Tip - NOS - Mean Streets

Cut off the Head - The video on eqresources I half copied and finally got it.

This is pure luck based if you are 1 tanking it like I did.

Basically at the start (using an SK) run up to the fake Jak's and single dot them and FD. Use your Mage to COH back to the bridge. This way it leaves the Thugs. Invis back up and repeat!
When you have two fake Jak's left up (I always had both Jak's right on top of each other but once you engage the fake the real will port) get ready to COH right as it dies, invis the group up and chase down the real and engage. If the real Jak is in Spot 2 or 3 I found it easier as there was a higher chance its next port would be next to the current spot and you wouldn't have to run through a set of Thugs. (if the real Jak is in spot 4 its highly likely you won't make the run before the event restarts)

Things that helped: Turned my back to the Thugs, blocked all DS on the tank, they did go summoning mode for the last port so I FD and stood up to clear it, drop a dps(keep them in the task) and use a healer merc.

The luck comes if the ports he takes are next to each other and you don't get a train of thugs.

if you are having trouble doing the cut the head achievement, you should try to double glyph it.

1. Get mission
2. Zone in and set a campfire
3. Go to guild hall and hit the Rune Glyph on your tank and DPS glyphs on your melee if you want.
4. Sit in guild hall until the Glyph timers are up and you can hit them again. DON‘T hit them save that for when you original glyphs wears off.
5. Campfire into the mission and start.
6. Zero dps on the thugs. Set your main tank to Manual and only kill the Jak’s.
7. Run from spot to spot to get the mission done.
8. Off Tank the Thugs and win.

Cheers!

Here is a 'easy' way, which is subjective... Cut Off The Head

Get a porter.. and to be safe I am using an SSD.

I run to the first two Jaks and kill them and the poofers and succor back each time.. agro clear..

Scenario #1

If Jak is bunched up at the third location (IE the one not in the top most right corner).. you can wait and hope he jumps to the other location and bunches up..

If not, be prepared to Tank 2 thugs and Jak as you drag 1 with you to the top right corner..

When he poofs, exodus/succor , invis, and run to the next Jak..

Rinse/Repeat/Win

Scenario #2

If Double Jak at the top right, run over there, kill Fake Jak, U must Exodus.. Succor is prolly too slow..

invis, Go to real Jak... Beat him down

When he poofs.. Succor, unless you have Exodus ready..

Rinse/Repeat/Win

Wildcard:

The only tricky part is if he poofs to the top right, you may not make it in time unless you have someone hanging out up there to engage..

Note: Succor is good enough as long as it is not the 1st engagement of Jak after the third Fake Jak is killed..

No Off-Tanking, No Kiting, No Mage Summoning..

Thank you all for these tips. One of the rare real challenges in recent memory. Intense.

I'd tried the brute-force method myself a couple times initially with painful results. A dozen or more using CotH but blowing one or more of the transitions.
Would have helped to find if there's a set time interval to the porting to anticipate and handle better.

But finally pulled it off even with boss-man starting in upper-right corner and ending last port there.
  • SK, Shm, Mage, Bard, Ench - Rogue sat out in favor of Cleric Merc. As mentioned above, DPS isn't a key part.

Burned all SK defensives, but saved Deflection for final port. Rune Glyph before final transition.
Shaman died to a mistake running to final boss, but mage joined in and we burned him down.

Stupid Illusions wiped me before opening the chest though - you bet my heart was racing to recover and get the achievement.

I could never seem to get "Waste No Effort" before the real one would disengage.

Finally took my time and split out each thug and killed all the thugs before burning on the Fakes. Used snare pull and CoH to clear aggro each time. Setup way down south in the tunnel to Shadeweaver for positions A and B, then used the far NW corner of the palace for positions C and D.

Once the thugs were all dead then the Fakes melted like butter. Only need to kill the first set of fakes in 2:40, the subsequent illusions at 22% and lower don't count for this achievement. As the last Fake was dying I ran my mage over to the real Jack and engaged him immediately as the Fake one died.

It takes patience because I waited for the real Jack to warp to position A before engaging the Fakes. For a long time he just seemed to swap between B and C and I didn't want to waste time trying to avoid him during my power run.

Waste no effort is gained by doing zero damage to the real Jakarashev in the first phase of the event before killing the 3 fake Jakarashevs at each station. This is easily done by killing each station and then holding off from engaging the next station while you wait for a swap.

So start the event > Kill first station with fake Jak > once dead, do not engage next station > wait for swap > find next fake station and kill > wait for swap > kill 3rd > rush to last station (you're on a timer once fake Jak #3 dies).

Yep this is the meat of it. My favorite starting point for the real is #3, as I like to kill the real Jak in #4. So I clear 1-2 then wait for the port, clear #3 then move to #4 clear the Thugs and start DPSing Jak. Then I run a DPS toon back to 1 and wait for the Illusions to pop. I clear them 1 to 3 then move back to #1 and do it again for the second set. This keeps the real Jak from porting and makes the event easier even when not going for any cheeves.

This mission is not my favorite to farm but it is at least kind of fun as it's the only NoS mission that poses a bit of challenge.

Sweet, so last night I used this method to just do the mission for the currency and ended up getting the "No You Don't" achievement completely unexpectedly! So now I'm down to just the "Cut Off The Head" and I'll be done with the expansion and my cloak can evolve! I'd Redcent @Silverback and @Many_Whelps if I had some available this morning! :)

Awesome dude! Yeah I forgot to mention that the way I run the mission normally also gets No You Don't.

Can someone explain the strategy behind the cheeve No You Don't

"No you Don't" = "Don't let Jakarashev shift to any of his scatter illusions."

You will get an emote at 36%, 22%, 8% and he will spawn 3x illusions. One at each of his spawn points. You have to kill all of the illusions before the timer expires and he "shifts".

The easiest way to do this achivement:

1 - Mark the real JakAss with /mark so you know where he is. Can also put him on extended target.

2 - Start the script with your group on the bridge.

3 - Clear thugs from loc 1 and loc 2 by pulling them to the bridge.

4 - Kill fake JakAsses at loc 1 and loc 2 - if real is at either spot just wait for him to port.

5 - Move group to north courtyard in between loc 3 & 4.

6 - Pull thugs from both 3 & 4 - Jaks will leash.

7 - Wait until real JakAss is in loc 4 - then quickly kill fake at 3 - and move group to #4

---------------------- Now for the cheeze ----------------------

Take one member of your group - a puller - to south west corner / loc #1.

Wait here for your group to damage JakAss.

When JakAss gets to 36% illusion will spawn at loc 1 / 2 / 3. You tag each of those as you run your character back to loc 4 bring all 3x with you to your group. Kill adds.

Run your pulling back to loc #1 and repeat for adds @22% and 8%

For this i used 2 clerics shammy and a beast tanks i used 2 warriors Here is the tricky part get the thugs to the offtank kill the shades then when you have 1 real 1 fake you kill the fake to 10% rest up die succor whatever the event wont reset .... then pull all the thugs back to offtank and blast the last fake it wont regen either ... then kill boss win add whoever you want and poof head of the snake easy mode

I just started trying this one. I think it’s been updated since the last post here so not sure if any of these tactics will work.
I’ve been able to separate the fakes. Killing / bane-ing 2 sets of the thugs then working on the third set at the fake Jak. I‘ve tried pulling outside of leash area so have been able to get down to 2 Jaks.

When I get on the the real Jak I get him down to 2% and no lower. He seems to lock there. My Google-Fu hasn’t turned up anything in new to defeat the mission.
Anyone else get this?

Pretty fast win write up if you don't care about achievements;

1) Find the real before starting. Hopefully at spot 3 or 4 because it's the easiest
2) Kill/bane thugs and fakes at 1 and 2 - Watch for the switch if your DPS is not high enough to take out both before that happens. If not, make sure to kill fake and thugs at next spot
3) Pull thugs from 3 or 4 a ways away from spawn point (let fake/real Jak leash) and kill thugs
4) Repeat 3 for the last remaining Jak (fake or real)
5) You should now have one fake and one real Jak left only as all thugs are dead. Engage the fake and kill him and move immediately to the real Jak and engage him
6) Tigers and images will spawn while killing the real. Images die after a short time when attacked and tigers can be slowed to poof
7) Boss locks at 22% and two auras will then come. After the second aura, he ports to one of the other 3 spots. Follow and engage him ASAP
8) Boss locks at 7% again and step 7 repeats. Once you follow him to the last port spot, kill him.
9) Open chest and lewt

Hmmm... Yes, guess I am. But engage the real one and that aggros the last fake to to my group.

Is this were I'm screwing up?
Do zero damage to the "real" one while any of the 3 "fakes" are up. You should use the GroupMark command to identify the "real." When the 3 fakes die, the "real" one despawns and is replaced with another mob also named jakarashev. If you're watching the real one, you'll actually see it blink out of existence and respawn at the same point about a half second later. From there, you can now fight the real jakarashev and proceed with the event.

Whats the GroupMark command?

EDIT- My Google-Fu work for this. Thanks man,

Thanks for all the help guys!

As always the folks here pull through, not just with the questions asked, but with other new information to make our EQ gaming more fun. I learned not only how to get this mission done but a few other things I didn't know.

Much appreciate the guys n' gals here!

I just started trying this mission for the first time and have read through the guides written both before and after the patches as well as watched a few videos. I'm able to quickly clear the instance so that all that exists is one fake Jak and one real one. Once I'm down to the final two, I send my group at the fake Jak and kill him then quickly run over to the real one and engage. This is where I run into issues.

At around 50% on real Jak, I run my bard manually over to the first camp waiting on the illusions to spawn. As soon as they do I tag and while trying to run to next illusion the main group starts going down and I'm not sure why. I don't really have any problems keeping everyone alive any other time in the instance so I don't think its the adds.

I'm planning on swapping out a dps for a 2nd healer to stay with real jak group but am wondering if there is some other mechanic that I'm missing. Should I stop/slow dps at this point and just wait until illusions are down?

Possibly the red aura on the ground around the real? I know with the recent graphics changes that may are saying they can not see some auras.

Thanks Psy. I'll check for that as well. In one of the videos I saw, merc healers will healing through that so I didn't think I needed to worry about it. Could just be bad timing with adds/aoe hitting at the same time.

I have seen some heal through it and others struggle. Other than that, the real does not seem to do that much dmg and as long as you slow the tigers and kill the illusions of himself he spawns right next to him (not the ones at the other 3 locs), you should be gtg.

It’s the red aura. I had to move my guys out of it before they were fully geared. Later on I could just heal through it. It is another thing to deal with while killing the illusions.
