What is a profession you always wished you pursued, but never did?

I wanted to be an actor (believe it or not if you see my sig with my current profession). But, I ultimately decided it wouldn't be very fulfilling for me for many different reasons. The main one was the competition is complete BS, as I had several friends already knee deep in it (older friends) when I considered it at the tail end of high school who I watched getting their life sucked out of them during their pursuits for almost no money, and no real promise of a bright future. All of them, are now working in professions they hate because acting didn't "pan out", and they needed to do something or end up on the street due to lack of funds.

In the end, I am happy where I ended up....Thank goodness for that.

Physical therapist… dropped out of college my sophomore year when my grades began to suffer in 2001… EverQuest may have had something to do with this!!

But I’m fine where I’m at. Will never be rich but have two beautiful children and daddy working 60 hours a week is a good reminder to them that they can either make money with their brain or their backs and I picked the latter.. /whine off lol

Master Distiller. The process of turning grains/fruit into alcohol fascinates me. I do some backyard brewing/distilling as a hobby, but to really learn from some of the best in the field and be able to put my own twist on a recipe....

I had one of those lives you had to be there to believie. That's all I'll say. It was Forrest Gumpish. Now It's quiet. I get up every morning Say "It's time to make the doughnuts" and log into Everquest. That is all the excitement I want. The one job if I'm being totally honest Is probably adult film producer. That's being honest. I think I've done everything else.

Video game designer was the childhood dream, but ended up pursuing a career in Cyber Security after many years of layoffs from outsourcing in basic IT jobs.

My dream job was something with computers, went to school for network administrator degree. Quit after a year and a half. Went on to become a law enforcement officer. 14 years later, I've had enough and want to do computers again. Got accepted into a program paying for my training and certs to learn/pass the A+, Network+ and security A. We finish August 31st, and my security+ test is on the 22nd.

Fighter pilot, just thought it was so cool. Decided to go into law enforcement. Getting into the military is easy, becoming a pilot seemed so impossible.... I also am now afraid to fly so there is that.

My goal profession is retirement. Trying to pursue it in the early 40s but people have too many expectations.

I'm happy being a business owner and being selective of clients that I bring on.

Complicated question. Early on (12 YO) I was hooked on computers when introduced to a Commodore Pet in school. Knew what I wanted to be from then on and had a great 30 year career working with software and hardware for medical devices. Knowing that my work helped others and, as corny as it sounds may have saved lives, I have no real regrets.

But 30 years on, with the advantage of hindsight, I would have picked a path with more personal growth and real personal interactions. I'm not even sure what that would be. I just know I didn't do it, and it bothers me some days.

I have my kegs in the garage waiting for me to get around to turning them into stills. Definitely a hobby I want to get into.

I know police get a bit of a bad rap in america but here in Scotland its not as bad (or at least wasnt when i was young). Most of my family were in the police so thats what i wanted to do - until i discovered beer and women - then it all changed.

Still time for me to consider it if i ever felt the need, but i feel nowadays its such a thankless profession i dont know if i could

Architect, anesthesiologist, attorney. The one I spent the most time pursuing was being a sports and entertainment lawyer with the goal of being a sports agent. I'm definitely glad I didn't chase that dragon, though, because it's incredibly cutthroat and even though the top folks make ridiculous money, there's basically no room for a family in that lifestyle. I'd rather have time with my wife and kiddos; a nice, easy WFH gig; and EQ to keep me entertained when work is slow, which is most of the time haha.

I don't recommend it. 11 years in and I tell people to avoid it.

I'm the 64 yo son of an LAPD Sergeant.. I couldn't recommend avoiding it more!

That said, I really enjoyed being a drug dealer and porn star. Who you say? Haha, you'll have to figure that one out on your own :-)

How many falconers out there are playing EQ? My wife has never been interested in playing, but my owl hangs out with me when I play. I'll have to post a picture.

Ok, not quite a profession for me, but a serious life pursuit!

It's a fun hobby. Being able to get lit off of your own creation is a definite plus lol. I just wish I paid more attention in chemistry class. Good thing the girlfriend was a highschool physics/chemistry teacher :)
