Hail Norrath,

It’s been quite a year! We’ve had to adjust to working from home and learning how to put together an expansion while working remotely. I am incredibly proud of the team and what they have achieved, but the days are growing shorter, the nights are growing longer, and we are rapidly approaching that magical time of year. With that in mind, I am thrilled to announce our 27th expansion officially and show off the logo and key art!

That’s right, our 27th Expansion for EverQuest is named Claws of Veeshan and continues the tales that began in Torment of Velious. Velious is overwhelmed with writhing ice. Frozen undead swarm everywhere. The few survivors that remain throw aside old hatreds -- for now at least -- and band together to survive.
It is time for the bravest heroes of Norrath to challenge the dragons of Velious and put an end to the deadly magic that has tormented the citizens of the continent.
Rise to the challenge! Face the ancient dragons of Velious and bring them to account for their actions!

Notable Features
  • 6 Expansion Zones - Follow the chilling trail of ice into the lands dominated by the dragons of Velious. Find the source of the mysterious and restless ice and put an end to the dangers that have enveloped the entire continent.
  • New Raids, Quests, and Missions
  • New Spells, Combat Abilities, and AAs
  • New Collections
  • Dragon's Hoard - A dragon's hoard for those that have collected so many items, it is nigh impossible to contain. This is an additional space to hold all those items you may need once more but do not need now.
There is so much more to reveal over the coming weeks as we launch beta and preorders for Claws of Veeshan on October 21 between 10 AM and 12 PM (Noon) PDT. Don’t forget, If you pre-order, you will get access to Beta. I hope to see you all there!

Tech Debt and Other Projects

We were able to complete projects on multiple database migrations, upgrades, and optimizations that had become tech debt this year. In addition to the performance improvements we've been making since June, we've closed out around 150 separate bugs. In addition to that, we’ve been replacing our hardware with new and more powerful servers, and we’ve also reached a 95% reduction in world crashes since the peak of this year. While some of these projects have happened in the background, you were affected by some long downtimes on some of them while they were being solved. Thank you so much for your patience then and your continued forbearance as we improve EverQuest and continue to build stories in Norrath for years to come.

Team Darkpaw

We announced our inaugural Darkpaw Games Extra Life team TEAM DARKPAW, led by our community manager, Dreamweaver. The team has already raised over 5400 dollars and has almost 100 members! Game Day is November 7th, and it’s never too late to join and raise money for the Children's Miracle Network.

Developer Video Series

Daybreak as a company has been partnering with the San Diego County Office of Education to teach kids about careers in tech, and part of that project is our Developer Video Series. I had the pleasure of being the first one up! You can check out the video on the SDCOE Youtube channel here and stay tuned for more from our studio and other studios in the Daybreak Family.

I know that’s a lot to go over but don’t forget,

Beta and Preorder for Claws of Veeshan, October 21, 2020. I’ll see you there.

Never Give Up,

Jenn Chan, Head of Studio, Darkpaw Games

What exactly goes on in beta? I’ve never participated
You pay up front for the privilege of finding more bugs before it goes live. Used to be beta testing was free but by special invitation. While certain guilds are specially invited now days they too have to pay up front.

And usually there is a special reward if you earn enough points by doing raids and stuff. That reward is sometimes delayed or bugged.

This is a run through of TBL beta to give you an idea

If you don't have anything else going on in ToV... like you have EVERYTHING done, which many high end raiders do, then beta is the one chance you get to actually go out and figure quests, tradeskills, etc. out on your own without eqresource or fan byte walkthroughs. For a lot of people, the six-ish weeks of beta are incredibly fun. You also get to interact with devs in ways you never would in the actual game.

On the other hand, if you're like me, you have shit to do in the real game. So, other than raiding, beta is meh.

Isn't Veeshan supposed to be a Kunark dragon? Will this be a Velious expanion or a Kunark expansion?
The ground looks snowy so I would assume Velious.

Veeshan is an original old world god. It was never associated with an expansion. Also, we've known for awhile that this coming expac was Velious 3.0

Never ? People should accept they don't have the resources or sub numbers to do that anymore.
yeah i think that was the plan too.

I remember being told when daybreak got everquest before/during TBM they had purchased ~5 years nearly finished content if they split them into 2 expansions - which is why EoK/RoS was 2 expansions instead of one massive one - I have no idea if this was true, but I came back during TBM and guild told me that was the case when i said it was cool, but a rip off that TBM zone was like "here's a new zone which we're going to use twice with this mirror" - at least it WAS a new zone heh

Using old zones is smart and lets be honest at least half people never even played during these times so they're new zones to them anyway. Also the storyline fits using the same zones and not new ones.

Agreeing with this. TBH monster missions gives them an outlet for endless 'new' content. Side note...they cycled Revamped zones every month or so I would be hitting them up without year round. That is my favorite content to do.

yeah its smart on a few lvls - the zone is already there so huge saver - nostalgia for folks that have seen it before, and its new for folks who havent.

I'd like to see a couple of new zones tossed in here and there just to keep things fresh - since time has passed, and huge world changes have happened - plus it feels nice as a player to see new stuff

There were quite a few new zones with TBL. And that was 1 1/2 years, so I don’t believe they don’t have the resources.

Would love to see at least 1 or 2 new zones per expac. I will take what I can get at this point though...

TBH, that's not a good excuse for a game company. I am still paying my sub every month for my group(s).
Accept or not, that really depends on the individuals. Just like I never play on any of the TLP servers.

God Damn, I never get to keep my money for myself!
I just splurged and got ToV on my two alt accounts earlier this week and now this??? I’m getting to where I might need to buy the friends and family bundle when it comes out.

I think they are being smart with these expansions. The biggest driving force for EQ nowadays is nostalgia right? Well here they can add end game content for existing players while trying to lure back older players with old world locations with new content.
I am really hoping for some Luclin expansions next time.

you must lack any sense of what it actually cost to develop this stuff.
