Problem - ranger using bow...

how are you guys dealing with rangers using their bow? I'm having issues with my ranger sticking to the mob when i engage (he'll still stay in ranged range, but he runs up to about /stick 40ish range) and then if my enchanter or druid pulls aggro and the mob moves, the ranger is now too close to use his bow.....also if I'm moving around to a camp or just on the move killing and my group is on /chase or /afol, the ranger will be too close on engage and doesnt back up to shoot. It's getting frustrating constantly babysitting him to make sure he's shooting his bow...i thought rangers were set it and forget it pew pew machines, lol.

Anyone have solutions/workarounds that are automatic so i don't have to think about it?

If he is too close to the target while you're moving your box team you could make him follow someone whose following the tank. It'll be a bit more of a pita on windy turns and corners but he'll have the distance to auto fire at all times then while moving.

If you are running kissassist, you must set you rangers .ini to:

AutoFireOn=1

Make sure he is like 10 ft away so he can pew pew. Also, make sure his bow is equipped and not your melee weapons or he wont shoot.

As far as /afollow or /stick, you have to manually move him to ranged/bow distance or he will be too close to bow. Hope this helps.

i have autofireon=1 set...
the problem isnt that he won't use his bow. the problem is say i pull a mob into camp, the ranger will assist tank, will move closer to the mob (not close enough that he can't ranged attack, but still moves out of his spot to get closer) now if i have multiple mobs on 1 pull and the adds kinda scatter around to attack bards/enchanter/healer, my ranger will usuallly be too close to those when tank calls assist on them, and he doesnt readjust his distance and he just sits there with the spam msg that i'm too close to ranged attack. If I then back my ranger up say 200ft or something so he can ranged, he will STILL restick to the target...move to about 40 ft and then start shooting his bow again. He will not stay in a spot and pew pew.

have your ranger (or one of your other snarers) cast snare first thing before anything else, this helps the mob not move so fast into the "is too close to use a ranged weapon" area when your druid or chanter pulls aggro before your tank gets aggro again. Also, adding punt into your rangers spell line up could help perhaps... i find using ranger melee dps is just an easier way to go though.

yea, unfortunately the melee dps is no where near the archery with all the AAs currently on TLP...even without headshot being factored in.

edit* either way i think i figured it out....at some point my mq2melee.ini for my ranger duplicated the stickcmd i had set and put the new one at the very bottom, so i didn't notice it down there
