Question - Pet only engages if my melee is on

I've used KA quite a bit molo, and some with my wizzy on KA and me playing normal or in manual mode. I finally have some toons lvl'd enough to grp with us and have a few questions. I've got a lot to learn so please bear with me.

1: My pet doesn't seem to engage unless I have my melee on, and enter melee. How do I get it to engage even if I am not in melee?

2: I usually am on a mount for the mana regen. If I have melee on, and engage, I over shoot the mob, then over shoot it again, and again, then it's dead, I missed melee, and then turn it off. Is there a way for it (I'm guessing moveutils) to compensate for mount movement? Do ppl just dismount if they are gonna melee?

3: Sometimes my shm buffs while the puller is out of range pulling. I know of Mob, Me, Melee, MA settings for targets of buffs, is there a Puller setting and would the shm wait until in range if I used it?

Also, I noticed when my puller in en-route to a mob and gets jumped along the way, he will pull it back to camp but his target remains what he was after in the first place and so never engages the one he brought back to camp. If there are adds, the puller can have a mob targeted that the tank isn't killing (for whatever reason - maybe added while pulling) and again he doesn't engage since he has AssistAt=99 and the mob he pulled is at 100%. He just stands there until the tank kills the add. There was a reason I have it 99 but can't remember right now...

My warrior tank is doing everything it should so not posting ini.

- - - Updated - - -

But godalmighty is it a sight to see! KA rox (thx Maskoi!). I was watching it one time, and the path back to camp (had pull set to 900) re-popped and that little monk musta brought back 8 mobs. I was laughing my ass off watching them try to clear camp. I'm new to boxing more than 1 extra toon but there is no way I coulda ISBoxed my way outa that, but they survived. I picked out a spot LB to my SHM and DB to the mnk and war so I could learn how to do this in relative safety (could turn on the J5 merc if needed etc). I don't know how you guys ISbox 6 toons, and if I am to believe it, you are doing it manually? Anyway, most fun I've had in years...

The Pet is controlled in the DPs/Melee sub when in assist mode. This is by design.

You can play with the StickHow setting to try and change his behavior. The /stick command is used with the StickHow setting to stick to the mob.

3: Sometimes my shm buffs while the puller is out of range pulling. I know of Mob, Me, Melee, MA settings for targets of buffs, is there a Puller setting and would the shm wait until in range if I used it?

The shaman will gradually buff the puller. It is a timing issue when the shaman checks who needs what buff and the puller taking off to get another mob. There is only a setting for having the puller pause if your chain pulling.

Most of the time this is an issue when the puller is not assisting the correct MA. The puller normally drops the current target and assists the MA. Make sure your puller has your MA targeted when starting KA.

Yeah I've definitely had a few of those moments when you think you're dead but then you remember KA doesn't have any feelings and will fight until the death. Some how you survive even though you gave up as soon as that giant pull was aggro'd. It's good stuff lol

As far as your problems, a few things I can think of...

If you're in AFK mode I'm not sure how to fix your puller staying targeted on a mob you're not killing. But if you see it happening, KA has a command /switch which will switch the target to assist on. So when your puller is stuck on a mob that your group isn't killing, do /switch on the puller and he will refocus on the current mob being killed.

For the shaman pet, I would try turning melee off, so MeleeOn=0. Unless you want the shaman to be meleeing then I'm not sure everything else in the ini looks fine to me

Thx guys! Ok so by design the pet will only attack if I melee... interesting, I could manually send the pet in, maybe I could add an event to KA, or a holy to click the attack button on pet window when MA engages mob... will have to think about that.

Regarding the mount, I tried using walk instead of run, it seemed to help but for all I know that is placebo effect. I will have to test whether or not walk affects mounts...

I do like meleeing since it doesn't detract from my spell casting duties, it's free DPS, and my weapon procs a group heal like crazy. Yes I know I will out-grow the idea by the very nature of how tough higher lvl mobs are but for right now it works.

I tried the various stick cmds that I could find, some work beter than others, but over shooting was still a problem even if diminished.

I saw the /switch cmd from searches and thought that was a possible cure, but like ctaylor mentioned above, I think I had the wrong toon targeted when launching KA. Later in the night it was no longer an issue as I had restarted KA but I wasn't sure exactly what I had done to resolve it...

I came back from an extended break (AFK) and noticed the monk was FD'd. I thought it was odd since I had not set up anything in KA, nor MQ2Melee. It was on my list to get to... A intarweb search revealed that moveutils could do it. Kinda confusing when there are so many places an specific skill/spell/ability can be manipulated from/by, especially if there is no indication/msg. More research is required...

Thx again guys! Even with the snafu's it's fun as hell. One time I turned the TV off, grabbed a beer, and just watched my bot army kill stuff lol.

For pet, there are a couple of "patch" fixes you could try.
1) Check to make sure in KA ini
Rich (BB code):
PetCombatOn=1
Your ini shows it is, but never hurts to verify.
Your
Rich (BB code):
DPSOn=1
change to
Rich (BB code):
DpsOn=2
There have been issues with this in the past so it might be worth a try (if fixes it please report so it can be looked into).

2)Check your pet assist commands from MQ2Melee. KA is supposed to override them but it never hurts to make sure they are on. Info on MQ2Melee can be found here: http://www.redguides.com/community/showthread.php/24780-MQ2Melee
Secifically these commands:
petassist=[on|off]
Will send pet attack on engage and backoff on enrage/infuriate if those options are enabled. The plugin will also use /pet hold if you have that AA.
petdelay=[0-30]
Will not engage pet until [x] seconds has passed.
petmend=[0-100]
Cast "Mend Companion" or "Replenish Companion" if pet is at or below given health % (will cast higher of the two if you have both).
petrange=[0-150]
Will not engage pet until mob is within [x] range of your pet.
There was/is also a petengageat=[0-100] which is for what mob hp% you want the pet to assist as (0 is off).
If not sure how to find/adjust these, the easiest would be in to type the following commands in-game:
Rich (BB code):
/melee petassist=1
/melee petengagehps=98
/melee petmend=20
/melee petrange=75
(Those are the settings I use) Then when those are all entered the command
Rich (BB code):
/melee save
Once that is all done try it and see what happends (reporting results would be helpful).

3)If your pet is still not engaging, you could always add a downshit:
Rich (BB code):
downflag1=1
downshit1=/if (${Me.CombatState.Equal[COMBAT]} && ${Target.PctHPs}<98) /pet attack
This will also go into your MQ2Melee ini file in the MQ2Melee section.
This file would/should be located in your MQ2 folder (release folder). It will be servername_toonname.ini

Good luck, and please report your results/findings.

The mount ping pong:
I have tried to deal with this issue myself as well. Swithing the run/walk doesn't help as KA/MQ2 will override and change it as it deems fit.
A slow mount used to work ok, but now that all your mounts move as fast as your fastest that got borked.

I suggest if you're gunna melee, no mount. If you insist on using a mount, get mobs to be pulled almost on-top of the mounted toon. The shorter the distance, the less "bounce"

Thx Maistro!

The mq2melee settings were not in this particular toon's ini file. I had only 'forced' certain settings on my monk before. So, I /melee saved and checked again. Sure enough, petassist was 0. So I set it 1, /melee save, /melee load and voila, pet now attacks. I turned me own melee off to prove pet would be sent in and it worked. This is huge for me. My pet is free DPS and did not want it tied to my melee.

I knew I was Banestiking so I knew I was engaging, as such, was afraid to set DPS=2. I have only had to use that before when I had my wizzy with us and things were not living long enough for him to (um, I dunno, do what KA is doing behind the scenes?), setting that to 2 forced him to nuke right thru his DPS list regardless of lag or timing. Yes it soemtimes casted on dead mobs but it was worth it, his dmg output doubled by doing so.

Yes I had noticed when I parked next to the spot my monk was gonna rest to after pulling the distance reduced and the ping-pong reduced as well. I will play more with it...

Thx again!

I had never played with letting KA send in the merc before but since I had to camp my war-tank (was running it on another PC that had a 2nd toon doing something else and the PC simply could not handle the load) I decided to give it a try. Once I had it on assist, unchecked auto-assist, voila KA sent in the merc. That's a nice bonus to all this futzin around.

Speaking of 2nd PC not handling it, I think some of the strangest stuff was lag related. I once saw my tank run across half the zone to engage the mob the puller was bringing. It only happened once, and camp size at that time was set to 30 *shrug*. I wont dbl up on that PC again...

- - - Updated - - -

Another thing I noticed was the monk was ignoring closer mobs... a little research led me to MaxZRange, which I had set low. This was a hilly region so it explains why he was ignoring mobs. Set it to 100 and he pulled better.

Now, one thing that really torques me is when I want to move camp. I have had terrible luck using camphere, moveutils make camp, turning returntocamp off etc and nothing works well. I have had to resort to ending all toon's macs and retarting at the new location. If I turn returntocamp off, the puller will engage the mob where he pulled it from. I wish there was a way to completely and fully reset the basic camp functionality in KA, which is quite good, to a new location. This really is one of my first priorities to solve, I just hadn't listed it above.

Another time, there was a corpse left in camp, I guess Ninja hadn't got to it yet, and my shm kept targeting it not engaging the mob the monk pulled. Maybe it was an add, but regardless the monk had to solo it since my toon triggered my own engagement as well as the merc tank. Seems to me if I have to use a setting to exclude corpses in all my code why shouldn't KA haha?

- - - Updated - - -

Note: Someone, somewhere in the grp, has to assist at 100! I have too many times seen everyone standing there waiting for the HP to trigger their engagement.

- - - Updated - - -

Rich (BB code):
[Melee]
AssistAt=100
MeleeOn=0

AssistAt, while residing under [Melee] is a misnomer. It should reside at the top of the KA ini as a stand-alone flag. I finally figured out it is NOT attached to melee at all! It is the HP your toon will engage, even if MeleeOn=0. Woulda saved me days of frustration knowing that. yes I read the manual, studied it, dissected it, tested it, and that simply wasn't clear, alluded to, but not spelled out. Ima update the wiki!
