it's probably for the best this game gets acquired by someone else. But it probably will never happen, they'll just milk it until people start leaving.

Extremely disappointed in Daybreak, and also the fact that we're being told that MQ will no longer receive updates to live. That is shocking, but either way I'll find something else to do. I might continue to play, but I feel like the game is heading to its grave based on the last 2 announcements alone.

Sad news indeed. I just came back again to play eq. Life changes have left me with more time and nostalgia kicked in. I wish you guys the best in your
new venture. I personally like official servers in all of my games. I don't do emulators at all. I want the real game.
So I guess I will catch you guys maybe another day, another life. Enjoy whatever you do, life is too short to not get the most out of it.

Absor retired. The dude is 61 and spent over 20 years working on this game. His degree was in creative writing, and he struggled to keep up with everything. He was also one of the biggest enemies to macroquest, publicly claiming multiple times that if he could press a button to ban everyone using it he would.

Prathun is in his mid 40s and could never escape allegations of trading sexual favors for power increases in EQ. He was a very talented eq dev regardless. Holly tapped him to follow her to blizzard, as is pretty normal in leadership transfers to try bringing your best people.

Working on EQ is a horrible experience. During expansion crunch time you'll work all day and night to get it rolled out. The pay is awful. You get a decent bonus at expansion launch, which forces them to launch it before year's end even though they're half baked a lot of time.

I think some of the main frustration is that most of us who use these products have multiple accounts and pay for RedGuides packets and yearly subs etc. I'm not saying we are just rich, but we choose to spend our money on this and with Macroquest being free it would have been nice before they got to the breaking point to post a required subscription for a monthly fee then use that to hire some coders to do the work. I can't speak for everyone, but I believe most of us would gladly pay an additional $9.99/ month for Macroquest...

I have a question about the class plug-ins going forward. Since yall will be more emu focused, will there be separate plug-ins for live and emu? If live does continue to get updated like it has normally, will the plug-ins work like they do today, or will they be completely different?

we have already posted all we have to post.

but yes - if live continues, then hell yeah carry on
for emu chat already said we have plans on making them flexible for the servers that have vastly customized experience.

When I played on Live I was squarely in the 'EMU Sucks! Its old and missing content!' camp. Then my cleric perished in a banwave and I gave it a chance. #neverforget

Project Lazarus is definitely not the EMU I was expecting. I will bet that its not the EMU you all imagine as well.

There's genuinely minimal jank and random bugs, for me it runs smoother than live and zone times are near instant. Most of the technical issues people face are due to poor optimization (there's a guide for that). The Lazarus discord is the place to go for support. When you encounter something wonky, open a ticket and its handled.

Yeah the era is OoW-DoN but there's so much custom stuff to do that it feels like a new take on my favorite game. Remember when GMs were active, ran events and community gatherings, randomly showed up and interacted with you? When was the last time that happened on live? It happens all the time on Lazarus. Active GMs who love the community and make it fun. I believe this is peak EQ that recreates the magic from my youth.

The socialization was pleasantly surprising. The guild I belong to on Lazarus supports your journey from early days all the way to uber level end game. When you are ready, you join a split of other people who also box their own group, and you become your own autonomous raid force tackling content at your own pace. Its the most fun I've had with EQ period. No more hiding in the shadows, no more sweating when my MQ is showing. No more jumping through stupid hoops so the white knights on live don't report me. Just pure EQ enjoyment with my raid split homies. Have a MQ question? Ask it in ooc, you'll get lots of help and suggestions. There are very very few dbags on Lazarus, the community kinda drives them out on its own.

Don't be too quick to shit on EMU because 'its old'. Its not entirely the truth.

If Lazarus vanished into a black hole tomorrow, I'd give EQMight a try. Algar has always said great things about that server too.

It sucks this 3rd party feature is getting such negative attention from the game makers. I really think the time has come for them to lean in and adopt a more welcoming stance. I hoped they would eventually allow the QoL type features MQ provides for character interaction with the game and improve the ability to box multiple characters, while making a hard redline stance against fully automated play, active hacking to improve a characters abilities above what is intended, reduce an NPC's ability outside of what is intended (ex. super strong characters that 1 shot bosses and never die, making a raid boss hit for 1 dmg, warping, etc.), etc. Who knows, maybe this is an opportunity for EQ to roll the best parts of MQ into their in-game client. I mean hell, MQ is better QA tested then most of the patches/content they roll out these days.

The decision of the base MQ coders is theirs to make, as i understand it, they don't get directly paid/compensated for their time doing their work outside of donations here and there.

As for the paid add-on item CWTN / Grind / etc., I have been back and forth on the "best" way to handle this news, and I can see both sides.

If i paid yesterday for a full year sub, because i enjoyed the product and wanted to show support by pre-buying 12 months, its a big kick in the teeth that the program is no longer working as it was intended/advertised as. However, the makers of the add-on plug-ins rely on work done by others.

The best analogy I could come up with: If you buy a car today, and learn tomorrow that your local government is no longer supporting the roads from the highway to your house because they are too run down, only the people on your block use those connection roads, cost too much to maintain and repair, and once every month the exit ramp has to be rebuilt/reconnected - its not really the fault of the car dealer who sold you a car. Your car still works, but now you need to go off roading to get there (the EMU support aspect of it).

However, if I was a recent customer who just bought a long sub, and while I agree with my analogy that it may not necessarily be apt to expect a pro-rated refund because of something the seller doesn't control, it still doesn't feel like the "right way to handle the situation", since what you bought is now effectively useless.

I guess time will tell if this changes and someone steps up to keep MQ going, or the folks over at EQ decide to take a different stance regarding MQ use.

A more apt analogy is comparing RG to cable TV. Lets say you paid for cable TV that gives you access to 40 channels, but you primarily pay for it to get access to your favorite 3 channels, X, Y and Z. Is is your cable provider's fault if X, Y and Z suddenly close up shop? No, of course not. It sucks, but its the difference between paying for the platform and paying for the content. By being a RG subscriber, you are paying for the platform that gives you convenient access to content created by others. You aren't paying for the content. It's not Facebook's fault your Aunt Petunia died and you can no longer get her daily cute cat picture updates. It's not Spotify's fault that your favorite artist threw a hissy fit and pulled all their content from streaming.

I think I get what you're trying to say and don't think this was intentional, but I would fully disagree with analogizing this to the MQ devs throwing a hissy fit.

I've been digging in the trenches of a disassembled eqgame.exe, reading old forums, and trying to build helper scripts (with meh help from ai...). We'll see how it goes whenever the test patch comes around and i start digging around in the unknown lol

👀 Currently looking at the MQ Repos 👀

I want to give BIG thanks to all the Devs that have given their time, stress, and hitting of head on keyboards, in getting what we love to work.

I bet this decision is painful to them, and I am sure it was not a decision that is taken lightly.

I for one will be more then happy to help out, where I can, to see this community thrive.

Everyone should cancel everything and respond to the email you get asking you to fill out a survey. If they lose enough business, maybe they'll finally give the okay to have mq-approved servers where the patches aren't made intentionally hard to do. I know it's not what Sic wanted in the past, but to me it would be great. I re-open all 12 of my accounts quick, fast, and in a hurry.

Again, never gonna happen. Darkpaw is run by loopy artists with no business sense whatsoever and they hate you more than they like employment. There is a 0% chance Darkpaw ever reaches out to MQ devs, who they hate, for anything.

Tried 6 boxing with isboxer today.. god it was an awful awful experience. If live MQ shuts down it's gonna be all over for me..

I have utilized ISBoxer, and it does take a bit of time to get used to it, but it is not as nice as MQ.

It could, and have seen it become successful, but it will take time to setup to ones liking.

hang on for a couple of weeks, it sounds like there is some hope.

and at the very least, there are a lot of folks who are taking this opportunity to try

I wasn't saying MQ devs are throwing a hissy fit. I was saying music artists throw hissy fits. I highly respect the MQ devs and while the choice they made is unfortunate for me, they have my sincere gratitude for all the time they spent on keeping it going until now.

Sad news all around - tho there was 1 surprising "uplifting moment" for me, @Sic new profile pic - nice cock Sic!!
Tho i'm hoping the best for everyone and our beloved MQ <3
