Does anyone have link to that official notice from a developer they changed pick zone based on the zone mob population? I'm trying to find that post and can't seem to find it, maybe I imagined that post.

The went through so many changes on /pickzone I kinda lost track of all the changes.

NM. found it. Should have done a better search.

Awesome aspire2008! I was not very active when these changes happened and have been wondering myself how this works.

Thank you for the link.

Hmm on a similar note, is it 10% of the base population of the zone? Like EoK zones have 500ish mobs, so 50 for a new pick. Sebilis had like 300 mobs so 30ish for a pick. Anyone know if that's true?

I dont know about you (i only read the first post too) but i dont see it saying anything about Mob density mattering just player density.

Also i pop my own pickzones every day and I always go by how many players I bring. Most zones are 20 - 30; outdoor zones usually being 30

Says
The number of players needed to trigger a new load balanced zone is relative to the amount of combatable population in that zone.
, i.e. not counting ground spawns, merchant npcs, objects in the zone etc. So yes mob density sorta, minus stuff you wouldn't get exp off like the stuff I mentioned.

I missed that when reading it, obviously =P

But I don't understand how it works at all if that's what they're doing.

Cobalt Scar takes 30 players to pop a new pick and it doesn't have that many mobs - Acrylia Caverns arguably has more mobs and takes 20 players to pop a pick.

I remember being able to pop a pickzone in The Hole with 20 people too, The Hole has a FUCK TON of mobs so I would say that's the lowest you can pop a pickzone with - Plane of Hate I remember being 25 or 30... Which is an extremely dense zone as well.

Then there are zones on live like Combine Dredge which is incredibly dense where 27 doesn't pop a pickzone (maybe pick technology doesnt work on TDS zones yet, im not sure)

I thought it was done based on indoor outdoor as it makes more sense. And it's the only pattern I have found to calculating how many people it takes to pop a pick

Edit: I also remember trying to pop a pick in Ocean of Tears and I couldn't get it to pop with 40 back in Kunark

That change was recent, so I wouldn't go by what you did before that change to pop a new pick. Also, you can do /who npc to get a total count of npc's, but that won't exclude merchant npc's that are not aggro, or even quest ones that are not aggroable or able to be casted on.

Is there a complete list of zones that are /pickzone-able? Perhaps those of you with the knowledge could list them?

My assumption would be anything that can be picked on TLP plus eok.
