Guide - (no longer works) Legally download the RoF2 client from Steam (1 Viewer)

To play on emulators with Very Vanilla MQ, you need an older version of EverQuest. Specifically the "Rain of Fear" or "RoF2" client, which is on Steam.

EDIT: Daybreak has decided to remove the RoF2 version from Steam. If they are still hosting it somewhere let me know, otherwise I have no help for those looking for it, sorry!

Thanks Red! The download worked great. I’m hoping a fresh copy will resolve my emu issues.

second time this year. Accidentally scrubbed my emu install when doing some folder cleanup and didn't remember what depotdownloader was lol. Think I'll rename and relocate it this time.

Trying download from steam today since i had an account....really pissed my off with 3 bans accounts and 4 suspensions...stupid DBGs just do not want anymore of my money so I said fine...be that way i'll go elsewhere and be a happy botter...

Like Algar, I also recently did this and it worked without issue. Mine was 2 weeks ago. Granted it was not done today... I'll see if I can try it today.

So here's the previously seen manifests and their IDs.

That doesn't mean any of these would work. 1926608638440811669 was the RoF2 we've used. But if it's empty. It's entirely possible others are empty, and I expect the servers are expecting a specific version as well.

I checked it's closest neighbor just below it, and it also failed. So entirely possible they nuked them as part of the ongoing litigation or some such.

There’s a torrent file that I used. As legal as they come nowadays.
just to avoid any confusion past, present, or future.

RG is not willing or able to distribute eqgame.exe (etc) or provide links an somewhere else that does.

any "pm me for link / file" will be taken seriously
